(Lighthearted)

When having a scone do you put the jam on first and then the cream, or the cream on first and then the jam?

And do you pronounce scone like “Scoan” or ”Scon”?

scone - gone, jam and cream on top.

DarlingNikita · 20/08/2018 15:27

That's where you're going wrong, trying to spread the jam. You just spoon it on in a big fruit-filled heap.

No no no, you want a bit more cream than jam and jam in a nice even spread so you get a mixed mouthful every time, not great lumps of jam.

Iamnotacerealkiller · 20/08/2018 15:28

Depends on the consistancy of the materials. thicker one goes underneath otherwise its a mess. so if the jam is very firm it goes first but if its runny goes on the cream.

Regarding the scone/scon, i believe that when there is a question of the pronunciation i believe that the 'done' thing is to go with the queens. She says Scon.

Im not a royalist or anything but i happy to let her have that one thing...

Cream
Jam
Rhymes with gone

OverTheHedgeSammy · 20/08/2018 15:30

Scone rhymes with gone, and jam (strawberry preferably) then cream (clotted preferably). Would tolerate other dark fruit jam but apricot (a favourite on toast) is just not up to the job. Will tolerate whipped cream, but definitely not runny or the revolting stuff squirted out of a can.

Jenasaurus · 20/08/2018 15:31

Its obviously scoan if you removed the s its cone not con so scone is scoan and not scon..

MsMotherOfDragons · 20/08/2018 15:31

First, I take my SCON! Then I put jam on it. Then a dollop of cream on top. Yum.

Jenasaurus · 20/08/2018 15:33

my favourite way is warm scone, butter, jam and a dollop of clotted cream washed down with lashings of hot tea...can you tell im on a diet!

Juells · 20/08/2018 15:34

I used to think people who pronounced it ‘scoan’ were just misguidedly trying to sound posh grin but now I think it’s probably more a regional thing.

Oooh, I always thought it was the other way round, that 'scon' was the posh way to say it, and we scoan people were advertising our low classness. Grin

McNutty · 20/08/2018 15:34

Jam first and then cream. How do you even spread Jam on cream?

Pronunciation - 'Scoan'

happymummy12345 · 20/08/2018 15:34

Butter then jam, never, ever cream. And I pronounce it scoan

TeaForDad · 20/08/2018 15:35

Scohwn, with cream first then jam

Stephisaur · 20/08/2018 15:35

My SIL puts butter on hers, can't understand it myself.

It's "scon" and it's cream, then jam. Unless you're in a hurry, then it's cream one side, jam the other and all in your mouth like a sandwich!

McNutty · 20/08/2018 15:36

This is a terrible thread. All this talk of warm scones, with jam and a dollop of clotted cream, am i the only one swallowing upon reading that?

goforthandmultiply · 20/08/2018 15:37

Jam, cream, scon

JustMeHere1 · 20/08/2018 15:38

Jam then cream.
Scone to rhyme with moan 😂

Hubby is opposite and we're both Yorkshire people. Lol.

Jenasaurus · 20/08/2018 15:39

McNutty I am sorry for that, my kids tell me off for sounding like an M&S advert when I describe foods, particularly deserts...I am on a very strict diet so can relate to it too now :)

JustMeHere1 · 20/08/2018 15:39

On a side note - my in laws call crumpets pike-lets. It horrifies me! 😂🙈

ineedwine99 · 20/08/2018 15:40

Jam then cream
scone to rhyme with cone

prettygreywalls · 20/08/2018 15:40

Cream then jam on a scon rhyming with gone- unless it's a cheese scone - that would make it taste a bit odd GrinGrin

DarlingNikita · 20/08/2018 15:42

apricot (a favourite on toast) is just not up to the job

Yes, I agree. I favour raspberry though. Strawberry is a bit meh.

fuckthisforfun · 20/08/2018 15:42

No butter, cream then jam raspberry
Scone rhymes with gone.

Sandsnake · 20/08/2018 15:42

Jam then cream. Scone to rhyme with gone.

I now really fancy a cream tea...

FASH84 · 20/08/2018 15:43

No butter, cream first (clotted acts as butter too) then a dollop of jam on top. Scon to rhyme with gone

CutesyUserName · 20/08/2018 15:43
