(Lighthearted)

When having a scone do you put the jam on first and then the cream, or the cream on first and then the jam?

And do you pronounce scone like “Scoan” or ”Scon”?

Jam
Cream
Scon

Jam then cream.

But all the happy couples do it the opposite way to each other.

I’m convinced that it’s the secret to a happy relationship as you don’t both want to use the cream first, so can then swop over

OutrageousFlavourLikeFreesias · 20/08/2018 18:03

Jam, cream, then the scone is gone.

It's mainly a Devon vs Cornwall debate. The Cornish put the jam on first, and those poor, misguided folk north of the Tamar do it the wrong way, because they don't know any better and won't be told. Grin

Pronounciation - either as I have one parent one way and one the other way but usually scone to rhyme with cone. Depends on who I’m talking to I guess.

My mother is from Devon so clotted cream then jam. The cream should be more solid than the jam otherwise the jam is more of a jelly really. Raspberry is better than strawberry and homemade is the best :)

Jam then cream on a scone (sounds like stone), north Manchester here. John Lewis café in Cheadle serve fabulous scones

Cakeorchocolate · 20/08/2018 18:41

Jam then cream for me. And scone as in cone not con.
DH is cream then jam though. And only usually says scon to annoy me.

SnowyAlps · 20/08/2018 18:44

Scoan

squirrelnutkins1 · 20/08/2018 18:50

Cream then jam. Scon

redastherose · 20/08/2018 19:00

Butter, Jam then Cream and it's Scon with a short 'o'sound.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 20/08/2018 19:32

Jam first.
We do it that way because Cornish clotted cream is vastly superior to Devon cream. You can't appreciate a good clot and crust if it's hidden away under jam like you're ashamed of it

Scon

(Or split)

LyndorCake · 20/08/2018 19:37

I do both. One end gets cream then jam, the other gets jam then cream. And it's scone to rhyme with one. Never scoan

vdbfamily · 20/08/2018 19:41

Jam then cream and it is a Scoan until you eat it and then it's gone!!(Scon)
