To be unsurprised that Corbyn is still being called anti-semitic?

Corbyn has been quite happy over the years to work with those who are clearly anti-Semitic. And he continues to do so. Whilst at the same time saying that he condemns all forms of racism, recently changed to say he condemns anti semitism. Does he not realise yet that people judge him by his actions, not his broad statements which are pretty meaningless? And until he clearly shows in his actions that he condemns anti semitism, these allegations will continue?

White supremacist and former KKK "grand wizard", David Duke, is apparently a big fan of Corbyn. I am sure he's simply anti-Zionist though, not a dangerous Jew-hating Nazi!

However, I am getting a bit fed up with all the column inches devoted to anti-Semitism in the Labour party. I think it's a serious issue and they need to get a grip on it, but it certainly isn't more serious than the fact that, for example, local councils are saying they won't be able to safeguard children due to funding cuts, the DWP has been forced to pay compensation to cancer patients and disabled people because of the conditions they were left in due to the fuck-ups in UC etc, not to mention the shit-show that is Brexit. The media needs to get it's objectivity over news reporting sorted.*

This lies in Labour's hands. Corbyn has gone AWOL then decides he wants to do a speech in a Jewish location on a Friday and wonders why everywhere says no!?

The hashtag last night was extremely scary with quite extreme views including anti semitism being spouted, in support of him. It is showing all signs of being a cult.

Blame the press all you want but Labour could stop it. They are choosing not to.

Should read as...

Sorry that you are 'a bit fed up' about column inches but imagine how the Jewish community feel.

I am currently in remission for cancer and disabled so am fully aware of all the other issues you have highlighted.

OyWithThePoodles · 03/08/2018 10:16

How was that hashtag 'scary'? What views did you find 'extreme'? When does a movement become a 'cult'?

I'm asking because I was seeing some of it on my feed this morning and really didn't see anything other than reasonable, kindly, supportive tweets from normal, left-leaning folk - the odd big name, but mainly just ordinary people saying they're behind him. How is that scary, extreme or cultish?

:-D It's one person. And yes, I'm sure there are others who are a little ... passionate ... but there always are, every thread, every hashtag, every below the line ... that's the internet for you.

There are strange posts on Mumsnet all the time, it doesn't mean all Mumsnetters are strange?

Obviously the people you follow and the things you like push things to the top of your Twitter feed, I didn't dig that deep ... I'm just taking issue with scary, extreme, strange. That wasn't my experience of that hashtag so I was curious.

Metoodear · 03/08/2018 10:38

. And why won't the Labour party adopt the internationally recognised IHRA definition of anti-Semitism?
This

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 03/08/2018 10:38

Edwina Curry she was a source of much amusement and deride when she was in the public eye

Her own actions and Spitting Image saw to that

Her affair with Major wasn’t known about until years later and most were shocked as we just didn’t think Major had it in him Shock

Seasawride · 03/08/2018 10:47

i didn’t dig that deep

Well maybe you should!

Seasawride · 03/08/2018 10:50

And just because youare not scared that’s ok then. Fuck the Jewish posters on this thread and up and down the country who tell you they are.

Still typical Corbyn worshipper. See no evil. Hear no evil but can’t mansge the other one.

Seasawride · 03/08/2018 10:52

Why don’t they bring back spitting image??

My funniest memories. Maggie and the vegetables/ the 2 David’s/ John and Norma’s peas/

Can you imagine the fun they would have had with Ed, Tony, May and Corbyn. Grin

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 03/08/2018 10:52

I would like David Miliband to return

But it would have to be after Brexit he hasn’t been in the country for sometime now to come along with a plan to stop Brexit which he is openly opposed to would alienate many Labour voters or floating voters (they are always needed to get into power) who voted leave

So David Duke supports Jeremy Grin Grin Grin I bet a statement will be made about this soon enough

OyWithThePoodles · 03/08/2018 11:04

Well, thanks for the advice Sea! Thousands upon thousands of tweets on there - it was trending worldwide? Ten minutes' scrolling - a few people whose views I would disagree with (obviously), a few people using the hasthtag to drag him and his supporters. But mainly, as I said already, a vast majority of sensible kindly folks tweeting solidarity, and nothing to fear .

Seasawride · 03/08/2018 11:10

nothing to fear here

Well that’s ok then.

Think you would have heard similar from most racists. It is ok for them.

it was trending world wide

Corbyn has to convince the general British public to vote momentum. Not just his little worshippers here or equally racist mysogynistic dissident groups world wide.

Seasawride · 03/08/2018 11:12

By the way I am not calling you racist but it’s ludicrous to suggest there isn’t a major problem of both mysogyny and anti semitism within momentum. I don’t call them labour because they are not.

