To think that a political party *trigger warning* (Title edited by MNHQ)

AIBU to think that if a political party:

Has its divisional registered address at a house which is a crime scene.

And that crime is the torture and rape of a 10-year old child, for which the perpetrator received a 22-year jail sentence.

And that living with this paedophile was a member of the party who was running for the post of Deputy Leader of the Party.

And that party member allowed the paedophile (their father) to nominate them for roles in the Party and employed him as their election agent after he had been arrested for raping and torturing the child (something which election candidate cannot possibly have been unaware of).

And that both the candidate and their father (respectively transgender and cross-dressing) had been campaigning through the Party for the loosening of safeguarding of children in schools and organisations like the Girl Guides. A campaign which the Party has been very supportive of, even turning a blind eye to the candidate’s doxxing of women.

That:

a) there might be some tiny mention of this Party’s failings in the press?

b) this candidate is probably not ideally suited to being Deputy Leader of the Party?

c) the Party might have done slightly better than this in wording its statement:

What's your problem with the statement? They've said that his actions are abhorrent and they want nothing more to do with him.

AngeloMysterioso · 25/08/2018 23:55

I knew instantly which case/person you’re referring to- I’ll not mention any names as that’s probably the fastest way to get this thread zapped but fwiw I completely agree. I googled the candidate’s name earlier today and there’s nothing referring to this case anywhere in their search results, which seems a bit suspicious. I do have to wonder though if the candidate themselves has been subjected to some level of abuse which may explain (though not excuse) some of their behaviour.
I do think the party should make some sort of statement acknowledging the case and the candidate’s link and at least station their position on it. It’s as though they’re just hoping nobody notices the connection.

AngeloMysterioso · 25/08/2018 23:56

This is what happens when you don’t read the OP properly. Blush

NameChangedAgain18 · 25/08/2018 23:59

First of all, the statement is minimising. It refers vaguely to “gender-based” violence. WTF that supposed to mean? This was torture and rape of a child. Secondly, they are standing by their deputy leadership candidate, despite the fact that she failed to disclose that the Party’s Coventry HQ was the site of a paedophile’s torture den, and that her election agent and nominee was charged with these crimes.

OP posts:
AngeloMysterioso · 26/08/2018 00:03

Actually their inclusion of “gender-based violence” pisses me off. A ten year old girl was subjected to the most horrific abuse imaginable, her “gender” had less than fuck all to do with it, and they still had to stick that in there.

Mrbatmun · 26/08/2018 00:05

What's your problem with the statement?

Well apart from anything else, the party claims to know nothing about this until Challenor was sentenced the other day? That is either bullshit, or AC didn't inform the party that she was living in the house in which these crimes (allegedly at the time took place with the man who (allegedly at the time) carried them out. And used that man as their election agent for the Green party in May of this year. So either the Green Party are lying about not knowing, or they should be kicking AC out right now.

Also 'gender-based violence'? Pffft, what does that even mean?

bingbongnoise · 26/08/2018 00:08

TWIGGER warning? Confused

PickAChew · 26/08/2018 00:12

Ah, OK, I hadn't seen anything about the case (so yes, media coverage clearly extremely lacking) so had no idea about the specific timings etc.

NameChangedAgain18 · 26/08/2018 00:12

Trigger obviously. So sorry for pressing the wrong button and thank for for pointing out the error of my ways. I hope you weren’t triggered by my terrible spelling.

They have condemned his actions and said "There is no place for this abhorrent criminal behaviour in the Green Party."

The statement is blunt whilst trying to keep the privacy of one of their members who is guilty of no crime.

Beelin · 26/08/2018 00:30

The not guilty person is a politician. Not just a politician but an Equality Spokesperson. Whose campaign was sponsored by a man who was being investigated for the rape and torture of a child at the time of said campaign. All very well for the Greens to distance themselves now. Why the fuck didn't they distance themselves five months ago? And if they honestly didn't know about it, why the fuck not?

Zofloramummy · 26/08/2018 00:33

I have only been made aware of this because of mumsnet. I am shocked and appalled that this man was able to hold a prominent position within the fourth largest political party in this country whilst awaiting trial for heinous crimes.

