Not to go to a BBQ because it’s pissing it down with rain?

I’m invited to a BBQ this afternoon, I don’t really want to go but said I would, it is pissing it down with rain but the host hasn’t cancelled. It’s likely that most peo0e won’t turn up and she will be disappointed which is why I kind of feel I should go but I also don’t want to go out in the rain and would rather stay in my pj’s all day watching crap tv.

Would ABU to not go? I know I would Sad

I'm in the USA, we bbq year round, (even when it's snowing though not where I live but friends and family in other places where they have real seasons) the grilling can still be done outside under a covered area when it's wet then the eating and socializing inside. Surely that's what your friend will do?

The only reasonable thing to do here is call and see what the plan is, just not turning up is pretty bloody off.

Snowflakes screaming glad you aren't not my friend when a simple question was asked. You don't know know this person to judge based one question. 2018 fakery everywhere. Bet you haven't got close friends to the snowflakes screaming glad you are not my friend. Good luck with whatever you do. I'm sure it will all work out whether you go or not no big deal. We aren't up for something sometimes and that's life.

It can be a bit of an effort going to BBQ etc in the rain. I've been in a similar position. No one is realistically going to expect you to stand outside in the pouring rain. I would go especially as you made a commitment and it is a friend's BBQ. You will probably enjoy it.

Fair weather friend (literally) unless you really expect her to have you all standing out in the pouring rain for the duration.

We have recently been to 2 bbqs where we sat shivering under a gazebo for hours staring longingly at the house! Fucking grim way to treat your friends

I've been to a few like this. It's not much fun to be fair.

If someone expected me to sit under a gazebo in the weather we have here I'd be saying thanks for a lovely afternoon but I have to leave.

It's absolutely pouring with rain here and so cold I'm sitting here in two jumpers and I put the heating on this morning. And I'm still cold.

Bit of a weird 'you're not a true friend if you don't want to sit on the rain' vibe going on here.

Hmm

As if the host would have made her sit in the rain all day. Get real.

We had a bbq today with guests and family. It (the meat) was cooked in the oven and we sat indoors watching the rain. We still had a great time and a laugh.
We seem to have had a lot of indoor bbq s over the years. Just our luck to chose today, which here, at least, is the first really wet day of the summer.

I've had people not turn up at the last minute before and think it's really rude - it cam be quite a lot of effort and money to cater for a lot of people. We have bbqd in the rain (not expected guests to go outside)

Sounds lovely summer rain put some beuna vista social club on and make some elote and tacos and definitely something refreshing to drink with pineapple.
