To think that a political party *trigger warning* (Title edited by MNHQ)

AIBU to think that if a political party:

Has its divisional registered address at a house which is a crime scene.

And that crime is the torture and rape of a 10-year old child, for which the perpetrator received a 22-year jail sentence.

And that living with this paedophile was a member of the party who was running for the post of Deputy Leader of the Party.

And that party member allowed the paedophile (their father) to nominate them for roles in the Party and employed him as their election agent after he had been arrested for raping and torturing the child (something which election candidate cannot possibly have been unaware of).

And that both the candidate and their father (respectively transgender and cross-dressing) had been campaigning through the Party for the loosening of safeguarding of children in schools and organisations like the Girl Guides. A campaign which the Party has been very supportive of, even turning a blind eye to the candidate’s doxxing of women.

That:

a) there might be some tiny mention of this Party’s failings in the press?

b) this candidate is probably not ideally suited to being Deputy Leader of the Party?

c) the Party might have done slightly better than this in wording its statement:

This is awful, why is it not being reported more widely?

Saucery · 26/08/2018 17:30

Aimee does not mention children. The rape and torture of a child. So, a lot more ‘coming to terms’ needed before Aimee can stop minimising the offences.

"I was advised externally to use his legal name in official documents (which I did) and his nickname - the name he is known by in the community - on public materials."

Why would anyone ever use a nickname on materials? It seems very hard to believe someone would be advised to do that.

Why was it thought wise to appoint someone who had been arrested in that role? Lots of unanswered questions.

My twins are 19. They are lovely, mature, one has a university role but they and most other 19 year olds should not be deputy or leader of a national political party. It is far too young. You need real experience in the world of work I would say for at least 10 years first.

TerfsUp · 26/08/2018 17:36

What are Challoner Junior's qualifications for being (or would have been) deputy party leader other than being trans?

OlennasWimple · 26/08/2018 17:48

The only reason I can think of to use a nickname on public material is if someone is very well known by that name and not their actual name

Like George Osborne is actually called Gideon. Keith Vaz is actually called Nigel. Boris Johnson is actually called Alexander. Zac Goldsmith is actually called Frank. Vince Cable is actually called John. Paddy Ashdown is actually called Jeremy.

Ie if someone is using their supporters to gain credibility, it would only work if the names used were recognisable,

I have no idea whether DC was better known locally as Baloo, or why he was seen as a fine upstanding member of the community given that he had a track record that would normally disbar most members of the public from political involvement at a reasonably high level

Though this saga does remind me just how amateur the GP are - they aren't remotely equipped for government, they are a tin pot, two bit party run from kitchen tables

BonfiresOfInsanity · 26/08/2018 18:08

The Times article had 32 comments (many very detailed and lengthy but making excellent points) when I read it this morning. Why have these been deleted?

I had heard nothing about this until I read Maryz’s thread this morning and subsequently the thread on FWR. Why is this not headline news? I find it suspicious in the extreme.

Mamaryllis · 26/08/2018 18:16

Does anyone have any direct links to Aimee influencing girl guides policy? I’ve seen Aimee’s ‘best of 2017’ that crows about them accepting males, but am sure Aimee claimed to have been advising at some point?

DioneTheDiabolist · 26/08/2018 18:20

I agree Xenia, 18/19/20 is way too young for a national party leadership position. This is from Aimee's statement:
I cannot be held responsible for the actions of my father. I am not to blame for his behavior. Yes, he was my election agent. This was one of a number of ways I was seeking to reconcile my relationship with my father after coming out of care. On reflection, I can understand that it was unacceptable for me to appoint my dad as my election agent when he had been arrested. I can now understand the potential risks of that decision. For that I am sorry.
A responsible adult/political party should never have allowed this to take place. Not only was the risk to the party immense the risk to a vulnerable young person trying to build a relationship with an abusive parent is huge as well.

The more I read, the more I am sickened by the Green Party's conduct here. And their disgusting statement is offensive in the extreme to DC'so 10yo victim and her family.

