A parking one (and no, IANBU)

Lazy morning, looked out of the front about 9.30ish to see a van parked partly over my drive.

I'm completely blocked in.

To add insult to injury, they're parked over the entire pavement and due to a deeds anomaly, I own that land too.

No idea where they are.

Sadly I have to go out at 3pm (not by car) so hoping I catch them before then!

Or maybe even penguin bollards

Grin

I would love that!

I’ve actually decided to see if I can install another drive in the space, so I’d have two in front of my house. That would give two dropped kerbs without any space for anyone to even attempt to park in.

I think using the space usefully is the way to go.

As if it was left there that long. And it's back! One of the neighbours must have something to do with it. Shocking.

This one?

That school run parking thread was hilarious, those CF’s really were cheeky!

Malbecfan · 08/08/2018 16:58

DF has CFs parking across the entrance to his flat all the time. The council helpfully painted a white line across the entrance but this is apparently not visible from large Mercedes saloons Wink. Nice neighbour puts notes on the cars, but the CF drivers just screw them up and throw them into the hedge.

Last week, one was seriously overhanging the line and entrance so DF decided on direct action. He applied a thick layer of grease to the underside of the handle of the drivers' door. The car has not since reappeared...

I wonder whether getting illegally parked cars moved counts as a resolved crime in the police figures? I know they do have targets, and perhaps if an officer can be spared to pay a friendly visit and get the problem sorted it counts positively in the stats? They are probably also conscious of nipping things in the bud if they possibly can, but, rather than having recorded acts of vandalism on their books. ( I do realise how busy the police are with serious crime btw, just wondering whether this counts as part of their community policing).

Could you turn it into a garden with some small trees on the road edge?

unababy · 08/08/2018 19:33

Something similar happened to me once, so I left a very polite note on their windscreen asking for their address so I could reciprocate and come and park across their drive sometime.

Mixedupmumma83 · 08/08/2018 19:41

So if they park on your property are you technically allowed to clamp them? I’d be putting up a sign warning anyone who parks there that their vehicle will be clamped and towed lol

JacquesHammer · 08/08/2018 19:42

Again I’d lose the space for me, I do like having it available for parking when I have visitors/deliveries etc.

That’s an interesting one actually. Would need to investigate as they were half on the road

School run thread - fantastic!

Enjoy! Grin

Has the trailer got a hitch lock on it. If not just undo it and abandon it somewhere. Phone 101, you may have an even better case as this vehicle has encroached on your property, almost the same as an intruder.

byairmail · 08/08/2018 23:59

OP your reasonableness is unsettling and very un-parking thready!

Feedthemachine1 · 09/08/2018 00:06

will always remember what happened with my ndn where i used to live a few years ago . a white van man parked across the front of his drive and the driver went off somewhere . ndn came out removed both number plates and reported it for being dumped . the police had it on a back of a lorry and gone within 15 minutes , still wonder to this day what the van driver did when he returned and if he ever got his van back

sunshinesupermum · 09/08/2018 10:08

Feedthmachine That's the best solution ever!

Hidillyho · 09/08/2018 10:48

I don’t think you are allowed to clamp cars anymore?

JacquesHammer · 09/08/2018 11:02

OP your reasonableness is unsettling and very un-parking thready!

I'd have been raging if I'd needed the car, there was very little I could have done really as I had to go out so it was pointless seething Grin

Interesting update this morning - I know who it belongs to!

The van arrived again this morning, drove to the bottom to turn around (I'm in a cul-de-sac) and as they were turning, ex-H arrived to pick up DD and pulled onto the spot.

Van driver pulled alongside and said "I was planning to park their mate" to which ex-H replied "oh right" and came into the house. He then stayed an extra few minutes and we all watched surreptitiously out of the upstairs window as he tried to park elsewhere Grin

So what's he doing/where's he going to in your street?

JacquesHammer · 09/08/2018 11:11

So what's he doing/where's he going to in your street?

He's going to the house opposite (they have a massive drive they choose not to use and several vehicles)

No idea what exactly he's doing as no work seems to be done but this morning he had "a lot of dowel" so who knows!

Space currently blocked with my bin

OP posts:
Thegirlinthefireplace · 09/08/2018 11:29

So he was planning to park across your drive again This Morning??

Flyme21 · 09/08/2018 11:37

Wasn't your DH supposed to reply "well, you can't park here because it's private and you'd block us in... again..."

LittleMe03 · 09/08/2018 11:37

Even more of a CF than before. You don't tell someone you were going to park where they have clearly already parked! You realise you've missed the spot and move on ShockGrin

Flyme21 · 09/08/2018 11:38

I mean, I don't quite understand why you're blocking the area with your bin instead of just going across the road to have a word with him. Why wouldn't you tell him he can't park there and point out that he illegally blocked you in before?

LittleMe03 · 09/08/2018 11:41

Wasn't your DH supposed to reply "well, you can't park here because it's private and you'd block us in... again..."

As it's her ex DH I'm presuming he didn't know the story at the time to have been able to say this
