Sorry if there’s already a thread been reading the CDWM thread with interest...but would to know any secrets about locationx3
I would love to have a budget big enough to go on it one day but they all seem to have 500k at the age of 21 these days 🤔
Any secrets kirsty and Phil seem lovely I hope they are as nice in RL

Linda Barker’s house is very average. Not much design flair on show there, given her long career in design.

BewareOfDragons · 23/09/2018 11:18

I liked Phil until I saw photos of him on twitter hunting big game. The photo was him with his kill looking pleased as punch.

Oh, how incredibly disappointing. I have always enjoyed LLL, and the ridiculous budgets of the buyers ... now I can't watch! Angry

itwaseverthus · 23/09/2018 11:18

I totally agree Coffee The kitchen is a bit of a mess and the living room is very identikit glam style. I never liked her designs on Changing Rooms.

CoffeeShortbread · 23/09/2018 11:21

‘Big game’

British wildlife (deer, pheasants etc) are not ‘Big game’. Whatever your thoughts on hunting for sport, let’s not get confused as to what Phil is or isn’t hunting.

LydiaLunch7 · 23/09/2018 11:27

I miss grand designs too!

It's still going! They aired new shows last year and are probably filming more now. That was season 16 or something ridiculous like that! It's crazy seeing the older seasons now and realising how long it must have been going given how much younger Kevin was at the start!!

GrimDamnFanjo · 23/09/2018 11:30

Don't PhilnKirsty have their own off-camera property business together?
I once hard Kirsty speak at an event - she was great fun and was a bit dismissive of Phil's popularity with female viewers [in a kind of "he's my brother" way]
She also talked about how she only wears dresses apart from skiing and gave the name of where she buys [who only stock to size 14, putting to bed the catty remarks about her size from some quarters].

HeyNumber2 · 23/09/2018 11:34

I thoroughly enjoyed the couple who moved from Hertfordshire to The Cotswolds and had a long uncompromising list of whimsy including granny annex, “laundry room” (not utility room), this that and the other, all for about 5p. All options they were shown were met with wrinkled noses. Maybe it wasn’t Hertfordshire they were moving from, maybe it was Lala Land... Hmm Kirsty has had just about enough by the end of the episode!

FarrahMoan · 23/09/2018 11:39

I've just finished watching a series of The Great Interior Design Challenge which reminded me of Changing Rooms except you're getting an amateur designer with a point to prove! Too many of the rooms were hideous imo. One of the sub challenges was to make something interesting for the living room out of 5 house bricks?!

Bloobs · 23/09/2018 11:58

It's still going!

Oh! I think I just let things slide since becoming a single parent and now you have to find anything you want to watch by searching through apps and players, instead of knowing what day it's on. So my limited TV time just gets used up watching Bodyguard and things on Netflix.

However when I next have a chance I will track down Kevin's latest :)

They filmed an episode of Changing Rooms on my parent's road. Pretty dull episode (they both liked the outcome. Boo.) but my dad did nearly run LLB over as he crossed the road....

A friend had Grand Designs contact her as she'd bought a massive money-pit house. She declined as the filming obviously goes on for the length of the entire project & she felt it would've been too much. It's a shame as her actual renovation took over two years and was one of those what-could-go-wrong-did-go-wrong builds. Would've been a cracking episode...(it's fine now. And beautiful)

My fave quote of all time was from Grand Designs...was an older bloke where everything has spiralled out of control. When Kev asked if he thought it was a success at the end, bloke replied 'No. This was an ocean-going, fur-lined fuck up of epic proportions.' Grin

Bloobs · 23/09/2018 12:03

I feel this thread is deserving of a showing of

(Warning - a bit violent!)

Notsohorriblehistory · 23/09/2018 12:08

Any one remember that heart breaking Grand Designs.
Opening scenes were of family explaining plans then the next scene was that the man had been diagnosed with brain cancer and died a few weeks later. So the woman then did a much reduced build. It was utterly inspiring but so sad

BitchQueen90 · 23/09/2018 12:09

I hate Phil and Kirstie. Phil is a smarmy twat and Kirstie is irritating. They both seem like right snobs as well.

I like Homes Under the Hammer. Watching it right now. Grin

Hanyu · 23/09/2018 12:12

I remember that episode notso. The house ended up actually much better. It was quite practical and well thought out.

There was a GD with this Irish guy who bought a run down castle. He was way over ambitious, ran out of money halfway through and never got it finished. It just fell into disrepair in the end. I wonder if he’s still paying the mortgage.

Redgreencoverplant · 23/09/2018 12:12

I love ETTC but I always end up shouting at it as an older couple say they want their forever home and choose five bedrooms in the middle of nowhere with a spiral staircase with no bannister. No thought of bus routes in case they need to stop driving, easy access to a friendly community, hospitals etc.

ProseccoThyme · 23/09/2018 12:15

And most of these people "downsizing" are buying homes I could never afford to buy as a family home!

Bloobs · 23/09/2018 12:15

I love the auction ones where they buy a run-down shitpit and do it up so poorly that there's not much difference between the "before and after" shots. Then some spivvy rental agent comes in and says "I estimate you could rent this out for ... 42p a week" and they all look disappointed.

Aah takes me back to my maternity leave days when I used to watch all the property shows while BF on the sofa. Along with "Flog It" :o

Hanyu · 23/09/2018 12:16

Another early episode I never forgot was a chapel conversion. It was all open plan inside which must have cost a fortune to heat. These huge open staircases, even though the couple had young kids, tiny bedrooms even though there was a ton of empty space, and a playroom in the basement completely out of sight. Kevin was very derisive about it, the husband hated it and the architect looked really embarrassed.

beautyisthebeast · 23/09/2018 12:18

Me and dh applied. We had a phone call about it from a company and then asked to send a photo. Then heard nothing. Perhaps we didn’t fit their profile

Matildatoldsuchdreadfullies · 23/09/2018 12:21

I love ETTC. They all want a charming olde worlde cottage, and get taken to a stunning grade II listed building. They ooh and aar outside, then get into the house and look shocked that it's somewhat dark, with small window and low ceilings. Er, that's what 17th century country cottages are like. And no, you can't do a knock-through to make a bigger kitchen because it's listed.

Harleypuppy · 23/09/2018 12:31

It was a grand designs in the noughties, when the man was building a house with an inverted roof. He came home one day and told his wife and two dcs that he'd sold their house. 😱Didn't even mention to her that it was on the market! He was really erratic. One day he fell over on site and broke his ankle. He had to drag himself to the office to ring for help as no one else was there. The house didn't get finished, the roof was ruined because it got wet. I've tried looking online to find out what happened, but can't find anything.

theluckiest · 23/09/2018 12:34

I'm watching HUTH right now...and laughing because of something I read on here once:

I love it when they revisit after the refurb and Lucy or Martin say 'Let's have a look at what they've done.'

Well, Martin, they've painted it beige and fitted a brown carpet. Every time!!!!

SweetheartNeckline · 23/09/2018 12:39

There was an episode of LLL near here where a young couple wanted to live in a desirable, naice villagey part of the city. They'd actually got an ok budget and realistic expectations but P showed them "just 2 miles away for their budget they can get a large 3 bed semi..." Yes Phil and drug paraphernalia in the garden.

On HUTH they described a run down part of our suburb as "commanding great views over the city and with a great community feel", I guess it's all in the eye of the beholder but there is a reason why you can get a 3 bed family home for £80, 000 even in the Midlands.

bridgetreilly · 23/09/2018 13:04

Ah but the genius on Homes Under The Hammer is the soundtrack.
