He got it a few weeks back and he's washed it, polished it or vac it daily, on Sunday he spent over four hours cleaning it. I haven't seen him driving it yet & it's parked in his garage all the time.
He's late 30's married to a horrible woman (to us anyway) has two children & works.

What the Hell makes someone love their car so much. It's a piece of metal.

I last washed mine a few years back & it resembles a dustbin inside.

TBH it sounds like me. I spend a lot of time in my car and my boss was kind enough to provide me with a shiny, posh motor and I take bloody good care of it. My DH is houseproud and spends Saturday doing the house top to bottom whilst I take a baby toothbrush to my alloys. Horses for courses and all that Wink

LookAtIt · 31/07/2018 20:02

😂. Rather than being embarrassed maybe we should all be proud to have found things that we enjoy be it car cleaning, watching Love Island or trimming the odd star leaf on a hedge.

DrWhy · 31/07/2018 20:03

I find it really odd that Mumsnet is full of people who bleach doorframes, wash bed linen and towels daily and are obsessed with zoflora but who find it odd to want to keep a car clean and shiny. Surely it's a reasonable to want to keep your car looking nice as it is your house?

beanaseireann · 31/07/2018 20:59

Have you no hose pipe ban in your area so ?

ragged · 31/07/2018 21:04

This thread is inspiring me, I really want to wash my car this weekend (water butts are all full at moment!).

My house is a tip. But I like to look after the car.

Goth237 · 31/07/2018 21:33

Firstly, so what? He loves his car. People love different things, like collecting thimbles.
Secondly, probably mid-life crisis. But again, who cares?

footballwidower · 31/07/2018 23:22

You say he's always cleaning the car

His wife is horrid

There's the connection and reason for all the washing lol

WeBuiltThisBuffetOnSausageRoll · 31/07/2018 23:23

If you'd been a contestant on 3-2-1 and won the shiny brand new car, it would now be worth absolutely nothing.

If, however, you'd won the (admittedly cool, robotic) dustbin, it'd be worth a fortune now.

So I think, in theory, playing the long-game, you win.

[possibly missing the point of the thread]

exaltedwombat · 01/08/2018 17:27

It's a honeymoon. Only once a day?

LavendarLove · 01/08/2018 17:51

It's amazing what pisses people off these days, I'd rather see nice clean cars in my street and not scruffy bin types. My hubby takes pride in his car and I would hope so as it cost us over 40k

bengalcat · 01/08/2018 18:09

Lol as you say his wife 'is horrid' guess he'd rather be in the garage

ThisMightAlsoInterestYou · 01/08/2018 18:10

Ask him to wash yours too OP. It's obviously his bag.

pandabear1 · 01/08/2018 18:12

Married to a horrible woman? That's why the car is his love. I have one next door who works away 4 days a week - the other 3 days he spends on his ride on mower - keeps them away from the bitches they married I suppose.

Kc1009 · 01/08/2018 18:29

Oh dear looks like I'm on the sad camp here. Bought a new car had it two weeks and I wash it every weekend, my car is important to me I have two younger children and a husband lol. He is always out washing our cars. We keep them in prestine condition. I have spent a lot of money of my car. 1 of only 151 in the country. I will always spend lots of time making sure it's clean. I dnt do it everyday. I do walk round check no bird has decided to crap on it. Every evening. Their shit does so much damage to paint work. Then it gets washed every sat/sun depending on what I do with car/kids that weekend.

Liketoshop · 01/08/2018 18:34

You must live opposite my holiday buddy as he washed his black beemer all the time as it's his pride and joy. Simple pleasures and expensive hobbies = bachelor lifestyle

babyno5 · 01/08/2018 18:36

Haha I’m with PeppaP he’s escaping the wife!
Guy across the road from us has his wife cleaning their car and she’s doesn’t even drive 😂😂

recklessruby · 01/08/2018 18:37

How can someone love a piece of metal so much? As I said to dd (horrible 17 year old at the time) the car doesn't shout at me or argue and it's my escape from you! Maybe he feels like that about his wife😊 but I do love cleaning my car and making it shiny and smell nice inside. It burns a lot of calories too!

TakeMeToKernow · 01/08/2018 18:40

Omg. You could be describing my OH (in his former life). He loves his cars. Couldn’t bear his ExW. Told me he even used to wash it in the dark.

I’m very relived that he now washes his car about once every other month.

DagenhamRoundhouse · 01/08/2018 18:41

Maybe cos it gets him away from his wife for an hour or two!

holasoydora · 01/08/2018 18:42

I am married to a petrolhead clean car freak BMW lover. I don't get it either but it makes him happy? It's not hurting anyone else!

blueberriesandyogurt · 01/08/2018 18:43

My first car was 20 years old brought from a distant relative. Every time he drove it, he washed it thoroughly before parking it in his garage. It was in fantastic condition until I'd had it for a while

chindwara1 · 01/08/2018 18:46

Masturbation!

chindwara1 · 01/08/2018 18:48

Why such a cheap car?

Lulu1919 · 01/08/2018 18:55

Juniper I agree !

Smudge100 · 01/08/2018 18:55

It‘s his penis extension. Feel sorry for him and glad you have better priorities. .
