Does anyone remember George Clark's first TV show, called the House Show or simalar? He himself was the architect/interior designer and scribbled the plans all over the walls..
The last one I saw went badly. He persuaded a middle aged man to up his budget, then ran out of money.. So the family ended up with a loft extension but the en-suite was a shell, and every room had expensive shutters. The man was devastated..

I think that was the last time he was the architect. Better to have someone else face the flak on TV.

I love Sarah Beaney. Where is she these days?!

Svalberg · 27/09/2018 22:59

Sarah Beeney can be found on Netflix

bridgetreilly · 28/09/2018 00:04

Oh, I've just remembered the one I really liked, Other People's Houses with Naomi Cleaver.

beanaseireann · 28/09/2018 07:39

3luckystars years before he became a tv star architect, Dermot Bannon was on Blind Date with Cilla Black.

On US Netflix there's a show called "buy herself" that's about single women buying their first property alone. It's set in Toronto.

There are a lot of young hopefuls thinking they can buy a downtown apartment with 2 beds, top of the range everything, but only have half the money they need. But there are also some more interesting ones, like women who are starting again after a divorce, or the Asian woman who hasn't yet told her parents she wants to move out.

The Property Brothers are genuinely a real estate agent and a contractor, there's an extensive Wikipedia entry on them...

I liked George Clarke until Ugly House, which just gave such a bad impression of architects that I'm really surprised he was ok with it.

I love A Place in the Sun.
I don't care whether the budget is £30,000 0r £300,000, I love seeing what they come up with and love it when they make a successful offer.
I really get annoyed when, having decided to make an offer, they offer far lower than their original stated budget and won't come up to anywhere near the asking price. Their usual argument is that work needs doing; no doubt the price has actually been set lower to factor that in.
APITS bingo: I can see myself sitting there with a glass of wine...

I found myself standing next to George Clarke at the baggage carousel at Edinburgh Airport a few weeks back. He was far from bloated - he looked and smelled AMAZING. I just about passed out when he smiled at me BlushGrin

Naomi Cleaver has popped up on the Big Build a couple of times. I love her interiors. Also Gabrielle Blackman's.

I love watching the Big Build because of the huge transformations (but far more realistic than Extreme Makeover) however I do miss the banter you would get from the regulars as you don't see so much of them now.

beanaseireann · 30/09/2018 09:31

I watch A Place In The Sun.
People, and their choices, are so different.
The most recent I watched had one couple looking for a place in Florida. They were shown a lovely apartment in the most amazing resort ( I deleted the programme and can't remember the name - doh!Hmm- in case I win the Lottery)) with fantastic facilities because the monthly charge was too high, but they were going to increase their budget by a £100,00 mortgage and continue their search. I couldn't understand their logic.
In the other episode a couple were spending £200,000 on a sh*tty farmhouse in the middle of nowhere in Portugal and were so happy about it.
Did anyone see the episode where a woman wanted to L buy a cave house in Spain ? ShockHmm

CoffeeShortbread · 30/09/2018 10:14

I like Naomi Cleaver too. Great voice, good presenting skills and her design style really appeals. Plus, I love her personal style.

Alleycat1 · 30/09/2018 10:25

I cannot abide George Clarke! On one programme he started off by painting the entire interior white, just a gimmick as no other architect/designer has ever felt the need or wasted a bit of the budget by doing this. Then he would invariably bust the budget and or leave bits unfinished. DH and I would almost throw things at the TV! Now we immediately change channels whenever his smarmy visage comes on. Thank goodness for Kevin McCloud.

beanaseireann · 30/09/2018 11:37

On the off chance somebody has access to episode 44 of A Place in the Sun Winter Sun, the fab place in Florida they turned down had great water/ pool facilities, brilliant for their grandchildren, but the management fee was over £600 pcm.
I didn't catch the name of the place. The couple were from Birmingham I think. Sadly I deleted the programme.
I'd love to get the name of the lovely resort please. I can't access the shows website here in Ireland to replay the show on All4.
Thanks in advance
