Aibu MNHQ does not want us to debate brexit on the main boards

Just that.

Someone shared a link to the Independent's Final Say petition. The most important debate this nation can have right now is on the final brexit deal. This was promptly buried in the 'petitions' section.
This isn't any old petition. It concerns all mums/ citizens. If someone wants to share it with the wider MN community, they should be able to.

And Brexit IS hidden, it took me ages to find it, it's not on the list on the homepage).

Talk front page

Topics A-Z on the right of the talk topics bar

Scroll down

takes about 30 seconds. (if that)

Shortstuff08 · 26/07/2018 14:27

This is total rubbish. I have never been on the brexit section. I clicked talk (at the top of this page) and guessed it was going to be in 'other stuff'. Oh and it was....you me less than 10 seconds to find it. Would be slightly quicker or slower depending on internet connection.

It may take longer if you are new to mumsnet. But not ages. And it may take just as long to find other sections as well.

And the discussions are on the active page as well. Just as easy to find as the other sections.

Shortstuff08 · 26/07/2018 14:30

Well I certainly didn't say that.

Can you explain what you did mean?

Because to me it came across as 'if you don't want to read about brexit on mumsnet you clearly just can't be bothered at all'

As though mumsnet is the only portal for brexit. Or that only the discussions o mumsnet, regarding brexit, are the right ones. If you don't follow it here, you 're wrong.

What I meant was if you spend a lot of time on mumsnet and don't read the brexit threads, why would your choices be any different anywhere else? Forgive me if that was the wrong conclusion to draw

Of course it's the wrong conclusion. I do t see how you could have thought anything else. Mumsnet is not one thing for all people. Some people spend lots of time here, but don't use it as their news and information source. Assuming you must spend a lot of time here, so you must need it for your information is ridiculous. I am here quite a bit. I don't use it for information on my job, or decorating my house, or money management.

Also, maybe if you don't know where they are on here, as a reason why you've not read them, having them in AIBU would mean you wouldn't have to look too far if you wanted to see more.

It's ridiculously easy to find the brexit topic. And the threads will show in active topics, when they are posted on. If someone really wants to discuss brexit on mumsnet, it's not hard to find at all. That's the point. It's as easy or hard to find as any other topic.

You are scare-mongering and causing anxiety to readers as you provide no actual authenticated source for these assertions.

Brexit Minister Lord Callanan dismissed claims there were plans to stockpile food
"I am not aware of any plans for stockpiling food. It seems to me to be a fairly ridiculous scare story," he told the House of Lords
"There are many countries outside of the European Union that manage to feed their citizens perfectly satisfactorily without the benefit of EU processes."

From just one of your linked scaremongering stories.
But wrt stockpiling blood / drugs in the event of a no deal Brexit, that’s excellent news as it means we’re well prepared. Smile

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 15:28

Yes, we shouldn’t be discussing this topic in case we cause anxiety to readers.

We should let them live in cloud cuckoo land thinking everything is fine.

Hmm
LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 15:29

“why is Brexit apparently banned?”

Because MNHQ are quietly pro Brexit and don’t like people discussing what an utter fuckup the whole thing is.

Shortstuff08 · 26/07/2018 15:33

Motheroffourdragons

What do you mean by 'whatever. You drew the wrong conclusion.

You may see others opinions on mn and think about things differently. It doesn't follow if you don't want to seek out brexit on mn, then you aren't bothered at all.

Besides which, I have been here years. Around election time, if you took mumsnet as the source for information, you would think Labour would easily win each time. Except they don't. Just because it's in mn doesn't mean its right, accurate or anything else.

It's not hard to find. I, and another poster found it in under 30 seconds. It's no more easy or hard to find than any other topic.

borntobequiet · 26/07/2018 15:35

It's easy to pick and choose quotes from a source that's trying to be balanced. This is the Health Secretary, quoted in the same BBC article:
The NHS in England is preparing to stockpile medicines and blood products in case of a "no deal" Brexit, Health Secretary Matt Hancock has said.
He said he was confident a deal would be reached but it was "responsible" to prepare for all outcomes.
He told the Health Select Committee he had met medical industry leaders to "accelerate" preparations since taking over as health secretary two weeks ago.
The government is stepping up planning for a "no deal" Brexit.

It certainly doesn't contradict my original "scaremongering" assertion.

And Brexit was going to be so wonderful! So various, so beautiful, so new! And so easy! Everyone would fall over themselves trying to sign trade deals with us.
In reality - preparations to stockpile medicines against disaster.
And Jean Claude Juncker making pals with Trump and a free trade deal between the EU and USA on the cards. Which would be good for us (possibly) until when? Next March.

rainbowsandsmiles · 26/07/2018 15:41

I totally agree. It's the same over and over again. It's probably making people care less.

Me three to this.
I voted Remain, but even I think give it a bloody rest already. We lost.
It reminds me of my little kids having a tantrum and upending the Monopoly board because they're sore losers.
By going on and on about how s'not fair it turns more and more people off.

ClashCityRocker · 26/07/2018 15:44

Where is the petition board anyway?

I've had a quick look but can't find it. I wish they'd just list all sections in alphabetical order. Or have it as an option.

rainbowsandsmiles · 26/07/2018 15:48

Never been on it, but just had a look - found it in less than ten seconds. It's really not hard.

ClashCityRocker · 26/07/2018 15:52

OK I've found it - it's under classified.

I had looked in 'other stuff' 'mumsnet stuff' and a couple of others where I thought it might logically be.

I mean, it wasn't an urgent thorough search for it. It just wasn't where I thought it would be. I thought classified would be things for sale etc.

I only found it by opening each sub heading in order. Can you search for topics?

Train101 · 26/07/2018 15:56

Or you could just Google petitions or whatever topic you want.

Want to fine brexit, Google brexit mumsnet and it comes up tada

Shortstuff08 · 26/07/2018 16:04

It's in classifieds because is an advert of sorts.

Brexit is in other stuff.

Or Google 'mumsnet petitions it's the first link.

Shortstuff08 · 26/07/2018 16:04

And again, it's no easier or harder to find any particular section.

Seasawride · 26/07/2018 16:49

The trump threads hsve been a subject of an academic paper

Most subjects have. My db did his dissertation on the absorption of a flies colon.

Still boring

Seasawride · 26/07/2018 16:56

I think when you get to a certain age and remember The Cold War, protect and survive, the winter of discontent, the miners strikes, the poll tax riots and the 80s riots, black Wednesday, 3 massive recessions, aids, mad cow apocalypse blah blah blah to be honest Brexit is really a spat between neighbours who need each other and a deal will be cobbled together.

Britain will be fine and Europe will b fine.

This constant hysterical hectoring of people who won’t agree its Armageddon next May with hoards of people rioting in chipping Camden and hospitals running out of Medicines and planes dropping from the sky!! It’s boring.

We have seen it all before so calm down.

borntobequiet · 26/07/2018 16:57

Why would absorption of a fly's colon be boring?

It's this sort of research that saves lives 100 years down the line sometimes.