Subtlecheese · 26/08/2018 18:24

I am local to the town, this raises some serious alarm. The lack of major news coverage gives it a very sinister edge.

thatwouldbeanecumenicalmatter · 26/08/2018 19:15

@Subtlecheese in regards to media coverage it seems there has been a 5 day injunction (although I agree there’s definitely something going on with the BBC keeping schtum) Although people on twitter have been noticing that there’s been careful editing out of Aimee Challenor in any press stories that link them with David Challenor (their father) within the last few days. For example a story in a Coventry local paper/website - an innocuous story from 2017 (iirc) about how Aimee and David had witnessed a car accident that yesterday was amended to not include Aimee in it at all. Why, and who the fuck has gone to the effort to change such a tiny detail in a minor local news story over a year later - it makes no sense if you take it at face value. Someone on twitter had the forethought to screenshot the story before it was amended thankfully but highlights the Orwellian nature of all of this editing and tidying up of the internet within the last few days concerning anything that links Aimee Challenor to their dad David Challenor.

I’d love to know who’s funding the injunction and who exactly are behind all this whitewashing going on and how they have the clout to do this.

Dottierichardson · 26/08/2018 19:25

Maybe the GP are just good at keeping things under wraps, they have also been implicated in anti-Semitism, more than one prominent member but unlike the Labour Party have hardly been challenged on it.
According to Twitter DC the convicted rapist also had a hand in proposing policy at GP official forums but not clear what those policies were. I don't like muck-racking in general, but if other parties have to be accountable for their actions then so should the Greens.

OlennasWimple · 26/08/2018 19:32

Not sure that the Green Party are competent at much TBH. They're just so much more minor than the Labour PArty that the stuff they do is not generally newsworthy (or only in a "let's laugh at the beardy lentil weavers" type way)

Carrrotsandcauliflower · 26/08/2018 19:40

It should be illegal to alter news articles already published, for the sake of history and public record.

NorthernLurker · 26/08/2018 19:49

Ffs, employing anybody after they have been arrested on charges like this would be appalling but employing your father as an election agent is truly staggering.

POPholditdown · 26/08/2018 19:55

I’m wondering if there’s some type of super injunction protecting Aimee, otherwise dailymail would be all over it

I’m almost certain I saw an article about this a couple of nights ago on DM (right at the top, too!) but there was no mention of the political links in the title. I couldn’t bring myself to read the full article so it may well have been mentioned later on, but it’s a pretty big fact to be left out of the title IMO.

I’ve been on there today after seeing all of these threads and can’t find it again, or any similar articles I may have confused it with.

I’ve also googled the Green Party, and looked under the news tab and there’s only one vaguely titled link about this.

I don’t think this would be ignored so much if it wasn’t related to who it is.

Also, it’s been mentioned loads on these threads but - ‘gender based violence’ are you fucking kidding me.

lowtide · 26/08/2018 20:28

The DM article is still there but there is no mention of the Green Party or of Aimee
Same with the sun.
And I don’t think either of those papers would hold back to protect the Green parry

POPholditdown · 26/08/2018 22:26

Thanks lowtide atleast I know it wasn’t imagined.

I wonder why they’ve failed to mention it.

Mamaryllis · 26/08/2018 22:30

I think someone is paying attention finally.

lowtide · 26/08/2018 22:33

Amazing isn’t it. If There hadn’t had been that article in the times and a load of stuff on twitter and here. They would have just pretended it never happened. That’s what’s scary

KimKatCourtney · 26/08/2018 22:35

Too little too late. I have voted both labour and green in the past and I will never again vote for either.
Why can’t there be a party that adequately represents women

MnerXX · 26/08/2018 23:37

Women’s equality party were such a disappointment! I spoiled my last ballot paper - first time ever Sad

picklemepopcorn · 27/08/2018 07:00

It isn't coming up in news apps, either. So most people who read news online won't see it. It only comes up if you search for it.

Xenia · 27/08/2018 14:07

It is in the Guardian today.
www.theguardian.com/politics/2018/aug/27/greens-rising-star-quits-deputy-leader-race-after-father-jailed-for

I couldn't find it in the Telegraph but may just have missed it although I did see this www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2018/08/26/womens-minister-cautious-number-teenagers-undergoing-gender/ unrelated.

The Times as we know had it earlier - yesterday.

lowtide · 27/08/2018 14:10

Independent have it too. Can I suggest that everyone makes a complaint to the bbc about this. It takes a few minutes.
If this was any other political party there arse would be all over the beeb by now.
