Condoms in online grocery ‘favourites’ - AIBU to think DP is cheating?

ParanoidOrSunburnt · 01/08/2018 21:25

I’ve just done our online shop and while browsing ‘favourites’ there was a Durex multipack!m on the list! I recognise all the other products in the favourites list apart from one type of men’s deodorant.

Both were ‘sponsored’ items so maybe I’m being paranoid?! But condoms are an unusual item to try and sell us as we - or should that be I?! - haven’t bought any for a few years!!!

AIBU to think that DP is blatantly cheating?!

That reminds me, must do my online shopping.
Thanks OP.

SinkGirl · 01/08/2018 21:53

Haven’t used Tesco for a while but Waitrose / Ocado both show you a list of things on offer they’re trying to promote - totally unrelated to what I’ve bought.

ParanoidOrSunburnt · 01/08/2018 21:55

I really hope I am BU. Honestly there’s loads of items on the list and that the only one I don’t recognise (apart from the deodorant). I’ve had bugger all sleep which isn’t helping.

I’ll tell you what, if the mumsnet voice says I am BU, I’ll be sending a ‘constructive’ email to Tesco ha ha!

I think it means someone could have bought them with your clubcard doesn't it ? I only shop with Tesco And sometimes it will add random stuff that I've popped into the shop to get onto my online favourites . I would ask him though, he is a bit thick if he did use his clubcard though!!

Faez · 01/08/2018 21:58

can you get a record of previous receipts associated with the clubcard?

NewYearNewMe18 · 01/08/2018 21:59

I would complain about this to Tesco for the very simple reason, you aren't in an abusive relationship, but other people are. all you need is someone a bit handy with the fists, seeing this and beating his/her partner into a pulp. This is ridiculous marketing that could cause massive problems in a relationship.

Tobebythesea · 01/08/2018 21:59

On my Tesco favourites it has never included something I haven’t purchased either online or instore. I would be cautious too. Sorry OP.

Thehop · 01/08/2018 22:00

As above, look up previous receipts with your club card account

ParanoidOrSunburnt · 01/08/2018 22:01

Ethylred - you’re welcome!

My favourites includes items bought in store if I have used my club card. If someone went in to buy just a pack of condoms I don’t think they would think to use their club Card? I know I wouldn’t (I only use it if I spend more than £10). Still seems odd though, all the tings on my favourites are items I have bought. Could he have bought them for a friend? Used his card on someone else’s shopping?

creddo · 01/08/2018 22:03

I've just checked my Tesco account and under Favourites it states 'Items purchased online or instore during the last 13 months,'

Not very reassuring I'm afraid OP.

Applesandpears23 · 01/08/2018 22:03

My favourites include dog food. I don’t have a dog. Sometimes weird stuff happens. Do you have any other cause for concern?

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 01/08/2018 22:04

Think about it rationally. he was cheating. Would he be as stupid as to put them on a shopping list that you could see.
Talk about blowing yourself out the water if has done.
Could get have clicked on them accidentally.

Chickoletta · 01/08/2018 22:04

Sorry OP but my online favourites with Tesco online only includes things that we've bought either online or in store with our Clubcards. Those people who are saying that you are jumping to ridiculous conclusions obviously don't shop with Tesco!

It may still be entirely innocent but you need to have a conversation with him.

ParanoidOrSunburnt · 01/08/2018 22:04

Faez and thehop - can you do that? Oh shit, then I’d feel like a proper paranoid! :-s but like bythesea said it’s inky usually items you’ve bought that show up in favourites. Maybe Tesco have changed their marketing practices?!

Butterflykissess · 01/08/2018 22:05

I always do online shop with tescos once a week. My favourites are never things I havent bought! all things on there are stuff I buy online or in store.

Quartz2208 · 01/08/2018 22:05

If its tescos though some categories are such you simply have to had bought it once and its there to make up the numbers

I just looked at my tesco favourites and one of them is almonds - I hate almonds and can not remember DH buying any either. Another favourite in home is a thermos flask DH bought in store once. Once and its in a favourite because that is the only item of that category we have bought

kaytee87 · 01/08/2018 22:05

I'd see if you can get a list of items bought with your club card. Call Tesco

TheLionRoars1110 · 01/08/2018 22:07

Ive just done a Tesco shop and the conforms popped up on mine. I've never bought condoms from them.

TheLionRoars1110 · 01/08/2018 22:07

*condoms!!!

ParanoidOrSunburnt · 01/08/2018 22:07

Sorry for the typos! Corrected version...

Faez and thehop - can you check previous receipts? Oh shit, then I’d feel like proper paranoid! :-s but like other posters have said it’s usually only items you’ve bought that show up in favourites. Maybe Tesco have changed their marketing practices?!

Barbaro · 01/08/2018 22:09

I'm sure tesco stores favourites for longer than they say, as there are items on my favourites that I know I haven't bought in years yet are still there.

But I've never seen stuff on it that I haven't bought. I would mention it to him and see how he reacts.

ParanoidOrSunburnt · 01/08/2018 22:09

TheLionRoars - really?! That’s amazing!!! I was seriously getting worried there... honestly, what are Tesco thinking?!

What a bizarre thread. Sponsored products clearly mean just that, it’s an advert. But if your husband was cheating he’d have to be pretty idiotic to buy condoms in the family shop - or anywhere else online. Plus you can target people these days based on behaviours that are private (I work in advertising) so this isn’t based on history.

Ocado are always suggesting cat litter to me and I don’t worry my husband has a secret cat I don’t know about.

areyouactuallykidding · 01/08/2018 22:10
