To think schools shouldn't teach religion as absolute fact?

DSD is 6 and is learning about Christianity in school. They're teaching her Jesus is the Son of God rather than "some people believe he is". Everything about the religion is taught as fact. They've also failed to mention anything about any other religion.

AIBU to think they shouldn't be teaching it as absolute fact? How are children supposed to be understanding and tolerant of other people's beliefs if they're taught one world view as fact?

Atheism means to LACK BELIEF in God or gods. The A in front of theism means you are not a theist. And theism specifically means to believe in a deity of some description.

Atheism does not mean to know that there's no god or gods. If we wish to discuss knowledge, we use a/gnostic.

I know some Catholics would take a softer line than that, but at base you're asking them to put their faith in inverted commas when it's actually about redemption of the soul. You can't be surprised that they take it seriously!

YANBU. Last school my kids went to was a CofE academy. Christianity was rammed down their throats for the best part of two hours a day, but they also celebrated Diwali/Hanukkah and loaaaads of other festivals. My family are atheists, kids don't believe in god etc, and the teachers never taught religious stories as historical ac counts. The local vicar/reverand or whatever he is is a total cunt and used to humiliate the 'non -believers ' in assemb ly though.

Because Catholicism is a very easy and clear example of how a cult can steal money from millions of people and leave everyone poor and wallowing in shit while they built houses out of gold and commissioned bigger hats.

Maybe because catholics place guilt and shame on little babies and cast them into hell unless they say certain words (but priests raping said babies is fine)

By the way, you can’t compare the entire of Islam with Catholicism.

Catholicism is one (mainstream) sect of Christianity.

Islam is an entire religion.
