To do a ouija board on my own?

LucyDontLockIt · 23/08/2018 13:11

Got another threat going but wanted to ask a quick question.

I want to a ouija board to determine whether anything is haunting my house. I'm a non spiritual person, non religious, don't really believe in the supernatural but I'm being tested at the minute.

I've been to some of the most supposedly haunted places on Earth (Poveglia anyone?! Look it up) and felt nothing. So I'm not easily convinced but something isn't right. Nobody will talk to me about it and nobody believes me. I'm tempted to just do a ouija board on my own. If nothing happens, I'll tell myself I was imagining everything else.

AIBU to consider doing this??

Crikey no! Don't do it!

headinhands · 28/08/2018 19:28

Thehop · 28/08/2018 19:32

Please don’t

MalloryLaurel · 28/08/2018 19:33

Watch The Exorcist, or Veronica, What Lies Beneath, Annabelle, The Conjuring 2,( although that film is crap,)
It's a bad idea. I don't think it will tell you anything. I don't know anyone who had a good learning experience from them.

MalloryLaurel · 28/08/2018 19:42

Lemony, I can't find it. I did read one about someone seeing a black shadow shaped like a man in the dining room and the dh was getting cross because he couldn't see it.

SwordToFlamethrower · 28/08/2018 19:48

DOOOOO EEEEETTT
and come back here to report!

headinhands · 28/08/2018 20:05

I don't know anyone who had a good learning experience from them

People with good mental health will be fine. People who are inclined to paranoia and poor critical thinking skills probably won't find the experience beneficial. Same with Monopoly!!

standbyyourmammaryglands · 28/08/2018 20:08

headsin no way! Shock

headinhands my first instinct was annoyance at your comment but I know from experience you are right. I have been unfortunate to attract something to me at a time when I was so down that literally the only way was out or up,

Stephen Speilberg could not recreate my experience and if my daughter had not been with me I would have thought I had gone mad.

To all of you who ridicule those of us who are aware of other entities, think yourselves lucky but stop ridiculing what you know nothing of.

OP once I got over the fear I just sat quietly and prayed. It left and never returned, well, not to me but I have since moved house. I am very careful of my mental state and try to remain positive in all circumstances. I hope you get this sorted amicably.

headinhands · 28/08/2018 21:44

To all of you who ridicule those of us who are aware of other entities, think yourselves lucky but stop ridiculing what you know nothing of.

I used to be a Christian and speak in tongues and all that jazz. I know what it's like to think that there are other entities.

But there is no evidence for the Holy Spirit and now see what what I thought was incontrovertible evidence is explained by human psychology along with all the other thousands and millions of other entities people claim to be true.

If you're inclined to poor mental health believing in other entities can really screw with you. Most people who believe in them find it comforting but for a certain percentage it goes beyond harmless make-believe to very harmful beliefs about themselves, others and the world.

Therefore I will challenge these belief, not from ignorance, fear or any inclination to ridicule, but out of concern for my fellow human and make no apologies for yours or anyone else's annoyance at this.

Offence is taken, not given.

Rollonweekend · 28/08/2018 21:47

Just burn some sage. Much more low risk..!

Hertha · 28/08/2018 21:57

They’ve been debunked so many times (for example, if you blindfold the participants, or turn the board upside down, the ‘ghost’ suddenly starts speaking in gibberish). Best case scenario is an utter waste of your time. I know that some people are into Woo stuff but ouiji boards ffs...

Mariatequila · 28/08/2018 22:13

You could or you could do some cleansing rituals.
If you do the ouija board there are protective prayers you can do beforehand & if you have any religious jewellery I’d wear it.

edwinbear · 28/08/2018 22:19

You: Hello Victorian ghost person, are you there?
Then; No sorry, I'm not here, I've just nipped our to do a spot of keys hiding/door slamming over the road
You: Ah never mind, catch you another time

@headinhands I’ve just had to change my Tena lady 😂

headinhands · 28/08/2018 22:24

if you have any religious jewellery I’d wear it.

Ooh I've got a tonne of Madonna-esq crucifixes left over from the 80's. Would that do?

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 28/08/2018 22:28

Won’t work on your own

KarmaStar · 28/08/2018 22:55

Do not do it.speak to your local spiritual church they will help you.
Do NOT tamper with this board.

Golde · 28/08/2018 22:55

Oh gosh no please don't, I'm not going into detail but really, really dont do this.

DeadButDelicious · 28/08/2018 23:07

I am a firm atheist and sceptic, I do not believe that these boards actually 'do' anything supernatural BUT I did have a very dear friend who got himself into a right state with one, he was in a bad place and started to mess about with them and it just made things a heck of a lot worse. Leave well alone.

Tessliketrees · 28/08/2018 23:09

Are people really scared of a bit of wood?

Tessliketrees · 28/08/2018 23:11

@DeadButDelicious

I've known similar and utter fucking bollocks like Do NOT tamper with this board does not help.

Winds me up no end. I am usually just vaguely irritated by woo but the utter stupidity of grown adults becoming hysterical over a fucking chopping board with letters on it drives me mad.

hooochycoo · 28/08/2018 23:28

I have one. It belonged to my mum. I used to do it with her and my sister when we were kids. Dead relations would come say hi. It was quite pedestrian. It totally wizzed around the board. I’ve read about the ideomotor effect, but it doesn’t ring true. The thing is impossible to push, not least impossible to push on your own, let alone in collaboration with two new faces

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 28/08/2018 23:30

They work trust me. You should not piss about with one but one person, it’s not going to work

Hertha · 29/08/2018 00:11

Is it within the realms of possibility that your mum was pretending?

They work trust me

No thanks.
