Am I as invisible here as in real life? Grin

Back in the day I had no crimpelene but I was fortunate enough to have my very own nylon sheets. Even in summer, in 1976 they were not at all pleasant.

Nylon sheets, and brushed nylon sheets, however did we sleep?

dontcallmelen · 31/07/2018 17:12

@brizzledrizzle from that bastion of taste Brentford Nylons.

missmouse101 · 31/07/2018 17:14

Sorry if anyone has mentioned it, haven’t RTFT, but in the 70s, I had polyester knickers. I loved them, they had pictures of rabbits and woodland animals on!!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/07/2018 17:52

"Why pay more?" Helen

(Possibly so you could sleep without drowning in your own sweet . . . Grin)

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/07/2018 17:52

*SWEAT, not sweet

dontcallmelen · 31/07/2018 18:15

😂😂

HonkyWonkWoman · 31/07/2018 18:53

I seem to remember my Dm was very keen on something called Bri-nylon.
We were made of sterner stuff in those days!
And, oh yes! the brushed nylon sheets, to keep up with the neighbours! Grin

HonkyWonkWoman · 31/07/2018 18:58

Just re-read the thread, and nearly choked at the polyester knickers!
Plenty of chitchyness there missmouse!Grin

Imaginarycat - We slept because we were exhausted, having spent much of the day up chimneys or down pits in our polyester knickers and crimpelene "slacks" (with their little loop beneath the arch of the foot, to stop the legs riding up). They developed knees of their own, did these slacks and stuck out like those jorny bits on camel's legs.

Crimpelene was a stunning material, available in all of the popular 60's patterns (say no more . . . ) and in various shades of navy, bottle green, brown and a dirty mulberry colour.

They were the cat's pyjamas! (If it was an incontinent cat which had been sick on its pyjamas . . . )

"Twas a simpler time . . .

HonkyWonkWoman · 31/07/2018 19:25

What about Crimplene Trews, with the loop under the foot. Schaden
Where did they get that name from "Trews"!
My Dm hated anyone who wore "trews", as she bustled round in her bottle green Crimplene frock. She never wore trews, and didn't like women who did.

FuzzyCustard · 31/07/2018 19:37

I had some navy blue stirrup trews! In my defence I was about 5.

dontcallmelen · 31/07/2018 19:39

Oh lord, I remember those trews with the foot loops & yes the knee bit had a life of it’s own, I also had a a fetching bright blue anorak with embroidered pink flowers & an orange crimplene dress with a nylon brown flowery blouse.

brizzledrizzle · 31/07/2018 19:40

I apparently was the height of fashion in the 70s in my seersucker dungarees with a large floral pattern. I could have been an extra in a Terry Wogan video if such a thing had existed then.

OP posts:
dontcallmelen · 31/07/2018 19:41

Lordy, totally forgotten about seersucker.

MarthasGinYard · 31/07/2018 19:43

Brentford Nylons

Wow

Got my first continental quilt from there. With Dolly mixture cover.

HonkyWonkWoman · 31/07/2018 19:50

What was the lightweight material that had a bumpy type texture forced into it! Or have I imagined that!

HonkyWonkWoman · 31/07/2018 19:52

Sorry! I think I'm actually talking about Seersucker!
That was a lovely material.
We had table cloths in Seersucker, very pretty!
I'm getting all nostalgic!

dontcallmelen · 31/07/2018 19:54

Ooh we had stripey pastel coloured seersucker table cloths, my dm loved a tablecloth.

brizzledrizzle · 31/07/2018 19:57

totally forgotten about seersucker.

I think that's a good thing Grin

Lots of gingham frocks in the Summer!
There wasn't anything else for kids, just gingham!
Oh! And I had a pair of jeans, as stiff as cardboard!

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/07/2018 20:24

You must have looked the dog's bollox! Grin

Yes - it was TREWS, they were called, not slacks. All I can think is that the horror was so great, my mind blanked out the details.

SchadenfreudePersonified · 31/07/2018 20:26

And remember the ubiquitous plastic sandals, ladies?

Just the one horrible "style", but there were red ones for girls and brown ones for boys.

Also - was I the only one with a knitted bathing suit? Blush

dontcallmelen · 31/07/2018 20:53

@SchadenfreudePersonified nooo you are not alone I had a knitted swimsuit, I have a photo somewhere of me wearing one on camber sands beach, I will dig it tomorrow & post a pic.
