I remember one episode of ETTC where I think they were moving from somewhere close to Heathrow ie underneath a very busy flightpath and where shown a very nice house, but complained about the noise from the road. The camera zoomed in, and zoomed in and zoomed in a bit more across about 10 miles of fields to see a lone car going past.

That was before we even got to the moving from a 2 bed semi to wanting a 10 bedroom mansion with it's own stables and pool for £150k type thing

I shouted at the telly.

Sundialintheshade · 23/09/2018 13:09

@bridgetreilly Ah but the genius on Homes Under The Hammer is the soundtrack.

I swear that my ideal job would be choosing the music for HUTH. It's utter genius.

Jeippinghmip · 23/09/2018 13:33

The music is good on HUTH.

The wish list on ETTC is very often mind boggling. I’m especially amazed by very young couples who have a huge sum to spend and by older couples who keep complaining everything is too small, when being shown a mansion big enough for five families. It’s all part of the fun of ETTC.

beanaseireann · 23/09/2018 14:03

Bloobs
Olivia Coleman looks great in that clip.

Bloobs · 23/09/2018 14:16

She does!

LakieLady · 23/09/2018 14:29

Stations, if you can identify the house from that description, I think we must live in the same area! I can't get over the fact that it's got a tiny garden and it's unfenced, despite being right by a river. If I lived there, we'd have to stop serving alcohol, or most of our friends would have fallen in and floated off downstream.

I heard it was on the market, but haven't checked.

SwedishEdith · 23/09/2018 14:36

I love the one with Piers and the Clark Kent architect type where people have tiny budgets. I think they genuinely (naive?) try to help.

DrCoconut · 23/09/2018 14:39

I'm always Confused at these people with obscure jobs and huge budgets who can't find a house. And when they find them something and they say it's far too close to the neighbours/road/local facility when you'd virtually need a car to get there. "Oh no this will never do, only 7 bedrooms, 10 toilets, tennis court, swimming pool, paddock with stable and a mere 20 miles from the Manor House 'next door'. I could never cope with slumming it like that". Hmm.

tillytrotter1 · 23/09/2018 14:48

There was a silly property programme on a year ago where one half of a couple found the house and if the other liked it they got a cash sum, Love The House maybe. On one episode a woman wanted a house with a kitchen to match the colour of her favourite pan, she took it everywhere with her.

bridgetreilly · 23/09/2018 14:50

I love it when they want 'good transport links' but 'no road noise'. How exactly are they planning to get somewhere without any noise?!!

dingdongdigeridoo · 23/09/2018 15:14

I like the one where a family tries a week in Australia/NZ/other expat destinations to see what life would be like. It always shows them taking the kids to the park or going for a boat ride, then talking enthusiastically to the camera about how the move could bring them closer together as a family. Umm, you do realise you can do that stuff in the UK? Most of them have ambitious plans to start their own business so will be just as busy. And they’re always so disappointed that their budget won’t stretch to one of the big houses with pools they’ve seen on Neighbours. Do they not spend 5 minutes googling property prices before deciding to move thousands of miles away?

I think the retirees on these shows always want a big place because they plan to entertain or have the grandkids to stay. But it must be a pain in the arse to clean and run such a big place for the other 300 odd nights a year when it’s just the two of you. I have some older family members who live in a big county house that’s down tiny, muddy country roads, and I do wonder what they’ll do in 10 years or so when they might not be able to take care of the place, not to mention the driving issue.

Hanyu · 23/09/2018 15:20

I think sometimes the production team exaggerates the obscure jobs. There was a guy on Survivor who owned 4 art galleries, but they described him as "Coconut vendor" as it fitted in with the hippy personality they wanted to portray him as. I think he just had a hobby business he sometimes ran on the side which did involve selling coconuts among other things.

MNHQ removed my post saying "oh shit wrong thread" but not the actual post 🤦‍♀️

Buxtonstill · 23/09/2018 16:00

Please could someone link to the cdwm thread? I have searched, but it is probably not called cdwm! Thanks.

ShackUp · 23/09/2018 16:02

I used to work with Jasmine! She was on reception at a record company I worked at. One day she wasn't there because she'd got the presenting job.

Bottomofsmughill · 23/09/2018 16:02

Lakielady and Stations - I live near you too. Lots of locals objected to that house but I rather like it. Not sure I’d cope with the goldfish bowl lifestyle though- walkers would probably avoid gazing in to my mess I think!

Nondescriptname · 23/09/2018 16:17

Well, Martin, they've painted it beige and fitted a brown carpet. Every time!!!! Grin

I did see one HUTH where the young woman had originally planned to live in the flat herself, so decorated it to her taste, in ruby red, turquoise, black & mirrors.
It was such a refreshing change from all that beige.
She'd had no trouble finding a tenant, so they must have agreed.

Nondescriptname · 23/09/2018 16:22

Never mind, LydiaLunch7, it's entertaining. Grin

Somerville · 23/09/2018 16:33

There was a guy on Survivor who owned 4 art galleries, but they described him as "Coconut vendor"
The only coconut vendor I can think of in Survivor was Vince Sly. Did he actually own galleries? Survivor really didn’t need to exaggerate anything to portray him as loopy-hippy Grin

Harleypuppy · 23/09/2018 16:34

Hanyu I think so. Thank you so much for finding it. I wonder if the wife stayed with him? I couldn't get over him selling the family home without telling her.

StationsMostBodaciousCreation · 23/09/2018 17:18

lakie it was on the market a while ago, but not at the moment. Might do a bit more looking to see if it sold...

Notsohorriblehistory · 23/09/2018 17:23

The one in Amersham... I have been in. A friend’s house. Moved on now.
