I've had to chuck half of one away because it's quite possibly the most disgusting thing I've ever tasted! Anyone else? Or is it just me...

trying to cut down on meat eating i bought two of these in asdas, hen i got home and actually looked at the ingredient list i threw them away, couldnt find any veg in the list only a huge list of additives, chemical numbers and quorn, surely a vegetable pie should actually contain some err vegetables

IamPickleRick · 19/08/2018 23:04

I’m not even a full time vegetarian, I just don’t like frozen meat products so I keep veggie stuff in for poor effort frozen meals if I’ve not had a chance to cook.

Graphista · 19/08/2018 23:16

Quorn not only a brand but a particular type of (I think) trademarked meat substitute.

LMC uses soya I think.

Graphista · 19/08/2018 23:18

Issey - vegetarian pie not vegetable pie. There are vegetable pies too (which are also yummy) but a vegetarian pie isn't necessarily going to contain recognisable vegetables.

RoseWhiteTips · 19/08/2018 23:23

Awful. They were once ok.

RoseWhiteTips · 19/08/2018 23:24

Quorn is good but it makes everything taste the same.

RoseWhiteTips · 19/08/2018 23:26

I see no point in eating meat substitutes, though. If you are vegetarian you don’t need meat or a pretend form. Vegetables are amazing.Mmmmmm

glueandstick · 19/08/2018 23:27

They used to be lovely with thick glossy gravy. Now the gravy is insipid, pale and gloopy and utterly rank.

God I miss them from 20 years ago.

RockYourSocksOff · 19/08/2018 23:31

I do prefer the Quorn steak pies these days rather than LM country pie. I don’t know why but my LM pie usually comes out with a soggy bottom even when I’ve followed the instructions to the rule. When I get it right though, add a bit of mash and some tasty gravy and it’s not a bad little dish.

I love LM sausage rolls, although I normally cut them into mini ones as I find they cook so much better.

The most vile veggie dish I’ve tasted was something by M&S, which really surprised me. Think it was their veggie meatballs, ooh they were hideous. Asda own meatball range are pretty tasty though!

Titsywoo · 19/08/2018 23:32

I love her sausages. I'm not even veggie I just prefer veggie sausages to meat ones and hers are the best.

ToadOfSadness · 19/08/2018 23:33

Most of the LM stuff is awful. Must be the palm oil.

Cauldron sausages and some of the Quorn stuff is almost edible though. I avoid things I used to like (pies, fake sausage rolls for example) because the pastry contains palm oil and it is not nice at all.

NutButterNutter · 19/08/2018 23:41

Ooooooo noooo YABVU indeed! I love a Linda Pie with mash and veggie Bisto on the side (I am well classy).
The mozzarella burgers are a particular treat but you so need to over cook them and pile them up with onion rings and extra cheese that you melt on top.
The sausages are the nearest to meaty, I reckon (waves @FuzzyCustard and misses Doctors).
And now I'm hungry Hmm

Poloshot · 19/08/2018 23:46

Of course they're total dogshit, there's no meat in them.

Seniorcitizen1 · 19/08/2018 23:51

Of course rhey are vile - there is no meat in them. Like a lot of veggie stuff that pretends to be real food - veggie sausages veggie haggis etc - the food is rubbish

feral · 19/08/2018 23:55

I couldn't face even trying one, but o do love the sausages!

Tomatoesrock · 20/08/2018 00:21

I do love the mozzarella burgers, if cooked longer at a low heat they are juicy. I eat the saugages but they are not great. A really nice veggie lunch, if you do not care about the calories are Greggs vegetable bakes, they are amazing, I am addicted.

paintedwingsandgiantrings · 20/08/2018 00:22

I love a Linda McCartney pie!

It's one of the few meals that both my kids will eat at the moment, too.

Shazafied · 20/08/2018 00:24

Love them in our house !!

daphine2004 · 20/08/2018 00:28

Meat eater here, but have only bought LM sausages for last five years or so. Initially bought to reduce meat consumption and we love them. Also really like LM mozzarella burgers - we have with toasted brioche burger buns and a chilli jam relish on top, served with swwwy potato wedges.

Those two products alone are fab 😋

cumberlandsausages · 20/08/2018 02:25

YANBU

They smell like dog food

greenlanes · 20/08/2018 02:35

not keen on any of the LMc range. It normally goes on special offer and is very cheap so I really do question the quality of ingredients. I used to like Quorn but now think it is starting to upset me :(

Looptheloopy · 20/08/2018 02:47

Agreed. Try Clive’s pies, the new vegan “Kevin” pie from pieminister, or Fry’s pies

Sammyham88 · 20/08/2018 02:51

OP are you veggie/ vegan? Might be that you're just not that used to that kind of texture/ taste if you're usually eating meat and only having these as a healthy option.

Personally think the LM pies are amazing, but as a PP said I usually cook them at a slower temp for longer as I do with most veggie/ vegan fake meats as they tend to cook better that way, also with the pies, I always have something like gravy, mash or mushy peas with them so they aren't too dry.

But then again, maybe it's different taste buds for different folks as you said you like quorn and find most of that range like cardboard IMO.

ALongHardWinter · 20/08/2018 03:05

I've never tried the pies because I don't think they look very nice. I have had the sausage rolls and they were OK but nothing special.
