Just so festival

Was utter hipster nonsense

We came home early more of a county fair

And when a boy was asked by an entinterainer in the not so magical wood who what types of things he hates he shouted TORYS

What 7 year old would give that as a answer

My husband was just like we need to go utter horse shit their wasn’t much music most of the activities were drunk grownups while there children looked on

It seems to me it’s activities hipsters would like their children to do rather than what children actually a over hyped over priced county fair

Spoke to a vendor that was their and said it’s been worse every year and they won’t be back

Utter shite

We booked for Geronimo next year but just for the day mind

Can’t belive we paid £300 for the whole weekend and we’re back home again already we could of had a extra week at Euro camp for that and had ducking change

OP posts:

I find it strange op that you’re railing against “hate” here yet you have no compunction about hating on the hipsters. I love a bit of hipster watching myself!

Nothing more disappointing though than something being a bit shit when you’ve been looking forward it. Especially when it’s so expensive!

NaomiNagata · 19/08/2018 11:35

@LilyMumsnet

But you don't remove hate filled posts which include the phrase "hipster knobs"?

The OP created this thread to complain about lack of tolerance and teaching children to hate a certain group of people (a political party) she has called a whole movement of other people knobs. But that's fine?

Anoushkasays · 19/08/2018 11:50

Correct spelling, grammar and punctuation are necessary in order to be understood, especially by those who don't have English as a first language. I like to be able to actually comprehend what a person is saying as opposed to 'getting the gist' of it (which tends to lead to further misunderstandings).

Bloobs · 19/08/2018 11:52

You need Deer Shed OP. Well run, more diverse, loads to do, good music, and the hipster activities are confined to a side area :o

I don't object to hipstery things in themselves but there is a tendency for the people running them to be idealistic and over-ambitious IME. And I agree it's often the kinds of thing people idealise their kids liking, instead of what they actually like.

SD1978 · 19/08/2018 11:53

Looking at the website- it doesn't claim to be a music festival- but a family festival. Whether it's hipster bait (looks like it) it was never going to be what you were looking for- and I can tell that from a quick glance at the website. Music was never the advertised focus. Hope you have better luck researching the next one. Have you thought about T in the park?

Bloobs · 19/08/2018 11:56

I work in publishing BTW and can probably out-pedant many of the pedants on this thread - but OP's post was perfectly clear, and it's unbelievably rude to correct someone who hasn't asked you to and isn't setting themselves up as an authority. Badly spelt letter from your child's English teacher, go for it. OP on MN about something else entirely - don't be so horrible.

Bloobs · 19/08/2018 11:57

I'd avoid T in the Park if you don't like drunkenness!

ShumpaLumpa · 19/08/2018 12:00

@NaomiNagata

OP hasn't called anyone here a hipster knob.

And are you suggesting that being hipster should be a protected characteristic? 😂

Wassat · 19/08/2018 12:00

Hmmm... fwiw I've been to just so a few years ago and yes it was definitely overpriced.. my kids were a lot smaller than it sounds like the op's are (2 and 4at the time) and they enjoyed it, but it is definitely aimed at small children. For what it was, it was ok, but we're not going back.

Dorsetdays · 19/08/2018 12:06

The OP created this thread to complain about lack of tolerance and teaching children to hate a certain group of people (a political party) she has called a whole movement of other people knobs

Think you missed the point of the OP which was actually to voice how disappointed they were with the festival. There were several examples given of why they felt it wasn’t worth £300....the 7 year old Tory hater was just one of them, not the main focus of the thread.

And BTW I totally agree that any 7 year old stating that has simply been ‘brainwashed’. Slightly sad really.

Lyndaishistory · 19/08/2018 12:07

I feel like a bad person but I find myself agreeing with the grammar police the "there" and "their" being used so incorrectly made me wince!

Haha, I can just imagine your face all pinched at the edges reading this. Get a life.

Kingkiller · 19/08/2018 12:07

There are some unbelievably twatty comments on this thread by people who probably wouldn't be criticising the OP's grammar if she'd posted asking for baby-related advice or something.

