She started on a massive stretch about me claiming PIP to "piss it up the wall", I obviously need the disposible income, etc, etc. It was really bitchy!

She's made catty comments in the past, but tbh I thought that was down to me- I have a weird sense of humor, and take the piss out of myself all the time. But never like this.

She said that, if I was independant enough to go out alone (I'll be meeting a friend, but eill be making my own way) I shouldn't be claiming Personal INDEPENDANCE Payment, and that "I'm what's wrong with the government atm!

I sent her a REALLY sarky text in reply, but it's made me doubt myself!

Re: parents jealous because a PP’s son has an iPad all to himself - many years ago and in a previous existence, I was an infant teacher. One of the children in my class had to take steroids (Fanconi’s Anaemia). He missed a lot of school due to stays in hospital, so was a little behind some of his peers. Whoever it was upthread that said about putting nice things in the food banks rather than basic stuff - that is a really lovely idea and I hope you don't mind if I steal that. I've been on the receiving end of some lovely strangers recently and I was looking for a way to pay it forward!

I do that with food banks, especially in January (I know it sounds daft but January is a crap month with few luxuries for most of us, worse for people who need food banks).

I swore that one day when I was in a position to I would, because I had so much help and support from people when I needed it.

Can I comment on the Food Bank things first? PLEASE put things like canned cake, rice pudding and custard in there? I had a food bank drive for my birthday (I have a house overflowing with crap and people struggle to buy for me...I did them a favor 😁). Also things like pet food. Not just cat/dog but the bags of gerbil food they sell? And- I know it sounds silly- food that can be "fun", like taco kits, cake making boxes, etc. If anyone needs some ideas I eill happily post more.

I love the tinned cake idea I hadn’t thought of that! I loved soup and a tinned cake as a “posh tea” when I was wee! Only as an adult did my Mum confess it was a “can’t be arsed need the little shits to eat and go to bed” tea

And the cake making boxes too! I’ll add them in next time. It sounds silly to most I think but I try and put things in that aren’t just basics, to make people feel like they’re worth a wee treat instead of being demoralised by the whole situation. Can we give toiletries to food banks? I have some lovely stuff which I can't use, Sanctuary mainly, but some Body Shop, and probably more (gifts). When our food bank opened (shock8ng that we need them in the 21st century in a WELFARE STATE ffs) they gave a list of what they would accept and it was very austere.

My DLA has stopped (I knew it would happen, knew I had to apply for PIP, so my fault it's got this far) but I am so scared of the process that I cry when I try to ring the number, so haven't done it yet. I have always felt guilty that I got DLA, and that I alone was responsible for the entire collapse of our economy.......

More food bank ideas:

Treats for kids such as advent calendars when it's coming up to Christmas, Easter eggs and creme eggs at Easter.

Sanitary protection especially the smaller stuff for teens.