I am also shocked and appalled that a family member who must have been aware of this not only employed him but failed to inform the GP of his (at the time) alleged crimes.

But I think the GP’s insipid press release just takes the biscuit. They are supporting AC? They respect her right to privacy? She knowingly withheld information from them and yet it appears the main aim of the statement is to show support to her. Even the sentence at the end could be interpreted as support for AC and her family.

They have completely fucked up in my eyes. Disgraceful and outrageous. I fear that as a society we are becoming numbed to paedophilia and when a major political party behaves like this? Well maybe I’m right.

PowerPlayed · 26/08/2018 00:41

A politician isn't entitled to privacy when they actively promoted the rapist for roles within the party, lived with them and apparently didn't disclose that this was happening whilst the rapist was charged and awaiting trial.

PowerPlayed · 26/08/2018 00:42

Referring to "gender based violence" is a fucking insult. A ten year old girl was raped and tortured.

Beelin · 26/08/2018 00:48

Exactly, PowerPlayed. This is something that it is absolutely in the public interest to investigate, not to ask for privacy about.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/08/2018 01:12

How the fuck did the Green Party not know that an election agent for the General Election in 2017 and local election in May 2018 had been arrested and charged with serious child sexual abuse?Shock Surely they would have known as soon as he was charged?Confused Why did they allow him to continue in such an active role for so long?Confused

There is no way they could know nothing until the verdict.Hmm

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/08/2018 01:17

And why has it taken the Green Party so fucking long to comment in such a mealy mouthed shitty way? He was convicted 3 days ago!Shock

Beelin · 26/08/2018 01:37

The Times are now reporting the link. Once again, thank goodness for Gilligan.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/08/2018 01:57

I think Aimee Challenor should take some time to address the damage done by her father. If she doesn't take it voluntarily, then the Green Party should insist. Aimee is quite young(?) and seems to have been a child when this happened. What she needs right now is to be protected.

Saying that though, this case kind of shows that the Green Party isn't really on the ball when it comes to safeguarding.AngryHmm

Mamaryllis · 26/08/2018 02:14

Presumably the injunction granting five days media ban linking AC and DC is now lifted. Thankfully, as someone with IT skills, links to Anonymous and hacking, and the architect of a twitter blocklist targeting women, AC will have had some time to tidy up the worldwide web.
The Green Party should be suspending AC until it is clear that they have no concerns about AC’s failure to disclose that the official address was a crime scene of a reprehensible nature, or the choice of a man charged with child abuse crimes as an election agent. The GP also needs to be extremely certain that DC’s fetish for cross-dressing as a 5 year old named Lucy has not influenced any equality policies, particularly given that the convicted cross-dresser designed material around their trans policies on behalf of the party.
If the Green Party want to be seen as a real political party, they have to act like one.

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/08/2018 02:34

Looks like his wife(?) Tina stood in the May 2018 as a Green party representative for Binley and Willenhall in the council elections www.google.com/amp/s/www.coventrytelegraph.net/news/coventry-news/election-explainer-what-voting-could-14573430.amp Shock

There's no way she didn't know her husband was facing these charges! She testified in his trial.Shock Seriously, how the fuck are the Green Party denying knowledge of this?Angry

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/08/2018 08:23

Sorry for the cluster posts. Wine had been taken.Blush

OddBoots · 26/08/2018 08:27

At the absolute minimum Aimee Challenor should be investigated for not making the Green Party aware of the situation.

There is absolutely no way the Greens should have been oblivious until sentencing - that is either a massive failure or a cover up, both of which call for a serious investigation.

NameChangedAgain18 · 26/08/2018 08:35

It's possible that the TERFblocker software which AC and her father developed to block gender critical women on Twitter could have done useful double duty in muting anyone trying to draw the GP's attention to the court case and DC's alleged crimes. Again, the GP has serious questions to answer about why it has allowed a prominent spokesperson in their party to aggressively silence women, to doxx them and to try to ruin their careers for pointing out the threat which self-id poses to safeguarding.