Newsflash: just because the OP is criticising hipster wankiness and doesn't think that training 7 year-olds to shout about hating people (even Tories), that doesn't make you any less of a rude, smug arse for picking on her about her grammar. It's got nothing to do with the topic and makes no difference to your ability to understand her posts.

Kingkiller · 19/08/2018 12:10

Oh and for the record, I'm a languages teacher. Correcting people's grammar is part of my job. If I can resist the impulse to be twatty about it on a public forum, so can you.

nakedscientist · 19/08/2018 12:11

OP I think you are being a bit of an inverted snob here. I wouldn't think it was fair to be so rude about a group of people. Hipster knobs? Is that OK?

You said the entertainer asked the boy what he hated, he probably thought he was being funny shouting Tories. Doesn't mean his parents taught him to hate, get a grip!

What would your kids shout " hipsters" ?

WhiteDust · 19/08/2018 12:15

Ah! The Jjust so festival! An opportunity for trendy Mums and Dads to introduce their offspring to festival life!
Several 'articles' have been written on the subject... Grin

@ShumpaLumpa

And she can complain about her wasted money without being vile when talking about the other patrons.

mortagemoans · 19/08/2018 12:20

OP I hear you. I’m a Tory Party ‘hater’, South Wales mining roots etc... but the wankiness of a 7 year old giving that answer grates. Very ‘right on’. Have had frank discussions with my kids over the years about politics and why I believe what I believe but at 7 I don’t think my kids first thought would have been of a political nature. Would be just as irritated if they said a football team or ‘catholics’ - I hear what you’re saying. I don’t like the idea of such festivals to be honest - what I’d like to get up to at a festival would require no children being in the vicinity 😄 As for the grammar stuff (sigh) I’m finding it quite brutal and unpleasant. Sorry you’ve wasted £300 that’s painful!!

mortagemoans · 19/08/2018 12:23

whitedust those daily mash links are soooooo funny 😄

SealSong · 19/08/2018 12:27

The real reason why people pile in to 'correct' grammar and spelling is to make the OP feel small.
It's bullying, pure and simple.
The people doing it are pretty pathetic to be honest, and I feel MNHQ should take a toughter stance against it.

nakedscientist · 19/08/2018 12:30

May I be first to answer the question.

YABU because just a quick look at the website tells you what it will be like. It's very Guardian/ hipster/quirky/ middleclass.

Don't pay £300 bloody quid if you want music/ Disney/heavy metal .......

Annarex · 19/08/2018 12:31

We went to the Just So Festival for the day a couple of years ago. We left after a few hours feeling that we had been made complete fools of. The whole thing looked like it had been thrown together by the local Brownie pack out of the terms subs. The activities were the sort of trivial diversions you might find at a village fete with free entry or a quid. Some of it engaged my preschoolers for a bit, but my seven year old was bored stiff
I had a really nice hot chocolate, but it was about £6.

ShumpaLumpa · 19/08/2018 12:32

@NaomiNagata

Saying 'hipster knobs' is not 'vile'. That's silly hyperbole. The parents of the 7yo do sound like knobs.

Billben · 19/08/2018 12:45

I find all these people applauding a 7 year old for saying he hates Tories quite pathetic. Even if you yourself are a Tory hater surely you’d teach your children to use their own mind to decide what they like/don’t like and why? A 7year saying such a thing is just a sheep. They follow and never lead.

Creatureofthenight · 19/08/2018 12:47

Afraid I’m with @nakedscientist , the website makes it sound like a hipster family wonderland.
Nothing wrong with that if it’s your bag, but clearly wasn’t the OPs.
Sorry you had a crap time @Metoodear .

Ahzrei · 19/08/2018 12:49

A word of warning to those of you cheering on the 7 year old and making a note to take your kids to this festival:

I was brought up at festivals like this. I basically spent most of my childhood in a field watching the Levellers. Eventually I figured out for myself how desperately dull and inauthentic the vast majority of the people at these things are. I'm now a Tory Councillor.

Oh, and Latitude's not much better if you're looking to leave the hipsters behind. I believe it was nicknamed latte-tude by the second year of its existence. I mean, the sheep are pastel coloured, so what can you expect?
