Bathroom comes with the house??!!

So DH and I have just bought a new house (not brand new but new to us :)) and it cost us a lot of money (far more than a care to admit! :))
We moved in yesterday, the house is perfect except for one thing...

They've taken the bloody bathroom with them!!!!

One of the two main bathrooms upstairs is literally empty, like I don't mean just the furniture which you obviously take with you. But they've taken the bath, sink and shower!!!!

The room is tiled but theres random pipes sticking out of walls where these things should be!! The only thing left is the toilet. I honestly don't know what to do... We were going to redo the bathroom anyway at some point but never told this to anybody and weren't planning to do so until at least November/December time but now we don't have a choice!!

The kids come home from the holiday with my in-laws on Tuesday and we've got no bathroom for them!!!!

AIBU to think that the bathroom comes with the house, or is it totally reasonable to take the bathroom with you to your new house??!!

Thought, do you know who they used to move, as bet they remembered packing that tub.

LittleDoritt · 30/07/2018 19:01

C'mon OP, update us!

celebrityskin · 30/07/2018 19:03

So intrigued to know about the bathroom.... was it a particularly expensive or unusual bathroom suite???

BFGgirl · 30/07/2018 19:13

I don’t think we’re going to get a response from the OP Sad

OVienna · 30/07/2018 19:27

Troll crossed my mind but I thought: how weird to start a thread about this if it weren't true? I mean -why??? On bakance I am going with but I suspect the sellers may have indicated their bizarre intention in the paperwork somewhere (potentially obvious). I think we'll never know...

greencygnets · 30/07/2018 19:27

Sorry its taken so long for an update, but at least this is a positive one.

The solicitor was also very confused and angry, he got back to us at 10 this morning to say he was contacting the bathroom stealers solicitor and he will try to get it all sorted by the end of the day.

Then at about 2 this afternoon, the solicitor phoned back saying their solicitor also had no idea about the bathroom removal and he was contacting the bathroom stealers themselves to ask about this.

And just before the solicitor had to leave for the day he phoned us (DH answered I was out) that the other solicitor hadn't gotten back to him yet but would press him again tomorrow for answers.

So we're getting somewhere, slowly but things are happening!
I will keep you updated!! :)

@bluebug45 it was stated that they would be left. That’s why I got annoyed

Was 19yrs ago now and can’t R.E.M. if for compensation. Know they didn’t get returned

OVienna · 30/07/2018 19:28

Could it be the weirdest of all 'reverses' whereby OP and DH are thinking of doing this????

OVienna · 30/07/2018 19:29

Sorry OP!!!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 19:31

Why was the solicitor angry? He can’t be talking it personally on your behalf, surely?

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 19:32

Why was it presumed that either of the solicitors would have known about the bathroom removal? Hmm

ToadOfSadness · 30/07/2018 19:36

Why was it presumed that either of the solicitors would have known about the bathroom removal?

If it was on the fixtures and fitting list as being taken, they should both have known about it.

cherish123 · 30/07/2018 19:40

Yip - contact solicitor. They cannot do this unless it says in the contract.

Beeziekn33ze · 30/07/2018 19:43

I am trying to imagine arriving at a new property with a used bathroom suite in the removal van!

Jux · 30/07/2018 19:44

I shouldn't think anyone presumed either solicitor knew, but who would you otherwise contact? The contract is a legal thing which is dealt with by solicitors, one for each party. If one party fails to deliver their contracted stuff then the other oarty tells their solicitor who contacts the so,icitor acting for the party who've failed to delivier the contracted goods. I think that's plain enough, isn't it?

EmmaC78 · 30/07/2018 19:44

Cherish if you RTFT the OP has already contacted her solicitor and updated about it.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 19:44

But op has confirmed it was not listed on the form as not being left in place? Yet she thought either one or both of them would be able to come up with a reasonable explanation as to it’s absence!

Mixedupmummy · 30/07/2018 19:49

I am a conveyanicng solicitor and I've NEVER heard of anything so bonkers! I can't wait to see how it's resolved 🤓

Superheroessidekick · 30/07/2018 19:54

Can’t wait to hear CF bathroom stealers response

GoofyIsACow · 30/07/2018 19:56

Looking forward to what happens! 😬

Baaba · 30/07/2018 19:57

Feel so bad for you Op, moving is stressful enough! Can't imagine sellers will bring goods back and fit it, perhaps they can contribute towards a new bathroom

missedith01 · 30/07/2018 19:58

Thank-you for updating. Looking forward to hearing their excuse!

billybagpuss · 30/07/2018 19:59

I think this will take some time

Oliphantintheroom · 30/07/2018 20:05

Shameless place marking

quitefranklyabsurd · 30/07/2018 20:09

Place marking - have to see what happens with this!
