He is clearly racist. He should be thrown out of the Conservative party.

OP posts:
Helmetbymidnight · 08/08/2018 08:17

Urgh.
B b but surely people wouldn’t get behind him. He’s a fucking twat.

gamerwidow · 08/08/2018 08:19

He can't keep getting away with these lazy, outdated comments.
They’re not lazy and outdated they are calculated to say how far he can push these dog whistle politics. Those meetings with Steve Bannon weren’t for nothing this is straight out of the Trump playbook.

Bluelady · 08/08/2018 08:20

The article was a defence of Denmark introducing legislation to ban the burqa. If he hadn't made the letterbox and bank robber allusions there would be no furore.

DaisyTwirl · 08/08/2018 08:22

It's not racist to condemn or discuss the burqa or niqab, but to ridicule the women wearing them is disgusting.
As an mp he should be above that, and certainly not encouraging it.

princesstiasmum · 08/08/2018 08:23

No he shouldn't be sacked.he's only saying what a lot of people think faces shouldn't be covered at all

French2019 · 08/08/2018 08:23

Absolutely. And each time, he will push it a little further, and the boundaries of what's seen as acceptable will move a little further to the right. It's terrifying to think where it may end up.

SinisterBumFacedCat · 08/08/2018 08:24

He is doing this to keep himself in the news, which tells you all you need to know about what he really thinks of women, Muslims and people in general, insignificant pawns to be used as props to gain power.

Prominent Leave supporter who turns out to be a racist, are we honestly surprised?

He won't apologise, he might issue a statement expressing "regret that his comments caused other people to be offended" which is insulting on its own.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/08/2018 08:25

Lass there are thousands of women going about their daily business wearing a niqabs

There is no way certain shops/banks/cafes/restaurants/hotels in London would ban it they would lose too much money

But we shall see more of a ban on Europe

I certainly support keeping the restrictions on keeping the niqab/burqa out of schools/university

runningkeenster · 08/08/2018 08:26

Boris Johnson has said some awful things, this seems like the least of it to me. Remember, he actually argued AGAINST a burkha ban, he just made comments about the way the women wearing them look.

Yes get him out of politics, but not because of this.

Calledyoulastnightfromglasgow · 08/08/2018 08:26

I think a lot of people think burqas do look utterly ridiculous.

He shouldn’t have said it but most people in the UK think face covering is a barrier to integration and normal life

Helmetbymidnight · 08/08/2018 08:29

And, of course, yes, it comes straight after his meetings with Steve Bannon...

But I still find it hard to believe that he thinks it would win him any support. I know, maybe I need to get with the programme but surely most people will just see privileged pompous turn-coat millionaire picking on some of the most vulnerable in society?
Who’s gonna like him for that?

LassWiADelicateAir · 08/08/2018 08:29

Lass there are thousands of women going about their daily business wearing a niqabs

I should have been clear I meant try using any other form of full face covering. If I tried to go into a public building wearing a balaclava or a fencing mask I wouldn't get very far.

I fully support the Danish ban.

Cuppaorwine · 08/08/2018 08:30

LakieLady

^^ sgree with you. It’s quite frightening.

I don’t like the burka it’s quite frankly a ridiculous outfit and has no place for women in the 21st century. It’s clearly mysogynistic and designed to marginalise and de humanise women and it has no religious base

but his choice of language and analogy would disgrace Anyome and was calculated to stir up general prejudices against Muslims dressed up as a liberal article.

The left are indulging in vile anti Semitic rhetoric and the right in stirring up islamsphobia.

Anyone has the the right to criticise any religion or cultural practise and indeed to joke about it that’s a free society but to attack a group of women like this smacks of bullying. You can critisise the burka without insulting those wearing it.

Just like you can criticise the state of Israel without attacking Jews.

I hate the nastiness which seems pervasive in the uk st the moment and Brexit is making it all
Worse

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/08/2018 08:34

No you wouldn’t get far wearing a balaclava

But the reasons you want to are likely to be very different

longwayoff · 08/08/2018 08:35

Agree unfinished kitchen. He's overreached himself and pissed off the party. Keep an eye on creepy Gove though. And save a forelock to tug for the charming (get my funds offshore now!) Mr Rees Mogg.

LucheroTena · 08/08/2018 08:36

Agree this is all copying Trump. He thinks that’s going to be his way to becoming PM.

The Tory party just keep making excuses for him. He’s their highest profile person, their one joker. ‘Man of the people BoJo the clown’. He’s a terrible politician, a man of no principle. It’s pathetic really. And I hate Burkas!

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 08/08/2018 08:38

He has often pissed of some in the Tory party they are more vocal than his supporters

But many will be supporting him as they know he is still a vote winner should be become leader which I still think is a possibility after Brexit

Cuppaorwine · 08/08/2018 08:38

No his comments were not racist. People mix racism up. You can’t be racist against a religion. Religion is a life style choice. A valid choice but a choice all the same. We must be absolutely free to critisise any religion and any cultural practise.

Race and gender are a given. Well gender was but in these crazy dangerous times that’s shifting.

longwayoff · 08/08/2018 08:39

Anyway. This must be the fault of Jeremy Corbyn surely? Everything else is.

Violetparis · 08/08/2018 08:40

He's ridiculing a small number of women for his own political gain. If he really was concerned about women being opressed he would have chosen his words more carefully.

LassWiADelicateAir · 08/08/2018 08:44

No you wouldn’t get far wearing a balaclava

But the reasons you want to are likely to be very different

The reasons are irrelevant. I assume you are suggesting wearing a balaclava might be for nefarious purposes but who is to say? Why is one and only one type of covering fine and all others aren't? A person might want to cover up bad scarring , skin disease , facial burns or the sort of ravagement facial cancer can cause- such people can't do so.

If one sort of full face covering is permitted then they all should be or none should be. I go for none- especially one which serves no purpose other than to hide women.

noblegiraffe · 08/08/2018 08:45

Just read in the Telegraph:

“Jacob Rees-Mogg, another Eurosceptic Tory MP, said: "It's hard to see what he should apologise for. He has defended people's right to wear the burka whilst saying it is an inelegant garment.”

Colour me surprised that Mogg is defending this Hmm, more jostling for position. Both men are intelligent enough to know the issue with comparing a group of people to bank robbers (and who that sort of thing will appeal to), but reckon there’s enough plausible deniability to get away with it.

Hopefully they’re wrong, but I suspect not. Theresa May has no control over that lot.

RedPanda2 · 08/08/2018 08:45

I think he should be thrown off a cliff

Nutkins24 · 08/08/2018 08:46

He should have been thrown out years ago.

Metoodear · 08/08/2018 08:50

And yet the anti semites stay put as if in the Labour Party with gorrla glue

Covering you whole face in the U.K. is not compatible with how we live

You cannot in the main work with just your eyes showing in any field

And what’s more disgraceful I am seeing more and more children wearing this garb it’s not required by Islam

And as I keep being told we don’t have absolute freedoms in the U.K. I can’t get naked and run round the U.K. it’s indecent and you shouldn’t be able to cover yourself to the point we’re people can’t I’d you
