Form a political party:

  • stop Brexit
  • prioritise housing
  • impose at least 50% tax on all inheritance
  • impose second home taxes

And other stuff. But they should be IN CHARGE now. They need to rise up and sort things out.

I keep telling my DC but they are too busy on instagram. AIBU?

Macron was 39... Blair was 43... as was Cameron... I reckon we'd vote for someone younger if there was a credible candidate. Look how ANCIENT our leaders have become!

You talking about Harold of Norway?

Nikephorus · 21/08/2018 16:36

No one wants a gray, fat middle Aged woman in charge
We'd rather have someone younger who can't spell and is rude? No, I don't think so. I'd much rather have someone who doesn't feel the need to bleach her hair (ready for those pouting selfies so-beloved of the millennial), who puts their education to good use (and knows how to spell-check) and who doesn't feel the need to insult other people. (And she's not fat)

brownmouse · 21/08/2018 16:38

Inheritance is massively unjust. It I should clearly making fewer and fewer people richer and richer.

The NHS and social care need paying for. That would go some way to that. As well as taxing second homes more significantly (and to local authorities).

How? Well they could stage a takeover of the Labour Party I suppose. New Labour did it.

How come you've missed a generation? You've gone from baby boomers to millennials and missed generation X?

Or do 38 - 50 somethings not matter? 🤔

Theresnodisneyending · 21/08/2018 16:39

You're rather nasty, aren't you? fat, middle aged woman.

So, what you are saying is, you want someone; 1) Thin, 2) Young, 3) Male?

You think just because someone is young, they will automatically understand what the fuck is going on? You think body weight and age have something to do with the ability to run a country?

Laiste · 21/08/2018 16:39

It's just taken me 5 mins of googling to work out what generations we have in our house.

It's:
1 silent generation (1937)
2 gen X's, me and DH.
2 gen Y's (or millennials)
1 gen Z
1 gen Alpha

No help to anything much, but i was interested Grin

DieAntword · 21/08/2018 16:41

How is inheritance unjust? Unless you want to go full communist and say property itself is unjust? If I decide to give something I own to person A of course that means person B is deprived of it, but it’s mine, I can dispose of it how I like surely?

Leesa65 · 21/08/2018 16:41

Look how ANCIENT our leaders have become!

NICE. Angry

How Rude to Generation X and Baby Boomers .

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 21/08/2018 16:41

Oh and I also wouldn’t vote for any of those things.

I don’t think we should even have an inheritance tax; however you acquired your money it is your money and you should have a right to say who the entire amount goes to.

I don’t want a tax on second homes either.

Most importantly though, I’m pro-Brexit.

ThinksTwice · 21/08/2018 16:42

Lai what are generation z and alpha?

HolyPieter · 21/08/2018 16:42

Why on Earth would you trust millennials to run the country? You can't even trust them to get out of bed in the mornings.

brownmouse · 21/08/2018 16:42

THereisnodisneyending: 'Understanding what the fuck is going on' will be a pre-requisite of the job tbh.

I am fat and middle aged and NOT the Look we need to lure in voters. we definitely need someone nice to look at. It's basic marketing.

Anyone cross about being saddled with 50k of debt and never likely to own their own home (i.e. Under their own steam and without handouts from family, including inheritance) I think that is mostly gen z. If we assume most go to uni at 18 then there are only 4 years worth of millenials who had the 50k debt. I did have some inheritance to put towards my house deposit but we're talking around 3k, so without it we would have still got our house from our savings and not have had a wedding/honeymoon. Many of my friends who have slightly better jobs than us have bought without family help. Not saying buying is easy for millenials or that having 20ishk student debt is amazing, but I do think you're thinking of a different generation. Most gen z I know are nice enough people but they can't keep their eyes off their phone which is fine in their own time but drives me mad at work!

phoebemac · 21/08/2018 16:42

The boomers vote for what works for them and they are big voters. They don't want their second homes taxed or to pay higher/any taxes on their assets that they've hidden offshore perfectly legally using legal loopholes.

I think you might have meant to say:

The rich boomers vote for what works for them and they are big voters. They don't want their second homes taxed or to pay higher/any taxes on their assets that they've hidden offshore perfectly legally using legal loopholes.

Bluesmartiesarebest · 21/08/2018 16:44

How do you think anyone can possibly stop brexit? We’re leaving the EU, get over it.

A tax on second homes would mean even more of a shortage of affordable rental properties. Landlords would need to increase their rent to cover the cost of the tax.

50% inheritance tax would mean money going abroad or being put in trusts etc. Nobody with a large amount of money will want to pay the tax. IFAs will do well out of it.

Your DCs sound sensible by ignoring your political views and staying on instagram.

Triskaidekaphilia · 21/08/2018 16:44

Oh and don't get why millenials would want 50% inheritance tax when our parents are mostly baby boomers?

Blessthekids · 21/08/2018 16:45

I think you are being unreasonable. A lot of millennials are out there protesting, joining political parties and canvassing etc. How on earth do you expect to take charge when older generations vote & listen to people like Farage, Johnson, Gove and Rees-Mogg. How will they ever resist a Brexit without a second referendum which is not supported by May or Corbyn?

They cannot do it on their own and should not have to, those of us who are from older generations need to offer our support and make our voices heard too.

Theresnodisneyending · 21/08/2018 16:45

I am fat and middle aged and NOT the Look we need to lure in voters. we definitely need someone nice to look at. It's basic marketing

Are you actually, honestly serious?? Grin

You are basically suggesting that "young people" are too stupid to vote based on competence. You are saying that they should vote based on looks. "Understanding what is going on" TAKES YEARS OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE. Which kind of cancels out most "young people". Ffs.

Applepudding2018 · 21/08/2018 16:46

Agree with @DieAntword why is inheritance unjust? If my parents who grew up working class have worked hard and saved all their lives why should this money not go direct to their descendants? (Assuming it doesn't all go in care fees .....)

LorelaiVictoriaGilmore · 21/08/2018 16:48

I'm a millennial who will probably be inheriting a significant sum of money, owns her own home and already pays £££ of tax so, no thanks.

yerbutnobut · 21/08/2018 16:48

Early millennial here at 37.
The trouble with politics is like anything else in life, there's no 'one size fits all' and 'you can't please all of the people all of the time'.
People vote for whatever policies are relevant to them at that time, what is going to benefit them more at this time in their lives. As for a millenial at the younger end of the scale, many don't think beyond the here and now, there is a culture of mum and dad will sort me out, I've had these conversations in real life, its a thought process beyond me.

ThinksTwice · 21/08/2018 16:49

MT was an MP for 20 years before she became PM. Even after 20 years of experience as an MP she wasn't PM material to some.

Imagine having a young PM with little experience voted in for looks and charisma? There's a reason PMs are usually older; because they have gained experience to do the job.

I think generation Z should be forming a party.

The Millennials are the babies of the baby boomers who had their children early with the tax payer paying their university fees. They were also able to buy houses early at a good price.

I'm guilty of the latter, though I did save up for a deposit - I wouldn't have got a mortgage if I hadn't demonstrated I was saving. I'm cusp baby boomer.

I do have a pension.

I do have money to leave to my children who are not millennials. They are all generation Z. Had my babies late in life - mid thirties onwards.
