To do a ouija board on my own?

LucyDontLockIt · 23/08/2018 13:11

Got another threat going but wanted to ask a quick question.

I want to a ouija board to determine whether anything is haunting my house. I'm a non spiritual person, non religious, don't really believe in the supernatural but I'm being tested at the minute.

I've been to some of the most supposedly haunted places on Earth (Poveglia anyone?! Look it up) and felt nothing. So I'm not easily convinced but something isn't right. Nobody will talk to me about it and nobody believes me. I'm tempted to just do a ouija board on my own. If nothing happens, I'll tell myself I was imagining everything else.

AIBU to consider doing this??

No way! I'd not touch one of these things. If you believe your property is haunted, call a paranormal investigation group.

headinhands · 23/08/2018 15:09

Ive never played a version of monopoly that involved asking spirits if they were there or not

So you ask the spirit if it is or isn't there?

You: Hello Victorian ghost person, are you there?
Then; No sorry, I'm not here, I've just nipped our to do a spot of keys hiding/door slamming over the road
You: Ah never mind, catch you another time.

Padparadscha · 23/08/2018 15:11

call a paranormal investigation group.

Ghostbusters or Scooby Doo and his gang?

Seriously though, don’t call these charlatans, they are nothing but scammers (see previous post about playing on people’s fears).

1happyhippie · 23/08/2018 15:39

I wouldn't op, I think all your likely to do is freak yourself out more.
I don't really believe in them, but if I was already feeling a bit on edge, the last thing I would want to do is mess around like this.

when I die, I hope no one tries contacting me through these boards, I will be to busy rattling my chains and moving your shit round the house to be bothered by this crap!

agnurse · 23/08/2018 15:46

Don't do it. There are demons out there who would LOVE to get control of your life through a board.

My husband is sensitive to spiritual things. His ex had a book of spells and he could FEEL the evil coming off it.

Don't play with dangerous toys.

Lemonysnicketts · 23/08/2018 15:47

@sendin I don’t think it was ‘a bit chilly’ - it was along the lines of ice cold and the baby going blue but I don’t want to sound dramatic as evidently half the people on this thread think they’re BS and will think that’s even more silly, but it was along those lines and frightening for all involved, even my dad stepping in as a calm presence having handled things like this before. It is fine to think it’s BS if you’ve never had a paranormal experience but if you have, you know it’s not your imagination, which is why the OP is being advised not to mess with what she doesn’t understand in case it turns out to be a lot more than a game of monopoly (which you can’t really play on your own anyway and I think ouija boards are the same).

MudCity · 23/08/2018 15:47

Don’t do it. Speak to your parish priest instead and ask them for assistance. As other posters have said there is a risk you will attract other spirits and negative energy. Not worth the risk.

MeyMary · 23/08/2018 15:49

Btw, has the OP said why s/he believes s/he's haunted?

I'm not saying that things we can't comprehend / see don't exist.

I just feel like someone might be playing a cruel trick. Or like the OP is in a bad place for a different reason.

nocoolnamesleft · 23/08/2018 15:50

If you believe in it, you could scare the living shit out of yourself. If you don't believe in it, it's a waste of time and money. So that's a no from me.

liz70 · 23/08/2018 15:51

Following my post above, I'm another who would avoid boards. Unless you know what you're doing, you risk inviting in entities capable of mischief or worse. I really wouldn't touch them.

1happyhippie · 23/08/2018 15:53

meymary the op has another thread going at the minute where she believes she has seen a ghost in her home.
She is already quite shaken by it so I don't think messing about with a ouija board is a good idea.

MeyMary · 23/08/2018 15:58

@1happyhippie

I 100% agree. Bad idea.

This thread made me happy that I grew up with rituals and customs surrounding death and my ancestors. It may just be woo but I feel like these things can be valuable for the psyche.

Just like winter festivities have a point. (Considering the dark / lack of sun may cause depression and family time may help combat that etc...)

RageAgainstTheTagine · 23/08/2018 16:21

Ah, oija board threads. The ones with wide eyed warnings of dire consequences, and trust them, they know things, as their friends brother once did one.....

Total. Bullshit. All of it.

headinhands · 23/08/2018 16:24

Unless you know what you're doing, you risk inviting in entities capable of mischief or worse

Wise words. I had the misfortune of needing to make a trip to a and e last week for a minor injury. The waiting room was chock full of people who'd been attacked and injured by spiritual entities. Awful.

SilverySurfer · 23/08/2018 16:26

I'm an atheist and don't believe in the afterlife but someone I know who was a believer and who thought they had a ghost/spirit in their house, was told to say out loud 'God bless you and god go with you'. It seemed to work - presumably because she believed, I don't know.

Not sure how an ouija would work with one person - you would have to push the glass yourself and write your own messages which seems a bit pointless.

Chocolatecoffeeaddict · 23/08/2018 16:27

Don't do it. I did one as a teen. It spelt out the name of a girl in the circle, a random date and the word danger. She was killed in a house fire 2 years later on that date.

TeaByTheSeaside · 23/08/2018 16:33

I've read your other thread, OP.

No a ouija board is not the answer.

Laiste · 23/08/2018 16:35

nocoolnamesleft - If you believe in it, you could scare the living shit out of yourself. If you don't believe in it, it's a waste of time

This is the best and least contentious advice.

We all have second (or first) hand stories about what has happened to people who've used a board. Arguing about it helps no one.

Can anyone link to OPs other thread?

Lemonysnicketts · 23/08/2018 16:57

The other thread is about seeing a ghost on camera - it's here in AIBU and gives a bit more context.

Laiste · 23/08/2018 18:22

Ah, found it lemony :)

SwarmOfCats · 23/08/2018 18:33

If you believe in this sort of stuff, you can just as easily tell whatever is or isn’t there that you’re frightened and ask it politely to leave. This could put your mind at ease a little, and you wouldn’t run the risk of freaking yourself out even more.

Laiste · 23/08/2018 19:20

Having read OPs thread about seeing the woman on cctv type camera - i would say no more to DH. He doesn't want to know. Get something you can record with and set up again. Do what ever it takes to feel safe in the house (lights on when you're alone ect) and comfort yourself with the thought that you're on the case, you'll get to the bottom of it and people don't get physically hurt by a ghost.

In the meantime no point in tearing yourself apart wondering if you're going potty. It may all be something or nothing but you're not the first to wonder about stuff like this and you wont be the last and you're not alone. In a good way i mean! Grin

Don't use a board.

Change the locks and check the loft.

Come back and tell us if you record anything.

The only dangerous board game is a family round of Monopoly at Christmas

This is so true. I was talking to someone recently whose siblings still aren't speaking to each other after a fateful game of Monopoly three years ago. Ouija spirits have nothing on me losing my rag over a game of Monopoly. I know which one scares me more.
