To think that this massive women’s rights issue is going under the radar. (As it’s being hidden from them.)

So AIBU to think that this massive women’s rights issue is going under the radar?
Excuse the length of this post ...A couple of days ago I was wasting time on Facebook. When I had a nose at the Lib Dem local home page in my area. They had a poster photographed in one post. The poster reads as follows; ( I can’t post a picture of the post.)

“WOMEN
Did you know that there are men,
Who have assaulted & raped women housed in U.K. women’s prisons because they claim to be women?
Did you know that groups are going into schools & telling kids they can ‘choose’ wether to be a boy or a girl & that these groups receive children in need and lottery funding??
Did you know that proposed changes to the Gender Recognition Act will mean that a man is allowed into women’s spaces (changing rooms, sports teams, swimming sessions) just by declaring himself to be a woman?
Want to know more? CHECK OUT
@Man FRIDAY,@transgenderTrd @womansplaceuk @resisters @lillylilymainard @ sexfenderethics”

So...they have made the point that they think this is not acceptable. Also that is transphobic. They have asked anybody who sees the posters to remove them.
I commented that I didn’t think it was transphobic, because it contained no openly aggressive or hateful rhetoric. I then decided to follow the twitter link thingies and have a read to see what was all the fuss about. Still not finding anything phobic. I went back to the Facebook page and said- I’ve followed the links which (briefly) amongst other things talk about how women are worried about giving away their safe spaces to trans men who may be attracted to women depending on their nature. Like toilets changing rooms etc.
So there followed me being told I must be transphobic. Because I had that worry. That even just wondering about wether it was safe to allow trans men into women’s private spaces was transphobic. I wasn’t happy but I didn’t get abusive. I replied with a link to Jenifer James’s campaign. They hid my comments, and then named me. Then went on to say I was disgusting. Transphobic, and a bigot. Nobody had any idea what I had actually said as it was hidden. Luckily as I was the first to speak I was able to delete my first comment and stop myself being painted as some kind of head case.
A day or so later I decided now that I was feeling a bit freaked out at feeling I’d been shut down harshly to have a look on the feminism forum here. I have posted in the feminism activism area on the feminism forum. I can’t link as it breaks the forum rules. ( I think this is ok though.) go and have a look about a thread mentioning posters popping up around Bromley..

Yet it was a Christian feminist that brought the Scottish government to court over the school breaching safeguarding agenda. Why randomly blame Christians for all of this?

This agenda started in a community the other than Christianity, it started in the LGBT community and is being pushed by that community. It is only lesbian feminists that are fighting this along with the odd gay man and they have been treated terribly by the LGBT community, have you seen how Get the L out have been a spoken about?

Hi, OP, looks like you’ve fallen down the rabbit hole - there’s a lot to read. Well done for posting.

Some excellent advice has been given here. Just wanted to add, if you can get yourself to a meeting, they’re really useful for hearing more about it.

I run a group called Let a Woman Speak, founded off the back of the silencing of women during this debate. We have a meeting coming up next weekend in Plymouth if you’re nearby. We still have tickets available.

Either way, we have lots of info on our site, with some great resources links so you can find out more. Always happy to take questions via DM too.

Good luck on your journey!

My dd goes to a very good state girls school. There is a waiting list a mile long. Our friends dd didn't get in this year spaces are extremely highly valued. Dd had the job of showing around the new year 7s. She was surprised as some of them "were boys mummy"

There goes the neighbourhood.

To those saying "there are hundreds of threads on this"
Yes - HERE there are. But, oddly enough, the entire country isn't on Mumsnet. There are still millions of people who have no idea what's going on. The truth is being suppressed.

KateGrey · 20/08/2018 12:55

I must admit I’ve only just started going to the feminist boards now. I had no idea how terrifying this is and what it will mean to women (that is born women). I have two girls and it scares me that women’s rights will be eroded when we’ve fought so hard to be heard.

Welcome KateGrey.

You will be in need of Gin if you intend to stay

If any of you becoming aware of this for the first time are teachers, you might want to let the Chartered College know of your concerns. Very worryingly, over the weekend, they tweeted their support for a petition against 'anti-LGBTQ' materials being distributed to schools.

This is the pack that is being objected to:

www.transgendertrend.com/wp-content/uploads/2018/02/Transgender-Trend-Resource-Pack-for-Schools.pdf

The petition emanates from supporters of the idea that gender identity is all and that biological sex is basically an irrelevance. As others have said, the consequences for us and our DDs are enormous, but boys too suffer hugely from these regressive ideas about gender stereotypes.

twitter.com/charteredcoll/status/1030462174576226306?s=21. Please comment on the thread if you feel that the professional body representing teachers should be more careful about what it publicly supports.

@stealthsquirrelnutkin
I am disgusted about what you describe in your first post and i am sorry that your sexuality is being doubted by this awful trans nonsense.

I am not a lesbian so j Don't know how you feel but I imagine that it m7st be awful to be told that you are not a "proper lesbian".

Stay strong

Punta · 20/08/2018 14:01

Partystress I spotted this at the weekend as well and have messaged (teacher here).

Part of the problem is that lots of well meaning organisations and individuals calling women who speak out bigots because they think we are speaking out against transexuals. We aren’t -it is pro women’s rights. My husband was incredulous when I told him the implications. Unfortunately, there are also a lot of people saying this because it is politically expedient for them to do do so and because it is clear that some men really don’t like women.

kooshbin · 20/08/2018 14:07

There will be organisations who would employ/promote a transwoman over a woman. That ticks the right "equal opportunities" box, without all that pesky nuisance of pregnancy and maternity leave.

Hazandduck · 20/08/2018 15:12

Thank you very much for the links @nosquirrels, I certainly will do.
It is a total rabbit hole of information, I’m trying my best to keep up! I had a daughter last year and it is only really since then that I’ve become increasingly aware of the every day oppression and sexism women face! It scares me too @kategrey Sad The eloquence of the posters on the feminism boards is incredible. I fail to see how anyone could respond aggressively to such calm, clear reasoning 🤷‍♀️
I will also have a look for talks near me as I’m not local to Plymouth. Definitely can’t sit on my hands any longer.

Hazandduck · 20/08/2018 15:14

@Punta my husband responded in exactly the same way when I said if this law passed our DD potentially could be forced in future to undress in front of predatory men in changing rooms. Put in those terms I don’t see how anyone could think it is ok.

ferntwist · 20/08/2018 15:16

Completely agree with you OP. This is the biggest grab of women and girls’ rights in our lifetime, to benefit a small but growing group of men.

I think this is many women’s experience, haz. Things it was fine to not even think about as younger women come into sharp relief after childbirth. Or even before, as you get older, when discrimination becomes increasingly apparent.

So Lib Dem’s said;
“It's absolutely right that we pause and think and question these issues as the world - and the law - changes but hopefully in a spirit of generosity and friendship, with the aim of bringing us together rather than dividing us. This campaign to whip up fear and suspicion against an already much-abused minority can never be acceptable.”

Suck my balls, Sarah Brown is a LD, they started local authorities down the path of removing sex as a protected characteristic from their policy, days after the EA became live.
