To not understand people who dont drink hot drinks (lighthearted bit of fun, come join in)

I know i am being unreasonable.. everyone just likes what they like, im not daft...

But i cant imagine not having a hot drink. I drink both coffee and tea and try most of the new fandangled options that are forever coming onto the market. I use hot drinks as a way to relax and socialise. Almost all my friends drink hot drinks so its a bit alien to me to not have them..

What thing(s) do you absolutely love but cant get your head around other people disliking??

OP posts:
ThisIsntMeHonestGuv · 27/07/2018 10:36

Caffeine makes me feel ill, so I don't drink tea. And I don't like coffee anyway.

I have an occasional hot chocolate or lemon and ginger tea, but usually I drink water, oj or Belvoir blueberry and blackcurrant cordial.

PerfectlyPosed · 27/07/2018 10:37

I judge people that don't drink tea.

SallyCinnamon3009 · 27/07/2018 10:37

I don't understand not drinking hot drinks. Feel awkward if someone is at my house and doesn't hot drinks- what do you offer them?? I always feel like a bad host that they don't have a hot drink

CoalTit · 27/07/2018 10:42

"Why is reading better than watching telly?"
Partly because you can do it silently, without subjecting everyone in the vicinity to what you're into.
This is a real bugbear in our house. Boyfriend likes to turn on the tv at high volume on entering the house, then start a conversation with me or, better still, go and sit in front of the computer and maybe watch videos.
He watches a show where people compete to renovate houses all very superficial, nothing about plumbing or heating or insulation, just decoration and another one where people marry someone they've never met. The superficiality of it, the desperate attention seeking and the contrived drama do my head in. When I read trashy books he doesn't have to hear every stupid, vapid word of them.
As you may have gathered, this s a bit of a sore point with me.
Another disadvantage of tv over reading is that adults might enjoy a dirty book and make it a best-seller but it doesn't mean you'll get thousands of kids passing their afternoons watching endless repeats of a show with constant jokes about prostitution, fellation and cunnilingus, plus occasional jokes about rape and child abuse (not to mention some really ugly stereotypes about homeless people, mentally ill people Latin American people and black Africans). That's what happened in Spain with the success of a series called "La que avecina", originally shown after 10pm.
Anyway, back to the OP: I can barely function without tea and I wish I was one of these weirdos who just drinks water.

Strange there was a phone in on radio 5 today about fears and one was fear of hot drinks. This bloke just couldn’t bare the thought of a hot drink touching his mouth.

BagelGoesWalking · 27/07/2018 10:47

Drinking a cup of tea and reading this!

Brother has never drink tea or coffee and his daughter doesn't either. My DD likes tea & coffee and DS likes coffee only. DD can't understand how I can drink tea in this hot weather but I do!

Accendo also have a hard time understanding how ppl don't read 😬

Liffydee · 27/07/2018 10:48

I have a coffee every morning but I’m not too fussed. I hardly ever drink tea. I prefer cold drinks especially in this heat.

ferrier · 27/07/2018 10:49

I don't like any hot drinks. Nothing to do with them being hot, just don't like the flavour. If it's freezing cold outside or I've got flu I might try not lemon squash which I like cold but when hot it makes me shudder a bit.

Dogs can smell but cats- there's no way you can tell I have cats from the way I smell!

I don't like the feeling of swimming except in an outside pool (or the sea) on a very hot day. Otherwise it's cold and chloriny.

cardibach · 27/07/2018 11:05

Horn drinks are actually more effective at keeping you cool, I seem to remember from school biology. A cold drink cools your body’s core, so it sets about trying to warm itself up again - shuts down sweating, vasodilation etc. A hot drink on the other hand...
I am also partial to a very cold Gand T though!

ToadOfSadness · 27/07/2018 12:05

I live on tea, builders tea minus the sugar most of the time, but when I am trying to be good it will be a de-caff with skimmed or semi skimmed milk, however it needs sugar as it is so revolting.

Coffee, only if it is weak enough that it doesn't leave a nasty lingering twang so has to be mostly full fat milk.

Cats tend to only smell if they are on meds, otherwise just a lovely smell of warm fur when you bury your nose in it. Dogs, always seem to smell of dog, still love them but won't have one.

Prosecco - I see no point to it at all, a decent unoaked and fruity red however, with no vanilla undertones or liquorice is worth the belly ache, loss of sleep and headache the next day. Would rather drink disinfectant than gin, they seem to be the same thing.

sar302 · 27/07/2018 12:38

I don't drink hot drinks (just don't like the taste), and have had people genuinely treat me with suspicion when I won't accept a cup of tea!! Grin

YorkieDorkie · 27/07/2018 12:43

DB has tea and coffee several times a day. I'll probably have a cup of coffee 4 times a year and less if I can help it with tea! I love coffee but it's not something I need so I don't bother... I always keep it in the house for the caffeine obsessed but you mustn't be too offended if your teabag is out of date Halo.

