He got it a few weeks back and he's washed it, polished it or vac it daily, on Sunday he spent over four hours cleaning it. I haven't seen him driving it yet & it's parked in his garage all the time.
He's late 30's married to a horrible woman (to us anyway) has two children & works.

What the Hell makes someone love their car so much. It's a piece of metal.

I last washed mine a few years back & it resembles a dustbin inside.

Who actually gives a shit

INeedMoreCakeInMyLife · 31/07/2018 14:15

Our neighbours wash their car daily. And if we have rain on and off all day. Each time it stops he goes and re washes car and his house windows.!. So often many times a day..
I'm dry days he washes car 3-5pm..eithiit fail.
I often park near him and mine is filthy on the outside.. must take to car wash

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 31/07/2018 14:16

It's his new toy. He's not doing anything wrong. The novelty will soon wear off I bet.

*without fail

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 31/07/2018 14:16

Who actually gives a shit

Well yes Grin

SoapOnARoap · 31/07/2018 14:17

I don’t see the problem?

Jappydooda · 31/07/2018 14:18

We had to keep our company cars clean - brand image and all that - so mine was washed and hoovered once a week without fail. It was a BMW.

greendale17 · 31/07/2018 14:20

^That is grim. It really is.

Brigante9 · 31/07/2018 14:24

God, mine is covered in mud from months ago when I shoved shavings in the back seat. I don’t remember the last time I hoovered it. There are usually 3 dogs in the back, too, often wet from being in the river. I am not ashamed. Life’s too short to wash cars, especially one I’ll keep it til it dies.

DGRossetti · 31/07/2018 14:25

Once DS left home, it's amazing how little cleaning the car needs ...

ElementalHalfLife · 31/07/2018 14:25

Shit, first few months with our very first BRAND new car it was so over washed and polished by both of us I'm sure the neighbors thought we were nuts, but they mostly gave us indulgent sympathetic smiles as they negotiated the obstacle course of buckets and cleaning products around the pavement. Years on I still get a lovely feeling of satisfaction when my car is all shiny and pristine after it's monthly visit to the valet. Leave him alone OP, he's enjoying himself with his pretty new 'baby' and doing absolutely no harm to you.

Lemonyknickers · 31/07/2018 14:27

Man opposite us has a Merc, washes it daily, once he has driven it he will sometimes rinse and dry it again. He also sometimes gets in the car, gets out again and gets a cloth to wipe a bit off the bonnet. I assumed he has a compulsion, except I heard him screaming at his wife when she failed to clean her shoes getting in the car. He also then slapped his son really hard for weeing in the otther car, he had let him sit naked in the car seat. Now I have no sympathy for him and suspect he's an abusive control freak, nothing like jumping to conclusions about strangers is there!

The novelty will wear off eventually, and so will the paint if he keeps on cleaning the car all the time Grin

Zadig · 31/07/2018 14:32

Never mind the car. I would like to know please - what is it about the wife that makes her a “horrible woman?”

woolythoughts · 31/07/2018 14:33

DH finds washing cars therapeutic- he often washes both of ours for no reason other than he wants to relax.

Sparklingbrook · 31/07/2018 14:35

When you spend lots on a car just pay for some else to clean it.

PandaPolarBear · 31/07/2018 14:36

If I got a new car I'd be the same!

Clean and shiny things should stay clean and shiny for as long as possible. Smile

coolncalm · 31/07/2018 14:40

Neighbours....never fail to provide speculation and amusement. Grin
But of course in mumsnet world we shouldn't have an opinion on them. Hmm

MamaBear2181 · 31/07/2018 14:47

What a weird thing to start a thread about?

Tara336 · 31/07/2018 14:52

Does the make matter? If it was a Ford Fiesta would it raise less eyebrows? I don’t wash my car I get it valeted once a month because I don’t want to sit in a dirty car

mydogisthebest · 31/07/2018 14:52

We used to live next door to someone who every Sunday without fail (even if it was raining) would wash his car. I am not joking it used to take him 3 hours!

He used a toothbrush to clean the wheel trims! I can't even remember what car it was but it was nothing special.

We usually put our car through a car wash and occasionally wash it ourselves but it doesn't take long. We have better things to do than waste 3 hours washing a car

Zippitydoodar · 31/07/2018 14:54

@mamma innit!

Stop telling me to leave him alone, I'm not bothering him!
@zadig the fact that she has ignored us for the past 10 yrs. We always said hello only to be ignored. When she had children we tried again but nope she's way better than us. She actually looks at you, smirks then looks away. She's a very strange woman. Her husband was very nice at first until he accused us of dinting his old BMW. Hasn't spoke to us since.
I may tell him how lovely his new car is!

Aw, he's enjoying his new toy, let him get on with it.

DH bought his first-ever new car last year (it's a four-door but has a "sporty" look) and he's slightly in love with it as well. He was upset when my car was being repaired and I had to take the dog to the vet's in his!
He doesn't really like anyone (except him) to be in his shiny, v. clean car Smile

Fatbelliedgirl · 31/07/2018 14:57

Sounds exactly like my old neighbour up the road, except he was in his 50's...perhaps it's a brand new BMW owner thing.
