AIBU to be worried - 38 °C!

AIBU to be worried about our upcoming trip. DH has planned a surprise weekend break for my birthday next weekend. He doesn't want to tell me where he is but he's told me the weather forecast so I can pack. It's 34°C on Friday, 35 on Saturday, and 38 on Sunday!!!

I'm really worried. He has promised me there will be A/C in the room but he won't tell me anything else. I haven't told him how worried I am because I don't want to hurt his feelings but...38°!!!

So ...where could it be? I'm thinking south of Spain somewhere. I know it's in Europe. And should I go WIBU to own up to being worried and just refuse?

What is so worrying?

whydoineedanickname · 29/07/2018 14:01

What are you worried about? Pack sun cream and drink plenty of water.

AvonCallingBarksdale · 29/07/2018 14:02

I hear you, OP. Our holiday destination in a couple of weeks is forecast 35 degrees, which I’m dreading tbh.

brizzledrizzle · 29/07/2018 14:03

Packing will be easy - 2 pairs of shorts, 2 vest tops, sun cream, sun hat and sun glasses and you're good to go :-)

Just drink lots of water and have a great time.

Amanduh · 29/07/2018 14:03

Worried about what?

DappledThings · 29/07/2018 14:03

I hated the last few weeks and am delighted to see grey sky and massive temperature drops. But that's nearly all to do with sleeping in sauna temperatures.

If there's definitely a/c in the room then I'd have no concerns. But I get the arse at anything override 25 at home

Cel982 · 29/07/2018 14:04

What are you worried about, specifically? While 38 degrees is obviously very hot, it's not dangerously so as long as you're sensible about it. I've been in India in 40 degree weather (in a hotel without AC, for part of the trip) and still found it very manageable.

I'm a bit envious of your weekend!

MyBloodyMaltesersAreMelting · 29/07/2018 14:05

if its the normal temperature for that country you'll be fine
enjoy it

bluerunningshoes · 29/07/2018 14:05

where?
dry heat - fine. it doesn't feel as hot. sun protection and lots of fluids and you will have a great time
humid - eurgh is all I say to that

TopShagger · 29/07/2018 14:06

He's booked you a holiday in my house. And he's lying about the A/C.

Whatsnewwithyou · 29/07/2018 14:06

Thanks maybe I'm worrying for nothing? Worried about heatstroke, etc. I guess we will have to stay in the hotel room from 11-3 and take siesta, mostly go out in the mornings and evenings.

FiveStoryFire · 29/07/2018 14:06

Is there a pool/beach?

If yes then YABU.

Twilight456 · 29/07/2018 14:07

Could be marrekech or somewhere like that! Will be lovely!! Just pack very cool clothing in light colours and a facial mist spray!

DappledThings · 29/07/2018 14:11

You don't have to stay in the room. Drink plenty of water, find shade to sit down in. You'll be fine.

Wetwashing00 · 29/07/2018 14:14

I think you’re worrying unnecessarily, If you think it’s gonna be like the heat in England you’re wrong.

People spend thousands of pounds every year to escape the crappy summers we have here
In England, and I doubt they do so so they can stay in between 11am- 3pm.
I’ve been on holiday in 45c heat, it’s hot and you can’t stay in the sun for long but you can breathe, it’s not suffocating.
I’m
Sure you will have a great time

EdWinchester · 29/07/2018 14:19

I wouldn't be worried or even stick to the room in the afternoon. As long as you dress for hot weather, I can't see an issue.

littletike · 29/07/2018 14:20

I think it's been 37 in parts of the UK and Germany, France and Italy cities have had temperatures in the late 30s so it might not necessarily be southern Spain or somewhere traditionally thought of as so hot.

Has he said whether to take swimwear?

speakout · 29/07/2018 14:20

I hate surprises.

I would refuse to go.

agedknees · 29/07/2018 14:21

We’ve just come back from south Spain. If you have air con, there will be no problem sleeping.

Eat/walk in the shade. Utilise the pool.

You will be fine.

TheCatFromOuterSpace · 29/07/2018 14:21

It will be fine so long as it is dry heat.

Have you checked if it is somewhere where exposing loads of flesh is socially acceptable?

THEsonofaBITCH · 29/07/2018 14:22

I go running outdoors in up to 43C heat. Yes 38C is hot but unless you are forced to wear a suit or other I think its quite pleasant, if you can dress for the weather and spend time in air conditioning should be no issue.

newplacenofriends · 29/07/2018 14:27

agree with TheCatFromOuterSpace, also check he hasn't planned anything that will require you to cover up even if the country doesn't normally require it (e.g. camel riding (youll probably want long trousers for this), religious buildings, etc)

golondrina · 29/07/2018 14:28

For a holiday (so I assume a hotel with pool possibly and certainly air con) it's fine. We live in southern Spain (with no pool or air con) and it's that kind of temperature in summer. It's hot but perfectly fine. Stay in the air con or pool when it's really hot and go out in the evening.
I'm sure you'll have a great time.

newplacenofriends · 29/07/2018 14:29

but you'll be fine in 38 and don't need to stay inside all day! drinks lots of water, follow suncream advice (6 tablespoons of suncream every 2/3 hours), and utilise shade/cool areas (e.g. go have a drink in hotel lobby if you start feeling a bit hot, go to an air conditioned shopping centre, finding shade around the pool, etc.

MyFriendFlicker · 29/07/2018 14:29

I guess we will have to stay in the hotel room from 11-3
Really? Have you never been on holiday to a beach destination?

38C on holiday by a pool is not the same as 38C in the UK with high humidity, no air con and having to go to work.

It's not ideal for sightseeing but if you are in a nice hotel, just park by the pool under the shade and relax with a cold drink.

It's unlikely to be that hot in the evening and restaurants will be outdoors.
I highly recommend this rechargeable fanIt's a little beast and brilliant for travel.