Andthatsthat · 27/07/2018 12:51

I don’t understand not liking hot drinks either.

And I also don’t understand the universal love of wine 🍷 it’s vile! But I get looked at like I’m slightly immature or unsophisticated if I suggest this in public I find.

adaline · 27/07/2018 12:54

I don't understand drinking squash. It tastes so artificial and leaves an awful aftertaste but so many people rave about it Confused I don't even find it very good for quenching your thirst.

amilosingitor · 27/07/2018 12:58

I'm nearly 32 and have never drink a hot drink in my life. I don't understand people who do!

The smell also turns my stomach. Especially tea. It’s very strange. I’m quite happy to drink water, milk, fizzy juice, diluting juice if I’m in someone else’s house. Those of you saying you don’t know what to offer, use your common sense...a cold drink 🙄

Sweetheart1313 · 27/07/2018 13:04

@Teeandmo50timesaday I'm with you on that, I must go through 2-3 bottles of orange squash a week Blush hot drinks are disgusting

charlestonchaplin · 27/07/2018 13:08

There is no moral superiority in keeping pets of any sort, especially dogs and cats. It's the opposite in fact. People keep animals to meet their selfish needs for companionship and as an outlet for their love and affection. Pets that don't come into being are never harmed or neglected.

Even pets that are in supposedly loving homes are essentially slaves to a greater or lesser degree, subject to the lordship of their owners. Even cat owners will be the ones to decide what and when to feed, whether the cat should be kept in or let out, whether to pursue treatment or put to sleep.

BackforGood · 27/07/2018 13:12

I'm with you OP. I somehow seem to have raised 3 adult dc, two of whom are complete weirdos in that they never drink any hot drinks. The other will have a fancy latte / cappuccino / hot chocolate but even she doesn't drink tea or coffee. No idea where these weird genes have come from. Shock

In their defence, I have taught them all how to make a decent cuppa, for me.

Gigis · 27/07/2018 13:44

A lot of the in jokes of my marriage centre around the fact that my husband is a HUGE coffee drinker and I can't stand the stuff. He seems to come home with a new coffee contraption every month.

Curiosity got the better of me and the other day I tried a sip. It was lush!

So now my marriage is a lie, divorce is the only option, obviously. I'm not having him crowing that he's 'converted' me!

bringincrazyback · 27/07/2018 13:47

I can't bear the taste of tea or coffee, regardless whether with or without milk. (According to my MIL my parents should have 'trained' me in childhood to like both drinks, but hey ho whatever! rolls eyes) It's not like it makes me a bad guest, as I'm completely happy with tap water if need be. Tea with milk is by far the worst for me, I've almost vomited every time I've taken even a sip of that. It's hard to explain, but my tastebuds can't seem to make any sense of tea at all, to me it doesn't even taste like something that's supposed to be drunk.

I can't understand...
... people who don't like chocolate.
... people who do like mushrooms.
... people who don't have any hobbies except watching TV.
... (on a related note) binge-viewing TV series - DH tries to make me do this, but two episodes at a time is my threshold or I just get bored of the story and want a break from it, even if I'm actually loving it.
... people who don't read books.
... the modern obsession with eating in restaurants, cookery shows, and food in general.
... and people who try to get me to drink tea and coffee. Grin (Trust me, it happens, even now I'm 50.)

puppymouse · 27/07/2018 13:52

Never drunk hot drinks! I am opposite to you that I can't understand why anyone would choose to have one other than to possibly just hold to keep their hands warm in winter.

It's either too hot or tepid, the chance of burning your mouth is high which bloody hurts and gives me the rage and you have to wait for it to cool down which also annoying as if I want a drink I want to be able to have some straight away. And what the eff is drinking tea in this weather all about? I want cold, refreshing and quick! It baffles me!

I don't even like carrying hot drinks as I am irrationally scared of burning myself.

Nobody asks or expects me to do the tea run at work, mind. Which is a bonus!

IDontEatFriedTurtle · 27/07/2018 13:54

Dh and I dont drink hot drinks and often forget to offer them to visitors. Friends have given up on hinting and now just take the kettle.

puppymouse · 27/07/2018 13:54

Second the poster who said they can't understand people who don't like dogs. I had a major breakthrough with a friend of DD's who's afraid of them this week and it felt amazing watching her pat our ddog. They're really special. I respect everyone's choices and preferences but I'm not overly comfortable with people who don't like or are frightened of dogs.

MissClareRemembers · 27/07/2018 13:54

A really well made cup of tea is like nectar. I love people who love tea.

I once found myself on the position of being sat in a group of non-hot drinkers at work. I returned from maternity leave to find that my usual colleagues were also now on mat leave and not one of their mat covers drank hot drinks. None of them. Shocking.
