I do indeed, @NovelNetware GrinGrinGrin. Although it's probably the wrong way to have described it, so v silly of me. I should have said niche. I suppose you could call it a snobby hobby Grin, although I don't think so - a couple of people involved, maybe. It's not what's involved, it's more the attendees & who is involved in doing this outside of classes and socials - that's where the cost & connections come in. Honestly, a lot of them are naice. They're nearly all normal. It's the truth.

All are welcome, it just seems to have a certain image. A version of this hobby is actually pretty popular and is mentioned on MN as being fun. It's probably more to do with where in the country I am that makes it the way it is. It's been described as a posh cult (although I'm not) and I had it on my dating profile because I wanted someone who ideally knew what it was to do it with. The amount of confused messages asking about it did suggest to me that it's not a well known thing though.

QueenOfTheAndals · 02/08/2018 17:22

Is it croquet? Grin

CSIblonde · 02/08/2018 17:23

Agreed. I caught her Dad's interview on breakfast TV purely by accident & was open mouthed at him repeating, verbatim, conversation with Harry.

The current ignore tactic doesn't seem to have worked. I did wonder what 'the Queen may have to intervene' meant? Contact only if you sign a Non Disclosure Agreement first? Pay him to shut up? (he's very obv after £).

TwoBlueShoes · 02/08/2018 17:24

Lets just say Thomas Markle shouldn’t drive through any tunnels in the near future. 😱

IWannaSeeHowItEnds · 02/08/2018 17:32

People should be entitled to a private life - to not have details of previous relationships pored over by the press, personal photo's that were never intended for the public to see should not be printed.
'Interesting to the public' is not the same as 'of public interest'. If the press aren't careful, all the scandals they've been involved in as a result of not observing this rule is going to get them heavily regulated in future. They are continuing to prove that they cannot be trusted to regulate themselves.

Evrn if MM was awful, had cut out her family for no reason etc, that would still be no reason to bitch to the papers. Wouldn't you just msintain some dignity and let it go?

MrsAidanTurner · 02/08/2018 17:53

High end hobby.

Gambling.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 02/08/2018 17:57

Not either of the two mentioned, although I am looking in to poker & bridge! It's a small world & I haven't NCd so I'm not going to say (sorry to be a cliche) but I'm enjoying the guesses.

SavannahSky · 02/08/2018 18:03

Hunting? Clay pigeon shooting?

LaurieMarlow · 02/08/2018 18:10

Polo?

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 02/08/2018 18:34

Hunting- only attending the odd meet and occasionally get hunt ball invites, clay pigeons- no one wants me with any form of fire arm Grin, polo- only watching.

YaLoVeras · 02/08/2018 18:36

I think PP is right, he wants to be so annoying and so embarrassing thta they have to approach him with a wad of cash and a sign here gagging order, but then they'd need the same for Thomas Jnr and the delightful and not bitter at all Samantha

CSIblonde · 02/08/2018 18:36

Twoblueshoes: in recent documentary, white Fiat found, repainted red by driver, 6hrs after crash - according to his Dad. French woman whose call to Police was ignored described him/car right down to half the Paris numbered reg plate & large black dog w. plastic orange muzzle in back seat. (derails thread).

LuluJakey1 · 02/08/2018 18:38

DSHathaway Is it pigeon fancying? The Queen is a very keen Pigeon Fancier.

LuluJakey1 · 02/08/2018 18:39

Or Corgi breeding?

LuluJakey1 · 02/08/2018 18:42

You are an illegal bookie and she has sly bets with you after reading The Racing Post.

LuluJakey1 · 02/08/2018 18:44

You are in a club which makes fruit spirits - sloe gin, sloe vodka, blackberry whiskey . She and Phillip are extremely fond of those and make their own at Sandringham.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 02/08/2018 18:46

No animals involved. Certainly not corgis or pigeons, both of which I would quite happily have left off the ark Grin.

It's honestly mundane, it's more those who do it & the social events outside of the classes/society that make it "posh". A version of this hobby is sometimes mentioned on mn as being really good fun. I'm loving my imaginary new hobbies though.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 02/08/2018 18:48

@Lulujakey no bookmaking & no booze brewing, although a couple of people I know do make sloe gin - and one girl is obsessed with making marmalade!

MiggledyHiggins · 03/08/2018 12:09

Can you explain further why its so rotten to mention the education. Dh mum always does and it drives me mad I know it's wrong but I can say exactly why.

Mrs. Aiden Turner (love the name btw) I dunno - it's a personal feeling really. I'm perhaps especially susceptible to it because my DM does a great like in Martyrdom given she haemmoraged having me and I was told I almost killed her she almost died having me from an early age. As a child I had massive guilt and complexes about that. Only as an adult I saw that I didn't cause it.

My belief is that we choose to have children then we are obligated to educate them (as well as feed them, clothe them etc.) as a basic right. Picking out their prestigious primary or secondary schools is ultimately the parent's decision given that the child is a minor without a say and it's the parents who take on board any costs associated with that. A decent parent should make provision for third level education in so far as possible as well.

To throw it back on a child that you spent over the odds on something in their childhood that you chose for them is -to my mind- narcissistic and manipulative in a Look-at-the-sacrifices-I-made-for-you-you-ungrateful-pup rhetoric thrown back in their face.

LanguidLobster · 03/08/2018 12:32

@DSHathaway women's institute?

think Meghan's family have been quiet for a couple of days now

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 03/08/2018 12:33

I agree entirely @MrsAidenTurner and @MiggledyHiggins. Little Meghan probably had little input into her education. And given the cost of HE in America, I'm sure plenty of people want to save their DC the cost of loans. No brainer to pay it & accept a parent paying it.

I arguably haven't had a glittering career (thus farGrin) despite my private education (although I'm now very happy as I no longer work in retail), but my parents have NEVER thrown it back at me, DM has chucked some unforgivable barbs at me jn her time but NEVER that. I've felt guilty at times as I feel I've been a let down, but they've always said it was their choice, worth the money & education is never a waste.

TwoBlueShoes · 03/08/2018 16:49

I was kidding about the royal family having people bumped off. I think if that were true, Fergie would have been pushed down the stairs a long time ago.

longwayoff · 03/08/2018 17:08

Lady Mason? Or gardening which is a great class barrier eradicator. As long as you keep off the dahliass.

longwayoff · 03/08/2018 17:19

With you miggledy. Our children don't choose to come, we bring them and they deserve as good a life as we can give them. Hanging about bleating about them being a disappointment once they're adults is absolutely not on

SmileSweetly · 13/08/2018 12:52

How many more pathetic interviews are the press going to squeeze out of Thomas Markle before they finally lose interest? He doesn't really have much to say...just repeating his rants on a loop. He's cashing in as much as he can.

MM exercised excellent judgement when she cut them out her life going NC, and has obviously struggled with these toxic family members for years.

I think the RF are doing exactly the right thing, ignoring and staying by quiet, any action whatsoever by them or any contact MM makes will be splashed all over the tabloids in more explosive interviews. Silence is the only dignified response.
