Bathroom comes with the house??!!

So DH and I have just bought a new house (not brand new but new to us :)) and it cost us a lot of money (far more than a care to admit! :))
We moved in yesterday, the house is perfect except for one thing...

They've taken the bloody bathroom with them!!!!

One of the two main bathrooms upstairs is literally empty, like I don't mean just the furniture which you obviously take with you. But they've taken the bath, sink and shower!!!!

The room is tiled but theres random pipes sticking out of walls where these things should be!! The only thing left is the toilet. I honestly don't know what to do... We were going to redo the bathroom anyway at some point but never told this to anybody and weren't planning to do so until at least November/December time but now we don't have a choice!!

The kids come home from the holiday with my in-laws on Tuesday and we've got no bathroom for them!!!!

AIBU to think that the bathroom comes with the house, or is it totally reasonable to take the bathroom with you to your new house??!!

So we're getting somewhere, slowly but things are happening

Sorry Op but I think you need to raise the bar on your idea of getting somewhere! Shock.

So far your solicitor has called their solicitor, who has not called back with any answers at this point and has probably not been able to get hold of the vendor (who were no doubt expecting the call and dodged it). That’s getting precisely nowhere, ask your solicitor what the legal options are so that you’re not wasting time waiting whilst the pilfered bathroom remains at large across county lines!

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 20:11

Indeed. I thought “things are happening!” a little strange.

RockingMyFiftiesNot · 30/07/2018 20:13

I can honestly say I've never checked to make sure a bathroom or kitchen was being left behind when I've bought a house - and I've never heard of anyone moving in to find a bathroom had been removed. How weird

GabsAlot · 30/07/2018 20:15

wow how odd-tell your solicitor tomorrow u want compensation for new fixtures or you'll take them to court

Orangecake123 · 30/07/2018 20:16

I agree with what GreatWesternValkyrie said!

BlueBug45 · 30/07/2018 20:17

@Blondeshavemorefun - some people are just stupid but the OP's vendors are crazy.

manicmij · 30/07/2018 20:18

Take it you are in UK and not somewhere else in Europe where bathroom, kitchen cupboards, everything is taken. Loads if mortgage lenders won't lend if there is not bathroom or kitchen unless special conditions agreed. You need to contact solicitor to either be compensated or seller has to have bath etc reinstated. Goid luck.

Excited0803 · 30/07/2018 20:22

Make sure you request compensation for the cost of new bathroom furnishings, also the plumber fitting cost and an inconvenience cost for lack of use of the bathroom for several weeks in order to resolve this and get it fitted.
(By the way, be wary of cheap bathroom fitting suppliers, they don't all deliver INTO the house though some do; check delivery instructions carefully so you don't end up with a bath and vanity unit sitting on the pavement waiting to find strong friends.)

Placemarking☺

Kamma89 · 30/07/2018 20:22

Crazy behaviour!

bluebell58 · 30/07/2018 20:25

Can't believe anyone would take bathroom fittings, I was sure anything fixed had to be left. In the first house we bought in the late seventies they not only took all the light bulbs but also the fittings leaving bare wires. But they did kindly leave us some of their rubbish.

CircleofWillis · 30/07/2018 20:25

I reckon that If they are moving into rented accommodation they are either doing up a house before moving into it and decided to save money on bathroom fittings or they sold it and it is currently being installed in some unsuspecting purchaser’s house.

BeyondMyThoughts · 30/07/2018 20:28

I'm glad your solicitor is working to find out what the sellers were thinking hopefully you have an answer soon

MrsPeel · 30/07/2018 20:35

I was told that as a rule of thumb if you turned the house upside down and shook it anything that wouldn't fall out is a fixture and fitting and included in the price. Your soliicitor may not be keen to pursue it, the job being done and dusted from his or her POV but you need to get tough.

3luckystars · 30/07/2018 20:38

That is taking the piss.

CrabbityRabbit · 30/07/2018 20:40

Good work OP.

Nomination for CF 2018 goes to the bathroom stealers

FishingIsNotASport · 30/07/2018 20:45

Why do people 'place mark' when you can just use the 'watch this thread' function?

Katyb121 · 30/07/2018 20:47

.

Clutterbugsmum · 30/07/2018 20:53

Was it a gold plated bathroom.

donquixotedelamancha · 30/07/2018 20:53

Why do people 'place mark' when you can just use the 'watch this thread' function?

Placemarking to find out the answer to this.

Pixel99 · 30/07/2018 20:53

Fishing - I would use place marking on my rather ancient mobile and I wanted easy access to a thread I was interested in. Or add a random message! I am now on an even older laptop!

ifonly4 · 30/07/2018 20:55

The sellers are probably ignoring their solicitors calls as they know what it's about. Make it clear to your solicitor tomorrow that you're not prepared to let it rest if it wasn't made clear on the paperwork shown to you. You want bathroom immediately reinstated by a plumber with a good reputation or the cost of a new one.

Iamagreyhoundhearmeroar · 30/07/2018 20:59

Op’s argument is with the vendor, not the solicitor. What should have been made clear on the paperwork - there is currently a bathroom in situ but we intend to take it with us??

donquixotedelamancha · 30/07/2018 21:00

I would use place marking on my rather ancient mobile and I wanted easy access to a thread I was interested in.

If you press the 3 little dots in the bottom right hand corner of a message on a mobile, you can bookmark the exact place, rather than just watching the thread. On the desktop site this appears when you hover over that corner. Watching the thread is in the drop down at the top of the thread.

Both much quicker than writing a message to placemark.
