(Lighthearted)

When having a scone do you put the jam on first and then the cream, or the cream on first and then the jam?

And do you pronounce scone like “Scoan” or ”Scon”?

Chocolate scones are nice too but entirely different experience.

INGREDIENTS
1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
1/2 teaspoon kosher salt
1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, cold
1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips
2/3 cup heavy cream
1 large egg
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Preheat the oven to 375 degrees F, and a line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Place the flour, cocoa, sugar, baking powder, and salt in a large mixing bowl and whisk to combine.
Using a pastry blender, cut in the butter until the pieces are pea-sized.
Add the chocolate chips.
Stir the cream, egg, and vanilla together in a liquid measuring cup.
Pour into the dry ingredients, and stir/knead together just until the dough gathers itself into a ball.
Transfer the dough to the prepared baking sheet, and flatten it to a thickness of about 1 1/2-inch.
Score into 6 equal wedges, and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until set.

@jen i’d prefer a plain scone personally as not a huge fan of sultanas or raisins. If it was all that was on offer then i’d still demolish it in 2 bites though

Jam then cream on a scone (rhyme with bone) 😁

Jenasaurus · 20/08/2018 15:58

and cheese scones are even nicer with chilli added and onion too

SeekingClosure · 20/08/2018 16:01

Scon, jam then cream, dp and me.

summermeadows · 20/08/2018 16:01

Homemade 'scoan' must include butter, jam (preferably seedless raspberry) & whipped double cream 😋
Or
'Scoan' with butter, strawberry jam, whipped double cream & fresh strawberries on top!

My mouth's watering now…

JamForBrains · 20/08/2018 16:04

@acatsnohelpwiththat it bugs me too. My English teacher always said if it makes sense when you take the other person out, you got it right.
Can you settle an argument between (DP and) I doesn't make sense im a dick too

Takfujimoto · 20/08/2018 16:56

Seedless Raspberry Jam and plain Scones.

Babybearsporij · 20/08/2018 16:58

Scon.
Cream first, it acts as the butter IMO.

Raspberry jam.

Bangs gavel.

socraties1234 · 20/08/2018 16:58

what happens when you turn the scone upside down?

HunterHearstHelmsley · 20/08/2018 16:59

Cream, jam. Proncouced scoan the right way

Tiptopj · 20/08/2018 17:03

To me, jam needs a flat surface to be spread properly so it makes sense to put the jam first and then the cream.

I really want a scone now.

DaffodilPower · 20/08/2018 17:08

It's got to be 'scon' - it's the fastest cake in the world!!

PostcodeJack · 20/08/2018 17:21

Normally butter, jam, cream. Otherwise cream, jam, cream if no butter. And "scon"

Jenasaurus · 20/08/2018 17:52

Can I interject here please, no no no to raspberry jam, it has to be strawberry

BrynhildurWhitemane · 20/08/2018 17:54
