Aibu MNHQ does not want us to debate brexit on the main boards

Just that.

Someone shared a link to the Independent's Final Say petition. The most important debate this nation can have right now is on the final brexit deal. This was promptly buried in the 'petitions' section.
This isn't any old petition. It concerns all mums/ citizens. If someone wants to share it with the wider MN community, they should be able to.

I thought you said you didn’t even live in the UK anymore - so why are you so angry about Brexit?

I

rainbowsandsmiles · 27/07/2018 09:50

There's a whole board for people wanting to talk about Brexit.
It's like me running into the litter tray board with everyone talking about their kittens and me shouting BUT I WANT TO TALK ABOUT MY LIVING ROOM COLOUR SCHEME, IT'S NOT FAIR, WHY WON'T YOU LET ME"

LoveInTokyo · 27/07/2018 09:55

Well my entire family and most of my friends live in the UK and I would quite like them not to suffer from avoidable food and drug shortages come next March. And I would quite like to be able to get on a plane and go and visit them. And for them to be able to get on a plane and come and visit me (and for them to be able to afford the tickets). And my parents both have some quite serious health conditions, so in the longer term I would be quite worried if the economy tanks and the country can't afford to pay for the NHS any more.

There are any number of reasons why I would still care about the country I am from, even if I am not currently living there. It's very odd of you to suggest otherwise.

Plus it's kind of embarrassing to have to admit to being British at the moment because most of the rest of the world thinks we're absolute morons, but that's quite a long way down my list of worries compared to my parents being able to access food, healthcare and short-haul travel.

rainbowsandsmiles · 27/07/2018 09:58

plus it's kind of embarrassing being British too for me at the moment because of the amount of posts that people have to read from people like yourself like a dog with a bone and catastrophising

Quietrebel · 27/07/2018 09:59

No, you're missing the point. There is no particular topic assigned to AIBU, right? It can be about anything at all, from parking issues to Trump. However a good number of threads started on brexit were promptly moved to their 'special corner'. It struck me and other posters that it was the only topic not 'tolerated' in aibu. Why? Posting for traffic on any topic is constantly done.
The Trump and trans threads are also very political so it didn't seem consistent to just move brexit threads. That's all.
Mind you they kept this one.

There is a whole board for posting on relationships but it doesn’t stop posters littering aibu with threads about in laws, partners, dcs etc

rainbowsandsmiles · 27/07/2018 10:05

It struck me and other posters that it was the only topic not 'tolerated' in aibu. Why?

Silencing the wimmin, innit who supposed to talk bout fluffy kittens and their handbags.
Least that's one crackers post I've seen in all seriousness the last couple of days.
Or maybe, you know, is because if they let all the Brexit posts stand in AIBU and Chat, the entire boards get bogged down by them. It's not just one continuous thread like the Trump one, you have to wade through them all to get to any other non related AIBU if you're not interested.

LoveInTokyo · 27/07/2018 10:05

rainbows, I'm willing to bet that most people reading my posts are British themselves, and the ones who aren't are nodding away in agreement.

Being embarrassed to be British implies that the cause of the embarrassment is something that will make people abroad think poorly of the UK.

That thing is Brexit. Criticising Brexit is simply saying what nearly everyone abroad is thinking.

rainbowsandsmiles · 27/07/2018 10:07

That's not even comparable - the relationship boards are for posting for advice, AIBU is more asking am I being unreasonable about my MIL wanting to babysit/DH eating all the cheese triangles and not leaving me any etc

GhostofFrankGrimes · 27/07/2018 10:08

Why were the countless World Cup threads not moved out of aibu then?

LoveInTokyo · 27/07/2018 10:09

Quietrebel I posted on the Brexit board before the referendum and there were two or three extremely prolific posters whose manner, style and frequency of posting strongly suggested that they were paid trolls. They were extremely goady and went out of their way to wind remainers up. Whenever a remainer snapped and said something rude, their post was immediately deleted by MNHQ. Some remainers even found that their accounts "mysteriously" stopped working. Nothing was ever done to censor the leavers in any way.

I believe MNHQ were actively in on it.

In for me,in for me, they all have it in for me!

Conspiracy theory tin foil hat alert right there.

Seasawride · 27/07/2018 10:12

If you honestly think Barnier has the power of life or death you are very innocent.

If we crash so do France and Germany. Our economies are intertwined through trade and still will be. A deal will be sorted by March this is just grandstanding.

Do you honestly think France and Germany will want to cope with the basket cases of Italy Greece etc who they have to prop up ever so often.

Metkel is very unpopular because of mass immigration, if her business leaders turn on her she’s toast.

Now let’s hope this gets moved soon.

Seasawride · 27/07/2018 10:14

Lovelyn

Yep mnhq probably rubbed out Diana and blew up the Twin Towers too.

For goodness sake not conspiracy theories now your anxiety levels must be through the roof.

YABU

I've enjoyed (and not enjoyed) debating Brexit on here from time to time, mostly on the dedicated board.

However I prefer it when it isn't dropped into threads so much that it's all over MN like a rash, with all the sneers, personal blame and backbiting that sadly and inevitably erupts.

Even if you must assume every Leave/Remain supporter is uneducated/selfish/undemocratic/remoaning/virtue-signalling/lazy/gammon/money-grabbing/xenophobic/old/well-off/poor/deluded/uninformed/extreme/whatever, surely it doesn't belong in what can seem like almost every thread?

Seasawride and rainbows

I didn't think that at first but as time went on it became more and more apparent.

And they all completely vanished the day after the referendum (job done), whereas the genuine ones such as Surfer are still here gloating.

Train101 · 27/07/2018 10:22

Why are you complaining you're being silenced when you have a whole talk section to your topic Grin.

rainbowsandsmiles · 27/07/2018 10:28

Actually, maybe this one should stay here (JUST this one, mind you Grin )
because it throws up some perspective onto what would be conspiracy theories like shown up a few posts ago - not just an echo chamber of people egging each other on and mass panicking together.

Seasawride · 27/07/2018 10:28

MotherOfFourDragons

If our economy crashes, period, we are intertwined through trade. We always will be and we need to trade with Europe as Europe needs to trade with us.

Barnier is a drunken messenger and hasn’t been very successful. The deals will be done by The political leaders as they won’t be re-elected if their economies crash and if we crash out without a deal the knock on will affect their economies.

Seasawride · 27/07/2018 10:29

Oh come on Lovelyn do you honestly really see mnhq as rabid brexiteers? Seriously

rainbowsandsmiles · 27/07/2018 10:29

Seaside - nooooo! I KNEW IT!!!

Shock Grin
rainbowsandsmiles · 27/07/2018 10:30
