ex lover is signed up, paid £10,000 a week and then a lump sum for the story when it is used. They will sit happily on £10,000 a week for months

If the Great British Press were really so concerned with the impact of Leveson on their ability to uncover injustice, maybe they should stop paying men to humiliate women in the public eye. The tabloids don't give damn about investigative journalism, they just want to publish pictures of naked famous women. If the likes of The Times are worried about privacy laws impacting on press freedoms, maybe they should be having a word with their colleagues.

LuluJakey1 · 02/08/2018 10:05

Sunflower KP did not bother to try and hush them because the can't. They can say and do as they please and they are doing so. The embarrassment is not caused by the press. The role of the press is to report things that may interest, educate, expose unfairness, entertain. It is not to protect the Royal Family, nor is it to expose private lives. However, this is a woman who has exposed her own life for years for money and attention using the press and social media and earned millions from it. Her family are choosing to expose their lives for less money. People can't have it all ways.

I’m afraid the writing was on the wall well before the wedding. The RF will have great difficulty dealing with this one.

RoseWhiteTips · 02/08/2018 10:22

She tried unsuccessfully to disown her past life. It was never going to work. Sticking your head in the sand is a poor strategy.

RoseWhiteTips · 02/08/2018 10:25

I agree that this right royal cock up IS news. This is the 21st century and the press has relative freedom. The RF cannot gag it. Quite amusing really.

You know, Ive not heard anything about the Markle family since the wedding and I keep pretty up to date with the news/current affairs. Maybe some of you should question what you're reading and why? No point trawling the gutter then complaining when you keep catching turds.

MapleLeafRag · 02/08/2018 10:40

How many people have had their marriages badly affected by their inlaws behaviour? Just think of all the threads on Mumsnet about PIL’s antics causing problems!

It must be taking the shine off things for Harry.

LaurieMarlow · 02/08/2018 11:07

I love how so many people profess themselves to be experts on the guest list (which was never published) and Megan's relationship with random relatives (like the diplomat guy mentioned upthread, the dynamics of which we know nothing about).

God love her, living under that kind of bitchy scrutiny. I hope she's cultivating thick skin, she needs one.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 02/08/2018 14:11

@LaurieMarlow I've said I'll happily be corrected if more comes to light on that situ with mr diplomat but what has got out doesn't paint her well.

A few royals weren't on the list, which a few of the better connected people I know viewed dimly as they seemed to be at the expense of a few "names"- but not any of our weddings so not our business. I'm sure she's very "nice" - but most likely with the sharp elbows and rhinoceros hide of those who aim to climb in that way.

@longwayoff, she will! Doesn't stop her being nice, but they are probably necessary to get on in the industry. I'd say the same if Harry had married anyone of that ilk. Similarly, Kate's had to let some remarks bounce off her, too and no doubt used her school & uni years wisely. I think she's lovely but tougher than you think. I'm not a Meghan fan- I just don't warm to her, but I don't blame her for withdrawing from that family. I think she's very classy to rise above.

I have a fairly high end hobby. So yes, socially I do come across a few people who aren't too shabby, a couple of them are quite well connected. Some weren't amused at the "slebs" usurping the "royals" at the wedding - the latter is more their sort of people spotting- and society matters to them, they take part in the season. A couple air views that would probably seem v stiff & outdated on here. My lone vague, tenuous palace connection is on the military side& via this hobby & never has any goss. No flunky-hotline for me. That all strikes me as highly deluded and an insult to the poor girl.

MiggledyHiggins · 02/08/2018 16:06

She needs to sign up to MN and read Stately homes.

For a father to throw 'he paid for her education' into his child's face decades later is actually despicable and a classic of the Stately Homes threads. It shows him up for the man he is tbh.
a: She was a child and presumably had fuck all say in where her parents chose to enrol her during primary and secondary.
b: as a parent, you are supposed to get your kid educated. It's a parenting basic really.
c: he paid for her uni education - again, most parents if they can afford it and if they aren't total fuckwits and you'd want to be a pretty big wanker sitting on 750k and not put money towards your daughters uni education.

longwayoff · 02/08/2018 16:12

I don't know anything about her other than that she's an American actress married to Prince Harry and appears to have a grabby mouthy family who should know better. Yet having seen the buckets of vitriol poured on her on these pages by people who presumably know her as well as I do i.e not at all, she'll need all the help she can get. Poor thing.

I've said I'll happily be corrected if more comes to light on that situ with mr diplomat but what has got out doesn't paint her well.

So what has come out? As far as I'm aware it's that a) he once helped her get a job and b) he wasn't invited to the wedding.

As to the many years between those events, we know absolutely nothing, so are not in any place to comment.

For example, my uncle (mother's brother) once did me a major favour (of a similar magnitude to the one above). Shortly afterwards he screwed my father over significantly, damaging his mental health and devastating his self esteem. He did not get invited to my wedding, regardless of that good deed, because what he did subsequently I'll never forgive him for.

You only know a teeny tiny piece of this story. It's ridiculous to draw conclusions on her character.

MrsAidanTurner · 02/08/2018 16:29

@miggeldyhiggins

Can you explain further why its so rotten to mention the education. Dh mum always does and it drives me mad I know it's wrong but I can say exactly why.

MrsAidanTurner · 02/08/2018 16:31

@miggeldyhiggins please see above why mention education so bad

MrsAidanTurner · 02/08/2018 16:32

Exactly Laurie.

Infact I had some nasty interludes with family I have met about 5 times in my 4 decades in this earth and only ever actually spoken to once!! I was accused of all sorts over silly family issues. I don't know these people.

LaurieMarlow · 02/08/2018 16:34

A few royals weren't on the list, which a few of the better connected people I know viewed dimly as they seemed to be at the expense of a few "names"

Surely if people are pissed off that minor royals weren't at the wedding (though Christ knows why anyone would care), they should direct their anger towards Harry, not Meghan. They're his family, not hers.

So just to recap ... when some of Megan's family are not invited to the wedding, it's because Meghan's a bitch.

When some of Harry's family are not invited to the wedding, it's also because Meghan's a bitch. Hmm

Slimmingsnake · 02/08/2018 16:39

At first I felt sorry for her family ,and I felt she was being a bit mean....now I don't ,I think they are actually doing her a favour banging on as they are as people are starting to like her for what she is putting up with...they are clearly loons ,and she seems nice.

DSHathawayGivesMeFannyGallops · 02/08/2018 16:54

You're right Laurie and we have no idea how it plays out behind closed doors.

We've got no idea of how close they are. Although he's on record as saying he was offended. Even if she decided on a blanket ban on Markles, that implies she hasn't attempted to mend any fences & I doubt he needs to ride on the coat tails of her until-recently-pretty-b-list fame. Having said that though, people move on & she's in a bloody difficult situation.
