Not to go to a BBQ because it’s pissing it down with rain?

Lovemusic33 · 26/08/2018 13:13

I’m invited to a BBQ this afternoon, I don’t really want to go but said I would, it is pissing it down with rain but the host hasn’t cancelled. It’s likely that most peo0e won’t turn up and she will be disappointed which is why I kind of feel I should go but I also don’t want to go out in the rain and would rather stay in my pj’s all day watching crap tv.

Would ABU to not go? I know I would Sad

Urgh I am with you OP. I think I would duck sorry.

Where will everyone sit? Gazebo or conservatory?

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/08/2018 13:16

I'd go. Chances are she will just do it in the oven anyway. She won't be bbqing in the rain.

But if you decide not to go at least x all

Gileswithachainsaw · 26/08/2018 13:16

Call

NotSuchASmugMarriedNow1 · 26/08/2018 13:16

Surely she'll just cook everything in the oven and eat indoors iif its raining? You can't not go, there'll be all that food wasted.

Thehop · 26/08/2018 13:17

Just text and say “yuck, crappy weather, enjoy a chill out day and look forward to rescheduling x”

ilovesooty · 26/08/2018 13:17

If you have accepted and the host hasn't cancelled it would be really rude not to go.

Buscake · 26/08/2018 13:17

I bbq in the rain! But wouldn’t expect guests to join me...I’d assume you’d be inside?

QueenAravisOfArchenland · 26/08/2018 13:19

I assume it'll just be a nice lunch inside with friends. You won't have to sit in the rain. Yes I think YWBU and rude to cancel just because you can't be arsed to put a brolly up between your front door and the car or whatever.

Thumbcat · 26/08/2018 13:20

I doubt she'll expect you to sit out in the rain. If you've said you'll go then you should go.

pigsDOfly · 26/08/2018 13:20

Yes I would imagine the bbq would just be transferred to inside and cooked in the oven. I very much doubt she's going to expect her guests to sit in the pouring rain.

If everyone decides not to go the host is going to be left with all the food. Seems a bit mean to just duck out.

PristineCondition · 26/08/2018 13:21

Text her and ask her if it’s still on?

PodgeBod · 26/08/2018 13:21

I'm also on route to a BBQ Grin can't not go as it's FIL birthday. Looking forward to some sausages done in the oven.

JustDanceAddict · 26/08/2018 13:21

Very rude to cancel. I once had a bbq party. Everyone came, it rained, we did it inside.
Obv you are looking at an excuse to not go though and conveniently it’s raining!

PinkHeart5914 · 26/08/2018 13:22

Yes you would be unreasonable not to go. It’s a bit of rain, your not made of sugar so you won’t melt!

Host maybe bbq the food still but you will almost certainly be eating inside.

Do friends really let each other down becuase it’s raining? Confused

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 26/08/2018 13:22

The OP says the host hasn't cancelled.

On our way to a BBQ. It’s about seeing friends not the weather

PositivelyPERF · 26/08/2018 13:24

I had @ 50 guests for a washed out barbecue so used two portable ovens and the range to cook. It was chaotic but also great fun as so many pitched in to help. Why don’t you text her and ask if there’s anything you can do to help? If she lives close to you, you could offer to hung some stuff in your oven.

PositivelyPERF · 26/08/2018 13:25

It’s a bit of rain, your not made of sugar so you won’t melt! are you from NI, by any chance. 😁

ScreamingValenta · 26/08/2018 13:27

Why don't you ask the hosts what they're planning? The sensible thing would be to move it indoors. I think it would be rude to cancel without checking. If the hosts say they're going to have it outside in the rain, you can then say you are (understandably) not keen.

LeftRightCentre · 26/08/2018 13:29

How rude! Just text and ask if it's still on and if it's gone indoors does she need you to bring anything.

AviatorShades · 26/08/2018 13:31

I've been to many an outdoor bbq which was held indoorsGrin
This is England. This is what we do!GrinGrinGrin

TheFaerieQueene · 26/08/2018 13:33

I’m off to a bbq later. It about seeing friends- the weather is incidental.

greendale17 · 26/08/2018 13:33

You fully well know you won’t be sat outside in the rain. You are just looking for a reason not to go.

Glad you are not my friend.

Dollymixture22 · 26/08/2018 13:33

You should go. She will have bought in lots of food - salads won’t keep.

It’s poor form to cancel at such short notice unless there is a good reason. It will be fun!

raviolidreaming · 26/08/2018 13:35

Absolutely this.
