Form a political party:

  • stop Brexit
  • prioritise housing
  • impose at least 50% tax on all inheritance
  • impose second home taxes

And other stuff. But they should be IN CHARGE now. They need to rise up and sort things out.

I keep telling my DC but they are too busy on instagram. AIBU?

Justawater: that is interesting!

Why would I want to fix it? The system is in my favour. I'm old already.

longwayoff · 21/08/2018 16:07

Oh dear. The quality of debate is lacking somewhat. Have some more coffee everyone.

Westworldmaeve · 21/08/2018 16:07

This thread makes me crave avocado (I'm not a millenial though).

NoSleepTil2030 · 21/08/2018 16:07

Genuine question here, does everyone realise how old Millenials are? I think we get confused with Gen Z on some of these threads. Millenials were born in 81 - 96 so many of us are in our mid-30s now (granted the youngest are early 20s still).

SlothMama · 21/08/2018 16:08

Oh shut up, why would we want 50% inheritance tax and taxes on second homes? Your generation fucked it up for us so why don't you do something about it?

Some people are so stupid...

SlothMama · 21/08/2018 16:09

"I'm old already"

And there's the typical attitude from your generation.

brownmouse · 21/08/2018 16:10

Longwayoff: indeed. Pretty sure the debate was much more robust in our youth....

All this used to be fields you know...

Who says we don’t want a fat gray middle aged woman in charge? Fuck ageism.
(Disclaimer, I am a fat gray middle aged woman).

WhatToDoAboutWailmerGoneRogue · 21/08/2018 16:11

Why would I want to fix it? The system is in my favour. I'm old already.

Ahh, I see. Typical selfish attitude from those of your generation.

ThinksTwice · 21/08/2018 16:12

Just so I'm clear, what age group are you referring to when you say millennials because I get confused?

stackhead · 21/08/2018 16:12

I think it's really unwise to lump all us millennials into the same standard group.

I wouldn't vote for half the things on your list that you seem to think "we" want.

Unfortunately we're working within the confines of a restrictive voting system, and until either the older generations or the younger generation (one they're all voting ages) come to together that's not going to change. Until then we've got to work with what we've got, which is mostly politicians pandering to the grey vote and making token, mostly pathetic attempts to appeal to the millenial vote.

brownmouse · 21/08/2018 16:14

thinkstwice: anyone cross about being saddled with 50k of debt and never likely to own their own home (i.e. Under their own steam and without handouts from family, including inheritance).

OP posts:
beachygirl · 21/08/2018 16:15

Don't want a fat gray woman in charge? How about a thin gray man then. Corbyn anyone?

Leesa65 · 21/08/2018 16:16

Yes NoSleep

Mine were born in 91 and 93 respectively .
I have two teens (early and late) but no idea what "Generation" they are all named . I think I shall google.

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 21/08/2018 16:16

Again, OP.

What are you suggesting that millennials actually do?

Forming a new political party will make absolutely fuck all difference in the context of the electoral system we have.

SlothMama · 21/08/2018 16:16

I have a mountain of student debt which I don't care about, it gets wiped. And I'm completing on a house on Thursday which I bought with no financial help from anyone!

But yeah I'm just another hopeless millennial who should cancel brexit....

yawning801 · 21/08/2018 16:17

"Kids these days are too arrogant... think the world should be handed to them on a plate... don't trust them to be in charge... they'll fill it with avocados on toast..."

Sound familiar? That's what I'm getting from this thread. To echo PPs... you fucked it up, you fix it. YABU.

EthelThePiratesDaughter · 21/08/2018 16:17

And more specifically, how do you suggest that millennials "stop Brexit" when Brexit is a mere six months away, there is very little prospect of a general election, and even if there were, the only two parties that can actually win a general election both say they will go through with Brexit?

Leesa65 · 21/08/2018 16:17

Ahh, I see. Typical selfish attitude from those of your generation.

If she is Generation X she does not represent me or my outlook .

Bit of a sweeping statement there by yourself . Its like those whom generalise about all Millennials.
There are things I cannot stand that they seem to like, but not all of them like the same thing . Just like every other Generation before us were not all the same.

JohnnyKarate · 21/08/2018 16:18

I am a Millennial, born in the early 90s. The only way most of my age group will be able to afford a house is from the inheritance left by their parents. Why on earth would they want to pay 50% inheritance tax? Absolute madness.

SheSellSeaShells · 21/08/2018 16:19

millenial here (just - 81 born) and I don't want 50% inheritance tax and taxes on second homes.....

DieAntword · 21/08/2018 16:19

Too late to stop brexit. I’d quite like my full inheritance whenever my parents die because although it won’t make up for losing them emotionally it will help fill the hole of financial support they give me whenever I get in serious trouble. I would panic if I thought I had nothing to fall back on at all.

Leesa65 · 21/08/2018 16:20

I understand JohnnyKarate

My eldest two still live with their Dad , and my sons fiance also lives there . They don't stand a chance in getting housing unless they move out a fair way, which I think it might come too. They were 90s born too

brownmouse · 21/08/2018 16:20

Ok so it sounds like there isn't a lot of yoof here who actually like the current system, don't mind about student debts and are happy with the housing situation. And inequality being passed down the generations. Which is disappointing.

(You've got no way of paying for the NHS or social care though.)

FASH84 · 21/08/2018 16:21

@SlothMama without wanting to appropriate a hashtag, me too... Financially solvent , home owner, degree educated millennial with no parental handouts, surrounded by peers in similar situations. But apparently we're all fucked and couldn't work out how to over come the challenges of our generation....
