Just curious. DH and I only ever drink wine or beer and that (or soft drinks) is what we offer guests. We buy only what we are likely to drink in a week. Maybe buy a couple of bottles of gin or vodka to enjoy over christmas holidays. Talking to colleagues though, it seems most of them maintain a fully-stocked "home bar" with a range of spirits, liquers etc available all year round. So I am wondering, are we the norm or are they? Do most people expect to be offered a wide selection of alcoholic drinks if they visit you?

Usually vodka, gin, whiskey, beer, wine and cider. Maybe mulled wine at Xmas and pinks occasionally in the summer.

itbemay · 03/08/2018 15:27

hardly anything. We don't drink during the week unless there is an occasion, and only drink at weekends if we are going out etc so we normally have the odd bottle of wine and a few beers knocking around.

Zcarter · 03/08/2018 15:27

Vodka, gin, rum, ammertto, southern comfort, port

TopShagger · 03/08/2018 15:27

I have a glass door cabinet thingy in the kitchen that has a few bottles of this and that in it. Gin, Vodka and Whisky. Oh and some of those mixer type things (sugar syrup?)

I drink beer and those live in the fridge. Only time I open that cabinet is to get a glass (they also live in there) or perhaps over Crimbo if people are over. Can't stand whisky and hardly touch vodka. I do like Gin but that bottle's been there since November untouched.

Darkstar4855 · 03/08/2018 15:29

Usually have vodka, gin, whisky and rum and I keep a few of those little cans of tonic water as well. Partner and I don’t usually drink spirits but I tend to buy it in duty free when we go abroad so we have it for friends and family when they come over.

I don’t think it’s necessary or that people should expect it but I like to have it to offer. My parents always did it so I probably just caught the habit from them!

TheStoic · 03/08/2018 15:29

None. I buy it and drink it as I want it.

Elphame · 03/08/2018 15:31

Pretty much everything actually......Blush

28holid · 03/08/2018 15:31

None. We don't drink.

DownAtFraggleRock · 03/08/2018 15:33

Beer and wine for drinking at the weekend, maybe gin in summer.

Vermouth and sherry for cooking (vermouth is an excellent white wine sub in cooking)

Gran Marnier, Amaretto, brandy, run and port at xmas. Some for cooking, some not... Grin

Amanduh · 03/08/2018 15:33

I’ve got a bar cart and usually has vodka, gin, various liquers, passoa, malibu, southern comfort, amaretto. Wine sometimes in fridge. Before we moved though, nothing unless we bought it specifically for a party/night out etc. If people come over they never expect alcohol, just tea/coffee or soft drinks unless it’s a party etc and they bring their own plus I offer ours.

Raffles1981 · 03/08/2018 15:33

We have a bottle of ginger wine and a bottle of peach schnapps - that's our odd tipple. Then we tend to buy a bottle of wine as we want one, which is not often. We always have a bottle of whiskey in the cupboard but that lasts a long time. We then buy a box of wine for Christmas.

ToadsforJustice · 03/08/2018 15:33

Gin - lots. Wine, beer, lager, Pimms, vodka, whiskey, rum, Southern Comfort, Bailey's and cider.

Yogafailure · 03/08/2018 15:34

Most things including cocktail making things like Chambord, bitters etc

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/08/2018 15:35

Loads of spirits, we have a special cupboard and a drinks cabinet for gin/whisky. Also always have white/red/fizz in. We don’t restock often though, lots of it has been there for ages.

Aprilsinparis · 03/08/2018 15:35

Vodka, wine, port and beer, and the occasional bottle of chocolate liqueur Thorntons or baileys, very moreish poured over chocolate ice-cream, in particular Ben & Jerry's Phish Food.

PurpleFlower1983 · 03/08/2018 15:35

We also have cocktail mixers.

timeisnotaline · 03/08/2018 15:35

Wine beer champagne whisky bourbOn gin bitters vermouth Cointreau Kahlua vodka Campari aperol is our basics and then we would have some other stuff sometimes i guess- pimms, pisco, liqueur, brandy, limoncello. Mmm I feel like a drink now!

Sweetcarrielynne · 03/08/2018 15:36

We have a fairly well stocked bar - always a few bottles of white, couple of red and a few of fizz. A range of craft beer types (DH has a subscription). Have 3/4 different kinds of gin, a couple of varieties of whisky, vodka, cointreau, chambord. Plus cocktaily bits like angastoura bitters, simple syrup and grenadine.

We aren't particularly big drinkers Grin we just like having a variety to offer guests when entertaining!

SewButtons · 03/08/2018 15:37

Wine (red/white) beer, cider, gin, rum, whiskey, pastis, sometimes a few fruity ciders and some prosecco/champagne.
We don’t drink that much but Have a few choices usually because DP doesn’t drink the same thing regularly and likes to have options.

GoneWishing · 03/08/2018 15:37

We don't KEEP anything we actually like, it seems. It all gets gradually consumed at a steady pace, so I don't get extra in usually, for the sake of our livers! I bought some fancy gins while we were away, and had the good intention of saving them for a special occasion, but they're gone now, too...

There is a lonely bottle of vodka on the shelves, though, which is a bit of an alcohol version of dwarf bread, I think.

3stonedown · 03/08/2018 15:37

We have a fully stocked bar pretty much. But I don't drink at all and DP doesn't drink at home. Most of them haven't been touched in at least 5 years so I wouldn't offer them to guests Blush. It's there purely because I'm lazy.

Redrunbluerun · 03/08/2018 15:38

We’ve got loads, not sure why as we don’t drink a great deal! We’ve got beer, wine, some champagne for special occasions. Loads of spirits (30ish bottles) collected over the years (duty free, Christmas etc) some nice single malts from when we lived in Scotland.
Occasionally when we have guests il rustle up a cocktail, but they mostly just sit there.

YeTalkShiteHen · 03/08/2018 15:38

I don’t drink and neither does DP so this list is going to seem ridiculous Grin

1 bottle of red wine for cooking
1 bottle of vintage whisky DP was given by a client who was happy with his work.
1 bottle of Dom Perignon given to me by the same client because he was worried I’d be annoyed DP was late home (no idea why, I’ve never met him and have never been annoyed about work hours!)
1 bottle of Dooleys toffee liqueur bought as a joke by friends because we’d all been hammered on Dooleys and Midori the night I got them together 15 years ago!

So for non drinkers we’ve got a fair stash Grin

boombamboom · 03/08/2018 15:39

I have some WKD, Apple Sourz, bottle of Champagne, Prosecco and whiskey.

Didn't buy any of it. All were given to us as gifts for Birthdays, Christmases, etc.

Hate Champagne and Prosecco.

DH is partial to the odd glass of whiskey but hasn't had any of his gift bottle for months.

I'm partial to WKD and Apple Sourz in a night out but haven't been on one since the Work Christmas do and I was pregnant anyway. Grin

We aren't really drinkers. Both DH and I would rather a soft drink. Will have alcohol on the occasional night out but those are rare as I hate the next day hangover.

Redglitter · 03/08/2018 15:39

I've got wine, Prosecco, cider, Bailey's, Gin & Bacardi
