To be unsurprised that Corbyn is still being called anti-semitic?

crunchymint · 01/08/2018 14:59

Corbyn has been quite happy over the years to work with those who are clearly anti-Semitic. And he continues to do so. Whilst at the same time saying that he condemns all forms of racism, recently changed to say he condemns anti semitism. Does he not realise yet that people judge him by his actions, not his broad statements which are pretty meaningless? And until he clearly shows in his actions that he condemns anti semitism, these allegations will continue?

Yes it is awful that I don't think the members would elect a woman as Leader of the party.

Seasawride · 02/08/2018 00:04

They were out of office for a decade

Omfg you actually said that! of course they fucking were because labour had a strong credible electable leader in blaire

But we get it you hate him!

You choose an unelectable non credible bumbling idiot and we will be out of office until he’s gone.

Oh the irony

crunchymint · 02/08/2018 00:05

Labour have gone back to the 80s and chosen a leader who will never be elected.

love that Corbyn scares the right wing establishment

Sweetheart honestly he’s the gift that keeps on giving to the right wing establishment.

Please tell us why you can’t see that. Do you remember Foot? I suspect not. Google it.

crunchymint · 02/08/2018 00:11

I would love Labour to have a Leader that scares the right wing establishment, absolutely love it. But Corbyn is not it. He isn't even someone I can support as principled but unelectable. He is literally the worst of both worlds.
And meanwhile the poor keep getting poorer. Its shit and we NEED a decent labour leader.

Seasawride · 02/08/2018 00:18

Agree op.

I wish in a way the MPs who resigned had started another Labour Party. Maybe the democratic Labour Party? And the old communists raping labour would have been wiped out at the last election. I think it’s not too late.

Jeremy is a wounded dog now. He’s failed in all areas and lost the students and their parents votes over the tuition bollocks.

The MPs just need to go for it now otherwise the Tories will reign supreme because as lurker says JC will just be replaced by another communist

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 02/08/2018 00:54

Tbf May has also lost the parents vote through refunding of schools, Sen funding changes and changes in universal free school meals proposed changes and changes to free school meals.

Seasawride · 02/08/2018 09:38

Tomorrow

Accept that but I don’t think those policies, mean as they are, have the same impact as tuition fees. Free school meals affects some where as tuition fees affects millions of students and more importantly their parents.

I think that policy promise was a massive failure for Corbyn, look what it did to Clegg.

He’s lost that generation of students and their parents now for good.

longwayoff · 02/08/2018 09:48

I cant read the whole thread but I can imagine it. Yes he, is, No he isnt. I'm very sad to see Labour repeating what it failed to learn in the 1980s and galloping towards SDP2. Only the Tories gain from this, the party with a long history of anti semitism itself, and looking at the Moseley supporting Daily Mail now having apparently reversed completely is bizarre. Its all extremely depressing.

Seasawride · 02/08/2018 09:56

longwayoff

Yes that’s the gist with the majority of posters despairing at what’s happening to labour. Very very depressing

samG76 · 02/08/2018 09:59

"anarchist, Communist tradition"

The Wizard - are you a sociology student, by any chance? You do know that the Communists weren't and aren't very pro Jewish, don't you? I didn't say the Corbynites aren't proper Jews, but that very few of them are part of the Jewish community.

MrsAidanTurner · 02/08/2018 10:02

I just can't see anyone in labour I would vote for.

Chuka is way out of touch, too much like Blair, smug and patronising.

The whole corbyn cabal needs to go, who does that leave? Emily Thornberry, no...

Bombardier25966 · 02/08/2018 10:05

I'm loving the hand wringing "oh my goodness what is happening to the Labour I loved?" from crunchy. It's quite clear that you've never been a Labour supporter, and your activism stretches to a bit of internet ranting.

And as for potential female leaders, Emily Thornberry is a strong candidate, and in years to come Laura Pidcock and Angela Rayner. But don't let facts get in the way of your faux concern!

Bombardier25966 · 02/08/2018 10:09

I think that policy promise was a massive failure for Corbyn, look what it did to Clegg.

He’s lost that generation of students and their parents now for good.

Clegg introduced higher tuition fees. Corbyn has pledged to abolish them, completely the opposite. He can't do that yet because he's not yet in power. Those intelligent enough to go to university understand that. His support amongst young people is still high. Comparing the two is absolutely nonsensical.

But then you're still trying to get your head around a Jewish person speaking out against Israel. Don't worry, you'll catch up soon Wink

MrsAidanTurner · 02/08/2018 10:12

I never assumed ghost was pro corbyn because ghost is on every brexit thread and corbyn loves brexit.

MrsAidanTurner · 02/08/2018 10:14

Activism???! Confused

Is activism the badge of true Labour supporters now?

