To feel terrified after reading the prepping for Brexit threads?

LittleNapRefuser · 28/07/2018 20:26

I have genuinely cried real tears of fear after reading the threads on prepping for Brexit today. I have a toddler and right now I am terrified of what is to come and their future after all this.

I don't really have anyone to talk to about this in 'real life' because most people I know aren't reading the news or don't seem to care.

Should I be terrified? Should I be scared for my baby's future? Can anyone reassure me or offer me an alternative perspective on all this. I don't want to to put my head in the sand but I feel really afraid.

In a couple of years it may well do Grin

SinkGirl · 29/07/2018 18:14

Unless you have daily need of a European-sourced medicine only available from one place, I’m not sure what you are imagining.

That’ll be me, then. Plus it’s a controlled drug so I can’t get more than a month at a time.

Seasawride · 29/07/2018 18:14

HermioneGoesBackHome

Mmmmm I think you didn’t read my post properly I said the economy will boom and bust cyclically just like it always has.

Seasawride · 29/07/2018 18:16

we are falling off a cliff edge

Is that remoaners bingo along with ‘we voted for a journey not a destination’

Yawn. And yes I voted remain.

AllIHaveToDo · 29/07/2018 18:17

Seasaw - better than the Leavers bingo! But... but.... taking back control innit!

AllIHaveToDo · 29/07/2018 18:18

Immigration. And making our own laws. And... well... yeah

borntobequiet · 29/07/2018 18:20

Ireland is in a position to do very well out of Brexit, and why not?
It’s the 21st century and a country lacking in natural resources such as coal or oil can do very well in financial services, pharmaceuticals, tech manufacturing and similar. Factor in an enterprising, educated, English speaking workforce, membership of one of the biggest trading blocs in the world - the EU - strong links with the US and other countries via descendants of the Irish diaspora and the potential to develop green energy sources such as tidal energy and you have everything needed for success. Much of which the U.K. also has, but is throwing away. I say this with sorrow as a citizen of both countries.

rainbowsandsmiles · 29/07/2018 18:23

Allhavetodo -falling off a cliff edge, here we go with the ahhhh we're dooooomed talk again.
Nations pride, you say? Maybe a rendition of God Save the Queen sing a long.....

Seasawride · 29/07/2018 18:26

AllihaveToDo

Oh I ageee with you the vitriol hysteria and nastiness from both sides is appaling. And very very boring.

AllIHaveToDo · 29/07/2018 18:26

Rainbow - I stand by my thinking, national pride is a bollocks concept. And shock I'm not a royalist. But thanks for your input. As ever.

rainbowsandsmiles · 29/07/2018 18:32

Not a Royalist, you say? How about a sing sing round the campfire then. I'm sure between us and all the stockpiles we can cobble up enough beans and sausages for us all.

abilockhart · 29/07/2018 18:33

The completely vacuous have declared all will be okay, there will be no shortages. Like Y2K, the problem will just fix itself all on its own.

Please ignore the experts. After all, Britain has had enough of experts.

Seasawride · 29/07/2018 18:33

national pride is a bollocks concept

Now Jeremy off you go and take Dianne with you while the sane debate

Seasawride · 29/07/2018 18:34

abilockhart

Have you just posted that exact same post on the other thread or am I being hysterical Grin

AllIHaveToDo · 29/07/2018 18:36

'While the sane debate' - I'm waiting for some of you to start debating. Seems all you have is sound bites of 'it'll be reet' ad nauseum!

rainbowsandsmiles · 29/07/2018 18:37

"Anyone with a different opinion to me is completely vacuous!" Ok, the only people sounding completely vacuous is the ones coming out with utter drivel like that.

Seasawride · 29/07/2018 18:41

I must say I think it’s pretty vacuous to do as some posters describe taking the side of their baths to stockpile tns.

Actually no that’s not vacuous that’s insane.

The vacuous are the bloody constant wingers of doom and gloom and Armageddon over a bloody trade deal.

nicebitofquiche · 29/07/2018 18:41

Yes yabu. Get a grip.

Iflyaway · 29/07/2018 18:41

How can a responsible government fuck with peoples lives like this

Well said.

Read a really good and frankly horrifying article from a link on another forum the other day.

www.politics.co.uk/blogs/2018/07/27/this-is-what-no-deal-brexit-actually-looks-like

Shock
rainbowsandsmiles · 29/07/2018 18:41

AllIhavetodo - yet again (and again) nobody KNOWS including you. We can all run around in circles saying terrible terrible, oh I know, I know, it's awful, it's awful, then someone else comes on saying "ye all a shower of bastards" and someone else comes on to say "I hope you all drown in your own shit" actually saw that latter one, I shit ye not - no pun intended Grin or we can actually get a bit of perspective and calm the fuck down instead of creating mass panic and expecting everyone to join in.

keyboardkate · 29/07/2018 18:42

AllIHaveToDo

thank you. It is good to hear that now.

LakieLady · 29/07/2018 18:43

Again in Calais, huge amounts of land has been purchased for a lorry park.

I find that perturbing and not at all reassuring.

When a few coaches on Eurostar had to be taken out of commission, that caused a 5.5 hour wait. Multiply that by the number of trucks, not just at Calais, but at other channel and east coast ports too, and an awful lot of stuff could be held up for an awfully long time.

It's not just medicines (although radioisotopes used in cancer treatments often deteriorate quickly) and perishable foodstuffs where delays can have far-reaching effects, but things like components or replacement parts for machinery that could lead to factories have to lay people off while waiting for deliveries, or essential raw materials.

It's no good churning out Ford Fiestas in England if the engines from Spain to put in them can't get here.

RedToothBrush · 29/07/2018 18:43

Now Jeremy off you go and take Dianne with you while the sane debate

Tell me why anyone who doesn't agree with nationalism is suddenly a Jeremy Corbyn fan?

I'd love to know how people can put two and two together and come up with this nonsense.

There are plenty of people who think ALL our current political 'leaders' are dickheads of the highest order who are spouting ideological bullshit which has no real world relevance to their day to day lives.

My mind boggles at the entire political landscape at the moment and how its reduced so much to just total bullshit.

keyboardkate · 29/07/2018 18:46

rainbows, sorry now but you are posting here with no arguments to back up your stance at all. Why are you doing this?

Are you being paid a premium over the weekend for trolling or being a bot.

Give us your arguments and solutions. Please.

P3onyPenny · 29/07/2018 18:49

80% of our income is the finance sector. We've already lost the drugs agency....

How can people not be worried about this? I just don't get it.Confused