Justanotherlurker · 03/08/2018 11:12

it was trending world wide

Irrelevant, twitter trending is not conclusive and means nothing in the wider circle.

Also remember what helps things trend worldwide, bots.

EnthusiasmIsDisturbed · 03/08/2018 11:22

Spitting Image was brilliant I think of Major as being grey 😖 would love to see it back so much is going on so many characters to work with

Dead Ringers is very funny Farage meeting his long lost twin Trump Grin is hilarious

OyWithThePoodles · 03/08/2018 11:31

Cheers, Sea - lovely response, thanks!

I'm not a 'typical Corbyn-worshipper' (although tbf I don't even know what that is ...) and I'm not disregarding the views of any previous posters - they're entitled to those opinions. Literally, all I'm saying on this thread, in response to the claim that that hashtag was 'scary', is that I FOUND IT TO BE a friendly hashtag, with (mainly; it is the internet after all) sensible, supportive tweets from people of many, many backgrounds. Other people have found differently - and that's fine. That's what discussion boards are about or what's the point?

user1471450935 · 03/08/2018 11:48

The whole of this countries politic set up is in disarray at the moment.
Why?
Brexit,
Official line of both main parties before the referendum vote in 2016, was to stay in EU, and the single market and CU.
66% of labour voters voted remain, 66% of Labour constituencies voted leave. The Tory party are more divided then in Major's time.
The only true brexit for either side is a true hard split.
But everyone knows that will stop Britain's economy dead.
Vacuums need filling, law of physics, CSE level though, and right down we have a massive one. Brexit talks failing, all domestic subjects on permanent hold, nothing to fill papers.

It is the government and the press trying to hide the shitstorm on the horizon, helped by their friends. No one with any brain right now wants to be PM. We are truly in no mans land.

I honestly think if the only worry for the majority of posters on here is if Corbyn is anti-semetic, well the media are doing a great job.
Why aren't you complaining Northampton CC is bankrupt, schools are going bust, hospitals and social care collapsing, the head of NHS admitting we may not have supplies of insulin and radioactive drugs.
Our police force's not having enough staff to answer 999 calls and no resources to response to them.

Sorry but this whole thread is what about over there, or look up there is that a pig. You are all fiddling about whilst the UK burns, and our kids and future generations will truly sit and think FGS, they argued about Corbyn, whilst all around was slashed and burnt.

Seasawride · 03/08/2018 11:53

oy

Totally and you have an absolute right to your opinion that everything in momentum is rosy. No racism or mysogynistic view. Self ID all fine, the KKK supporting you again all fine. Nothing to see here move along please Hmm

Trending world wide simply means the echo chamber of momentum is echoing. Again that’s fine until the next election when momentum is wiped out, hopefully, and labour can re emerge with a sensible credible electable leader and ‘take back control’ of our party.

Enthusiasm

It was hilarious wasn’t it. I think the major being so grey and boring was what made the revelation of his fancy for curry so astounding . Grin I remember my mum saying ‘what him!!! An affair..’Smile

Seasawride · 03/08/2018 11:59

user

Do you really not get the term whataboutary?

sorry this whole thread is what about over there

Honestly that’s got to be the funniest line of your rant. You post about everything butantisemitism in momentum, on a thread all about antisemitism and Corbyn, except to say you don’t really care about that anyway.

Do you not really understand how hilarious that is?

Justanotherlurker · 03/08/2018 12:03

I honestly think if the only worry for the majority of posters on here is if Corbyn is anti-semetic, well the media are doing a great job.

It's not the main worry though, its just one more of many

I'm not sure you have a handle on the on term whataboutry, especially considering the paragraph previous to the one I have just highlighted.

bananafish81 · 03/08/2018 12:05

I may have missed them, but can't recall any responses to Bingpot excellent post:

To all of Corbyn's cheerleaders, I have to ask: when Jewish communities and individuals and MPs are speaking out about how they feel about antisemitism under Corbyn, and you deny he is racist, what are you saying?
A) jews are lying
B) Jews don't understand what antisemitism is
C) Jews are making a fuss over nothing and have nothing to fear because you say so?

I'd truly like to know your answer. Because the answer shouldn't be to soapbox about how wonderful Corbyn is about fighting other forms of racism, your answer should be why do Jewish people feel this way and what can be done about it? Unless of course there's another answer.

SillySallySingsSongs · 03/08/2018 12:12

User you seriously don't see your irony?

You seem to think people can't be worried/speak etc about all that and still be worried about anti semitism?

You seem to be be in a veiled way that Jews should shut up and go away. Well you may have your wish. I know a few that are planning om leaving the country. People really are that concerned. Stop dismissing it.
