Sobbing over the death of a TV character

We are binge watching Boardwalk Empire. My favourite character died last night and I was in bits. It was beautifully done and a shocking end to the season.
I haven't felt this way since Thelma and Louise went over the canyon. Sad

Scrubs always did deaths in a way that made me sob. Carla saying goodbye to Laverne made me howl and even my 10 year old had a bit of a cry at that and she’s not normally the type to get emotional about this stuff.

rosieposey · 10/08/2018 19:59

Dear lord 'The Book Thief' 😭😭😭😭 that film! When her papa dies and the boy with the golden hair - it's one of the first times I've ever seen my DH properly sob. I was in bits walking out of the cinema Sad

Cameron2012 · 10/08/2018 20:00

ET, Rachel Bradley off Cold Feet, Dr Who, Jack Duckworth

Spudina · 10/08/2018 20:15

I have sobbed through so many deaths in Home and Away. Meg, Shane, Sally's husband Flynn and a girl who's name I can't remember. She had a gorgeous husband who was a bad boy but she turned him around...its bugging me now!

apintofwhine · 10/08/2018 20:29

Fry's dog Seymour in futurama. It's the Connie Francis song which sets me off sobbing

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 10/08/2018 20:30

Ahhh I'd forgotten Dawsons Creek! Jen dying made me cry. So did Mr Brooks dying, actually! He'd just started to live.

DM gets emosh at Yul Brunner in King & I.

derxa · 10/08/2018 20:36

Not an inshow death, but I can’t watch Sopranos again knowing Tony is actually dead. His real life death gutted me. Adored his character, he was a good psychopath. Sad

yunalis · 10/08/2018 20:43

The best ones have already been said so I'll just add stitch in lilo and stitch 2, the little girl in grave of the fireflies, tadashi and baymax in big hero 6.

Mrs Landingham never listens when I shout at her not to buy that car 😭

BeetlebumShesAGun · 10/08/2018 20:48

Oooh The King and I always gets me Hathaway!

theSnuffster · 10/08/2018 20:49

Watched Coco today at the cinema and cried. The good dinosaur made me cry too, although I can't remember if someone dies or if it's sad for another reason? I won't watch it again though to find out!

Armageddon always makes me cry.

Poussay from OINTB and Nana from the royle family really stand out too.

Tessliketrees · 10/08/2018 20:50

Leo in the West Wing is the worst because you can't even tell yourself it isn't real.

DeadButDelicious · 10/08/2018 20:57

Fry's dog Seymour in futurama. It's the Connie Francis song which sets me off sobbing

Oh god I'd forgotten about the dog. That had us all in bits. Sad

lomasmax · 10/08/2018 21:02

Kylie in Coronation Street and Aidan Connor. Also agree with Matthew Crawley and Lady Cybil.
Will Traynor in Me Before You nearly killed me.

RusholmeRuffian · 10/08/2018 21:14

Mark Greene & Greg Pratt in ER
Tony Wilton in Soldier Soldier
Adriana in The Sopranos
Omar in The Wire because he was my favourite character
Not an on screen death but the scene in Band of Brothers where Malarkey goes to get his laundry and ends up collecting the laundry of so many comrades who it's become apparent are not coming back for it.

iloveeggandcressbutties · 10/08/2018 21:47

Dr Mark Green in ER years ago. Sobbed my little heart out.

Caaarrrl · 10/08/2018 22:33

@HaveSomeGrace

Yes you have it. We had spent all summer trying to figure out who it would be , but we never guessed that it would be 2 of our most favourite characters. We were also devastated when Carl was revealed to have been bitten, although the death episode was not too bad.

RuggerHug · 10/08/2018 22:39

Ok does it count if they don't die? Because the end of cool runnings sends me into a blubbering wreck every time. And then it gets happy which makes more tears.

'I'm not dead, but I have to finish the race' 😭😭😭😭

y0rkier0se · 10/08/2018 22:40

Definitely Rachel from Cold Feet! And Denny from Grey’s Anatomy Sad

y0rkier0se · 10/08/2018 22:43

Ohhh and the final episode of Six Feet Under, where it shows how everyone dies years later? It’s David’s funeral that really sets me off

Pebblespony · 10/08/2018 22:48

Another vote for Will in the Good Wife. I was WTAF! Since having a baby, anything where a child dies (Bloody Poldark box set had me bawling).

TellerTuesday4EVA · 10/08/2018 22:49

I've never felt that connected to any to get past teary eye stage.

My ex boyfriend however had to have a week off school when Angel died in Home & Away

Murine · 10/08/2018 22:51

I once cried when a workmate described the start of Up to me, I don’t think I ever dare actually watch it!

Dragonlight · 10/08/2018 22:55

Mark greene here too.
Barbara in Call the Midwife killed me.
I also remember as a teen sobbing over the death of David in Home and Away. It took me awhile to get over that one.

Teller Angel didn't die did she? Shane did and Angel moved to England with new love and her kids.

Dragonlight · 10/08/2018 22:56

I forgot the horse in Neverending Story. Waaa!

MrsGrindah · 10/08/2018 22:58

@CookPassBabtridge Hank didn’t die?