SillySallySingsSongs · 02/08/2018 10:15

It's quite clear that you've never been a Labour supporter, and your activism stretches to a bit of internet ranting.

Know them personally do you?

MrsAidanTurner · 02/08/2018 10:16

crunchy the Poor will keep getting poorer no matter who is in government, the gap grew under the last long labour government.

Tomorrowillbeachicken · 02/08/2018 10:22

I’m trying to work out the finances of abolishing them tbh as the money just isn’t there. The honest truth is that he can promise the moon as the likelihood is that he will never have to deliver.

As for the school funding over the long term that and the sen funding crisis will affect a lot more people overall including teachers, most/all children aged 4-18, their parents and all the professionals that are attached to the schools like paediatricians, speech therapists, play workers etc.

user1471450935 · 02/08/2018 10:24

I don't think many on here are true labour supporters or understand much about left wing ideals. Many of the likes of crunchymint, are Blairites and centralists.
God in the 1970's it was the unions who fought for women's right to equal pay, I believe one Barbara Castle was a prominent leader, hardly right wing. Also it fell mainly to the unions to get fair pay for part time workers, pension rights and holiday pay, all things which effect mainly women.

Supporting the IRA, is a bit pathetic insult, seeing we now know British governments of red and blue, happily gave information to unionists which lead to the deaths of innocent catholics and covered up "Bloody Sunday"

Corbyn is different, look at todays papers, the Mail, Telegraph, Sun all Tory rags, leading on it. But none gave a shit above the London Mayor been tweeted about doing a "Cameron" with a pig. Double standards.

Finally thanks for deleting my true comments about my in laws, its my SIL who isn't spoken to, but I notice 1000's of worse comments are said about Muslims and other faiths on here daily, plus about Trans and Disable people too. Personally I couldn't care less, I treat people has I find them, most of all creeds are brilliant, some are racist.

crunchymint · 02/08/2018 10:26

I know there are Jewish people who are not Zionists. That is fine. I am a big fan of Dworkin and agree with her assessment of Israel and Zionism, so I am not pro Israel or Zionism, contrary to what you seem to have decided.
But I along with others understand that we have a responsibility to speak out when people are racist or anti semitic in our presence. Corbyn does not do this. This really is anti racism 101.
And love how the response is just to throw slurs when you actually have no idea who I am or what I do.

OP posts:
crunchymint · 02/08/2018 10:33

user Wrong. That is the usual thing to call those who criticise Corbyn Blairites or Centralists. I am actually far more left wing than Corbyn. But I understand that a political party has to get elected. Otherwise there is no point.

And don't make me laugh arguing that it was the unions who fought for women. There were some trade union officials who did so. But many unions were arguing for a wage for a man that could support a family. And even more recently under the equal pay deals in Local Government, trade unions colluded in ensuring women who were illegally paid lower than men got no compensation. I have been very active in the trade union movement, totally support it, but am under no illusions about it.

I can understand young people new to left wing politics and activism being big Corbyn supporters. I suspect I would have been when younger. But I did not have a good enough unerstanding of oppression and class analysis then to understand that Corbyn does not have this either, and instead supports whatever trendy left wing cause is the flavour of the moment.

Tuition Fees
Corbyn, said he would abolish fees for new students, ie my son going in September. So from September 2018 or 19, we would have returned to free university education, funnily enough like most other European country.
If any one followed the Democratic Party nominee race, the reason Bernie Sanders, did so well, was his pledge to reduce university/college costs to the poor/average family.

Labour never promised to wipe out existing debt, it said it would look at it.
Typical middle class hypocrisy on here, I bet most of the posters on here got their degrees for free, and that's why they can afford to vote Tory, with their high salaries and private schools fees.
Whilst it working class families who have to not only encourage kids to see past £27000, but somehow find another £4500 to subside them through each year (Ds gets a job)

samG76 · 02/08/2018 10:40

user1471 - I think it was the tone of your comments that got them deleted. The point about defending rapists was especially objectionable. Barristers operate the cab rank rule - they defend whoever they are given. So unless his defence was that the 8 year old was a hussy who led the defendant on, there is nothing to criticise at all. Thank heaven that there are people who take on this sort of work, or there would be even more miscarriages of justice than there already are....

Justanotherlurker · 02/08/2018 10:41

Corbyn is different, look at todays papers, the Mail, Telegraph, Sun all Tory rags, leading on it. But none gave a shit above the London Mayor been tweeted about doing a "Cameron" with a pig. Double standards.

I think is shows your double standards more here are, tbh. One person writing something in a book is comparable to Corbyn and Momentum admitting that they have a problem with pockets of Anti Semitism is somehow comparable.

Also you have glossed over the Guardian and Mirror reporting on the current anti semitism situation.
