WIBU to ask for more chips?

We were supposed to be having salad tonight for tea but I —accidentally— ate most of the baby plum tomatoes this morning, so my penance was to pick up a chippy tea on the way home. It wasn’t busy, only one person in being detected when I got there. I ordered a fish butty for DP and a chip butty for me (no kids). I paid £6 all together (live in Yorkshire) and this is all I got!!

The chippy is local, and usually much more generous than this.

Was I being unreasonable to drive back to the chippy, via the bloody temporary traffic lights to ask where the rest of my chips were?

I've never had a chip butty cos I'm not weird or a northerner. But it looks like a fairly decent amount to put in a sandwich, to me. Not as much as a full portion of chips, but why would it be?

AnExcellentUsername · 08/08/2018 20:33

About 98% percent of this thread have eaten one, but sure, you're not the weirdo...

GhoulWithADragonTattoo · 08/08/2018 20:34

Surely the sauce was tartar sauce not parsley?

luckycat007 · 08/08/2018 20:36

Anyone familiar with the fritter roll? They are fucking amazing with broon sauce. Not sure if we only have them in Scotland.

DiegoMadonna · 08/08/2018 20:38

I absolutely hate the word "portion" and you keep writing it!

What's wrong with the word portion?

About 98% percent of this thread have eaten one, but sure, you're not the weirdo

I'm sure it's more like 93%

caoraich · 08/08/2018 20:38

That is appalling

I'd expect at least double that amount in a standard chip roll, for maybe £2.

Butter looks a bit stingy too.

I do, however, live in Glasgow - Land of Heart Disease....

I go to Halifax quite a lot and have always been impressed with the quality of chippy teas there, definitely go to that side of the border next time!

caoraich · 08/08/2018 20:40

luckycat007
Absolutely joyful thing, a fritter roll. That and the white pudding.

DeepfriedPizza · 08/08/2018 20:47

It's not a fritter roll. It's a roll and fritter. Could also be a fritter supper Grin

KatyaZamolodchikova · 08/08/2018 20:48

@TinoTheArtisticMouse I will try The Singing Fryer on your recommendation. It’s not really on the way home, but I’ll make a detour. I’ll try convince DP we need a chippy tea next week too Grin

I’ll also try a Halifax chippy soon.

I have never been called a legend before, but I am very pleased with being a chip & bread legend!

In salad news, I bought more tomatoes today and have only eaten some of them this time, so looking good for salad tomorrow!

It's definitely a fritter roll.

Geepee71 · 08/08/2018 21:24

You deserve the accolade Katya 'chippy tea' legend Wink

Thesearepearls · 08/08/2018 21:27

I haven't RTFT but it is never unreasonable to ask for more chips

Maisymoo22 · 08/08/2018 21:31

A bit stingy. I’d have taken it back as well. Not enough to feed a sparrow!!!

Roll? bread cake? round here we call them baps!!! Grin

userxx · 08/08/2018 21:52

What's a fritter roll? No idea why but I'm liking the sound of it.

KoolAidPickle · 08/08/2018 22:26

I made a bacon butty for my Irish farmer pal a couple of weeks ago when he popped round to do a small job on our farm gate. He’d never heard of a bacon butty!!!

Irish farmers would be pretty weaned on bacon, so the only confusing bit might be the word "butty" as that is not a word many Irish would have heard of.

BettyG66 · 08/08/2018 22:45

Spent the first 30 years of my life in Yorkshire - have been down south for 22 years and when I see posts like this it makes me realise how I miss being up North and the friendly folk up there.

wood0032 · 08/08/2018 23:01

Frangipani, you Wigan by chance? Thought it was a pie barm?

Katya I’m West Yorkshire also (near Wakey) and round our way, any chipping serving that up would close in no time. That said, there generally is a shortage of chips in a butty compared to a normal portion IMO so if fling down this route, I’d get a bag of chips and a tea cake - that’s right folks, another name for a bread cake/roll or whatever you wanna call it!!

wood0032 · 08/08/2018 23:06

dairy take it you’re a bit posh then or a southerner? Tea is most definite an evening meal. Dinner is served around midday and supper is what you have just before bed. Chippy tea is what it is, it’s your evening meal bought from the chippy

AnExcellentUsername · 08/08/2018 23:07

I'd sell my soul for one of these just now. No wonder I'm a fat bastard.

nicslackey · 08/08/2018 23:09

Those chips look very pale to me! We like a sausage roll in a buttered bap here in Belfast. Maximum combo of fat and carbs!

caoraich · 08/08/2018 23:15

Just to let you all know, on the basis of this thread I sent my OH to the chip shop to procure me a chip roll.
However they told him they were all out of rolls. He told them it's for his pregnant wife and asked if they have anything else e.g. normal bread and the chip shop man was so apologetic he ran upstairs to his flat above the chip shop to get one of his own rolls.
They've gained a customer for life! Blush

cazzaG · 08/08/2018 23:19

I just can’t get over the people saying that is reasonable! She paid £3 per chip butty! It’s about 50p max for the bun so you obviously get a full portion of chips, eat the majority then close the remainder into your ‘butty’!!!

Shadow1986 · 08/08/2018 23:22

If you wanted lots of chips you should have asked for a portion of chips and not a chip butty? Or am I missing something! Next time ask for a portion of chips and a roll to make your own butty. I really want chips now!

KoolAidPickle · 08/08/2018 23:24

I just can’t get over the people saying that is reasonable! She paid £3 per chip butty

No she didn't.

byairmail · 08/08/2018 23:52

I think there is a difference between a chip butty (fewer chips) and a portion of chips with a buttered roll on the side, which is probably what you wanted. Which would have been cheaper? Or same price?
