AIBU to be worried - 38 °C!

AIBU to be worried about our upcoming trip. DH has planned a surprise weekend break for my birthday next weekend. He doesn't want to tell me where he is but he's told me the weather forecast so I can pack. It's 34°C on Friday, 35 on Saturday, and 38 on Sunday!!!

I'm really worried. He has promised me there will be A/C in the room but he won't tell me anything else. I haven't told him how worried I am because I don't want to hurt his feelings but...38°!!!

So ...where could it be? I'm thinking south of Spain somewhere. I know it's in Europe. And should I go WIBU to own up to being worried and just refuse?

I guess we will have to stay in the hotel room from 11-3

This is extremely OTT, I live abroad in a country that stays in the 30s all summer and throughout a lot of the autumn too. My job involves outdoor manual labour and we work from 9 - 6ish, with a short break for lunch. Staying inside from 11-3 is ludicrous, just completely unnecessary. Please don't worry, you will have a wonderful time and you can stay in the shade to keep cool. I've never known anyone here get heatstroke.

If is in Europe it won't necessarily be dry heat. I'm in southern France and it's "only" 34C today but the humidity makes it feel very uncomfortable. It'll be 37 tomorrow and there is literally no way I would be waking city streets in that, and I've lived here for over 20 years so acclimatisation is not an issue. The local councils are sending employees out at dawn to do manual jobs so that they don't have to work in the afternoon heat.

Peak heat hours in Southern Europe will be midday to sunset, it won't get cooler after 3pm, that's a very UK-centric way of thinking. Hottest time of day in July and early August in Southern Europe is usually around 5pm.

According to Facebook it's going to be in the mid 40s in Europe next week. Ugh!!!

Where did you go OP and how was it?

Whatsnewwithyou · 05/08/2018 17:17

Lyon! It was amazing and we had a fabulous time. Whoever recommended to cooling towels- thank you, they were a lifesaver! As was drinking lots of water and eating lots of ice cream.

We spent the hottest parts of each day indoors, either in the hotel or mostly in the museums and churches. We made plans before venturing out into the heat and relied on taxis a bit more than we usually would have. And we went out wandering more in the mornings and evenings.

Thanks to everyone who posted, and if you ever get a chance to go to Lyon...go!!!
