To think that a political party *trigger warning* (Title edited by MNHQ)

AIBU to think that if a political party:

Has its divisional registered address at a house which is a crime scene.

And that crime is the torture and rape of a 10-year old child, for which the perpetrator received a 22-year jail sentence.

And that living with this paedophile was a member of the party who was running for the post of Deputy Leader of the Party.

And that party member allowed the paedophile (their father) to nominate them for roles in the Party and employed him as their election agent after he had been arrested for raping and torturing the child (something which election candidate cannot possibly have been unaware of).

And that both the candidate and their father (respectively transgender and cross-dressing) had been campaigning through the Party for the loosening of safeguarding of children in schools and organisations like the Girl Guides. A campaign which the Party has been very supportive of, even turning a blind eye to the candidate’s doxxing of women.

That:

a) there might be some tiny mention of this Party’s failings in the press?

b) this candidate is probably not ideally suited to being Deputy Leader of the Party?

c) the Party might have done slightly better than this in wording its statement:

My complaint to the bbc just got submitted.

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 16:02

The article in The Guardian was a hugely sympathetic puff piece which omitted crucial facts and tried to paint Challenor junior as the victim.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/08/2018 16:05

Do complaints ever get listened to? Is the poor victims name still up there on the twittersphere?

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 16:10

I have just complained using the BBC online complaints form.

AsAProfessionalFekko · 27/08/2018 16:15

I suspect you will get a cut and paste response (saying nothing).

Xenia · 27/08/2018 16:31

I agree that the Guardian article was not great - rehash of the AC press release.

Would someone better than I am a wiki edit this page which still has AC as candidate? and do it in an entirely objective fair way please. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Green_Party_of_England_and_Wales_leadership_election,_2018

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 16:36

It's been done. Shame that the Notes section at the bottom cannot be edited to show that Challoner Senior is a convicted paedophile and animal abuser.

paintedwingsandgiantrings · 27/08/2018 18:26

I complained to the BBC just now.

The party is urgently reviewing its disclosure and safeguarding policies and procedures and will learn from any lessons that process reveals.
If I could give a bit of advice to the Green Party on how to avoid a repeat cluster fuck, don't give "just about" adults lots of power and responsibilities. Especially not ones who, on paper look like a 1st year psychology case study.Hmm They lack the experience and maturity and in AC's case are too easily manipulated by their depraved rapist father.

CityFarmer · 27/08/2018 20:14

There's no respectable parties.
I read this news last week on daily mail, no mention of link to the green party :O Green party response was shit. Their candidate acted shitty if they didnt inform party of the arrest and charge, minimally shows complete lack of judgement to hold a political post.

I've voted Green before and won't again.

We need new parties to be formed, trash the rest.

My only sympathy lies with the girl this happened to. I hope she finds peace

TerfsUp · 27/08/2018 20:19

will learn from any lessons that process reveals

Will learn from ANY lessons?! Good grief. The Greens are even stupider than I thought they were.

One can only hope that the Greens do the honourable thing (they won't, of course, but I like to amuse myself) and shut down the party with immediate effect saying "We fucked up. No excuses."

BraveAndStunning · 27/08/2018 21:48

Yes, good advice from you Dione

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/08/2018 11:21

The BBC are reporting this. At last. www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-coventry-warwickshire-45328860

DioneTheDiabolist · 28/08/2018 11:23

Thank you Brave. You are truly brave and stunning and very intelligent.Grin

kesstrel · 28/08/2018 13:00

The BBC are only reporting it as a "Coventry and Warwickshire" issue, despite Aimee's national role in the Green Party. Hmm And her role as an adviser to Stonewall.

MetalMidget · 28/08/2018 13:28

I wonder if the BBC reporter wanted to say more - it's interesting how they have that her father was her election agent in 2017, she only found out 'recently' about the full extent of his crimes, followed by the police statement that he was charged in 2016...

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 28/08/2018 19:38

Good to see Jonathan Bartley is still sticking his fingers in his ears, tweeting away merrily and posting photos of his younger self and reminiscing fondly. Good to see when the going gets tough the tough...OH look over there that fluffy cloud looks like a kitten! Hmm

Could you imagine him sitting in on a COBRA meeting

This, by Coventry Pride, is really tricky for Aimee Challenor. She was a trustee at the time (Nov 2016) when the trustees were "made aware of criminal proceedings being taken against [her father]" and banned him. But she still used him as her agent in 2017 and 2018 elections.

Good work Andrew Gilligan
