Sobbing over the death of a TV character

HRTpatch · 10/08/2018 07:28

We are binge watching Boardwalk Empire. My favourite character died last night and I was in bits. It was beautifully done and a shocking end to the season.
I haven't felt this way since Thelma and Louise went over the canyon. Sad

OP posts:
GunpowderGelatine · 11/08/2018 00:13

Michael in Jane the Virgin. I was so upset I actually didn't sleep for a few nights Blush

gluteustothemaximus · 11/08/2018 00:18

Mike from desperate housewives Sad

Stupid vanessa williams and her aussie bloke. All their fault! Angry

TreaterAnita · 11/08/2018 00:23

I literally cry at pretty much any tv/film death scene unless I totally hate the character or they’ve only been on screen for 2 mins. It’s like a curse. I sobbed when Helen died on Neighbours FFS. I almost have PTSD from watching Up. It’s like I’m afflicted with over empathy or something (this is not a stealth boast, I feel like a proper twat).

rainbowsandsmiles · 11/08/2018 00:34

Mike from desperate housewives sad Stupid vanessa williams and her aussie bloke. All their fault!

Exactly, he was innocent, him and Susan all back together and happy and just now all WTF you can't die Sad Sad

SoKissMeHard · 11/08/2018 00:39

Aw I cried buckets when Cal in Casualty died 😭 when Ethan walks in. OMG. And how hard Dylan fought to save him.

AtlantaGinandTonic · 11/08/2018 00:44

OP if the Boardwalk Empire death is the same that made me cry, I don't blame you. It made me pretty numb to anything else I see on TV. Did it happen to involve someone who was soon to be a parent for the first time?

MyfanwyMontez · 11/08/2018 00:46

You all are probably too young ( or too cool) to remember this but when Peggy Snow in Where The Heart Is died , I was inconsolable!

Stylinson · 11/08/2018 01:03

Patrick in Offspring. Properly sobbed. For ages.

flapjackfairy · 11/08/2018 01:21

I remember Peggy Snow. Ah yet another snotfest.
And does anyone remember that Raymond Briggs one about the girl and her Grandad . They play together and have all sorts of imagined adventures and then he dies in his armchair leaving her alone and bereft.
In fact bloody Raymond Briggs ! What a miserable buggar he is ! Has anyone mentioned The Snowman yet ! ?

Timeisslippingaway · 11/08/2018 01:28

FabulouslyFab
I think that's the one.

gluteustothemaximus · 11/08/2018 01:40

Treater - I always cry at Up. It never gets easier.

DD looks at me -‘mum? Are you crying again? But you’ve seen this film loads of times now’.

YES. AND IT IS STILL SAD. SO I STILL CRY.

Rainbow - it took me years to re-watch Desperate housewives again. I did cry again, but it wasn’t as gut wrenching as I mentally prepared myself for it...

MrsJonSno · 11/08/2018 01:44

Lady Cybil in Downton! 😔👎

EmmaGrundyForPM · 11/08/2018 01:50

When I was pregnant with ds1 and incredibly emotional aboit everything, DH came home from work.to find me sobbing so hard I couldn't speak. He thought something had happened to the baby.

I eventually managed to gasp.out that Guy Pemberton had died. DH didn't habe a clue who that was. It took several.minutes of me sobbing even more before I managed to explain he was a character in The Archers.. Blush

OneInAMillionYou · 11/08/2018 01:53

The West Wing is my favourite tv series ever and I sobbed and sobbed when Leo died, because it meant that John had died for real.
It really ruined Series 7 for me and I have to skip that episode when rewatching.

Also Mrs Landingham. The way Charley says 'she's dead' chills me.

Now to Game of Thrones.

Thus far, Ned's execution was the worst death, with his daughters watching. Knowing the Starks would never be ALL together again.

I'm looking forward to S 8 but if they kill off Arya I won't be responsible for my actions! Keep Jon Snow and Daenerys, Arya has been the heart of the story for me.

Carriebradshawsshoes · 11/08/2018 01:58

Please can we be aware of spoilers.

The ending of The Sopranos Sad unfortunately in those mafia shows there are no winners.

My friend watched the Notebook for the first time today. She is still in bits.

Icantreachthepretzels · 11/08/2018 02:21

I know we've had a few Buffy mentions - but I can't believe no one has mentioned the deaths over on the Angel side of the verse. Fred and Wesley. I don't even like the character - but I don't think anything as sad as Wesley's death seen has ever or will ever be written, it's just ... there are no words.
I can't even think the sentence 'Would you like me to lie to you now?' without ugly crying.

Raffles1981 · 11/08/2018 06:22

I was 8 months pregnant when my favourite character in Nashville died. DP walks in, thinks something bad had happened. Shook his head and laughed (more with relief I think) when I pointed at the TV. Hormones Confused

Clawdy · 11/08/2018 08:13

Yes, a few spoilers on here. Already two references to Mamma Mia, which is only just showing in some local cinemas.

ExBbqQueen · 11/08/2018 10:07

As for spoilers the clue is in the title....

I remember sobbing at American real tv drama - in the 80’s I think, a mum kills her 2 kids, she’s gone off with her male cousin & then they kill themselves. The dad had known something was off but wasn’t allowed to have custody. I still remember it today as it was an obviously distressing story

ExBbqQueen · 11/08/2018 10:08

But I can’t remember what it was called. Or the actors if anyone can help!

rainbowsandsmiles · 11/08/2018 10:35

Oh come on, I hate spoilers too, but if you open a title about the death of TV characters it's a risk you take, surely?!

Carriebradshawsshoes · 11/08/2018 10:57

Anyone mentioned Adrianna in the Sopranos? I thonk i was too numb to cry. The endong of 6ft Under from Claires deathbed? The most perfect encjbv to a tv show ever.

notsmartenough · 11/08/2018 11:02

ExBbqQueen I've never witnessed a bad accident, that must have been awful. Hope your journey goes well.

I came back to say sorry to Virgin media - just noticed Alibi and Dave are back ! Unfortunately I deleted most of the series links and some recordings.

Willow2017 · 11/08/2018 11:25

ER. Was terrible foraking me cry but Marks death nearly ended me. I stil cant listen to that somg without tearing up!

Cried hundred times during TWD its heartbreaking. Too many to mention.

End of Blackadder is awful just so bloody sad. And done so well, one minute its 'Huzzahr' next over the top such a shock after all the comedy.😭
Buffy finding her mum dead.
Giles finding Jenny murdered by Angel in his bed.
David Tennants "I dont want to go" in Dr Who omg i was a wreck.

TheCountryGirl · 11/08/2018 11:27

I have sobbed through so many deaths in Home and Away. Meg, Shane, Sally's husband Flynn and a girl who's name I can't remember. She had a gorgeous husband who was a bad boy but she turned him around...its bugging me now!

Was it Charlie? She was the police officer who fell in love with Brax and shot. She had her life support turned off.
