So your sister-in-law of 11 years ( never a cross word)is getting married and your husband is a usher and your daughter asked to be a flower girl so do you choose to come to your family’s important day or go to a friend’s wedding instead and stop your daughter being a bridesmaid?

OP posts:

although the other bride also sounds faintly ridiculous for not wanting ‘staggered arrivals’ so maybe there’s something in the water

I think it would be hard to know what the other bride is doing and thinking. It alls a bit she said he said.

True.

Your SIL is totally in the right. Your brother should not be an usher, should look after his daughter and be at your wedding from start to finish (unless he is also best friends with the groom).
You should have checked dates with immediate family before booking!

OP should actually read:

So your sister-in-law of 11 years (never a cross word) is getting married, and your husband is an usher and your daughter has asked to be a flower girl. But then you find out through your mother in law that they've booked the wedding already, and they didn't check if there was any dates you couldn't do before booking. You've already agreed to go to one of your best friends wedding. So do you chose to go to your family's important day (who obviously don't see you as that important as they didn't bother to check about dates or to even let you know their wedding date themselves), or go to your best friends wedding as previously planned, and let your husband's family sort out what to do about your daughter being a bridesmaid/flowergirl?
