Aibu MNHQ does not want us to debate brexit on the main boards

Just that.

Someone shared a link to the Independent's Final Say petition. The most important debate this nation can have right now is on the final brexit deal. This was promptly buried in the 'petitions' section.
This isn't any old petition. It concerns all mums/ citizens. If someone wants to share it with the wider MN community, they should be able to.

People got pissed off and asked for it's own section

and as ever those who shout loudest

Even though the majority of MN users couldn't care less.

I don't understand MNHQ at times. Really offensive language is fine. Mention Brexit. and you're relegated to a board nobody can find.

I'm obsessed with BREXIT & would still like it banished to specific sections. I also don't like AIBU being a kitchen sink topic. yabu

mother Well there is a horrible, pretty gratuitous one on child abuse that's just popped up. Does nothing to further any debate on a really serious subject. But you see that's click bait of the lowest order and as I bet they're whores for ad revenue they'll leave that one up for sure. I call out hypocrisy. And will take a break from MN. I'm disgusted with the double stantards.

Confused

It's not in a secret parallel universe no-one can find, it's literally right there with all the rest of the topics for anyone who wants to go there.

PanGalaticGargleBlaster · 26/07/2018 13:50

I think there is general Brexit-fatigue that now borders on total antipathy. I follow the issues on a personal level but I simply can't be arsed reading Brexit threads on here or any other forum as it is the same people rehashing the same arguments and slinging the same insults at each other. Both camps are so entrenched and bitter there is zero chance of any compromise with one another let alone civilised debate.

Shortstuff08 · 26/07/2018 13:54

and as ever those who shout loudest

No. People asked for a actual section for it, they got it. This usually happens in site stuff.

The people who felt it shouldn't have it's own section or didn't care, didnt post. Or at least not as much.

Mn will go with the majority of users and look at what they are asking for.

Petitions belong in petitions.
Brexit belongs in Brexit.

If anyone is interested they will already be reading those topics.
I'm sure the rest of us get our Brexit-y debates on Twitter and other SM.

YABU.

Shortstuff08 · 26/07/2018 13:55

PanGalaticGargleBlaster I totally agree. It's the same over and over again.

It's probably making people care less.

Well if you can't be arsed to read the threads on mumsnet, I'm guessing you don't read anything on twitter or other SM either.

How terribly patronising.

It certainly sounds patronising. If your only pipeline to Brexit news and debate is Mumsnet, you've probably got other, bigger problems.

Shortstuff08 · 26/07/2018 14:06

Well if you can't be arsed to read the threads on mumsnet, I'm guessing you don't read anything on twitter or other SM either.

It's a baseless assumption.

I am very well versed on brexit. I wanted to stay and am extremely concerned about it. However, I don't feel that it follows that brexit threads should be able to clog the most popular board. Especially when they are all the same.

Mn is not the be all and end all of brexit discussions. If you can't get what you want here, discuss brexit elsewhere.

Not wanting to discuss it on mn does not mean you don't (or don't want to) understand it and discuss elsewhere.

BoneyBackJefferson · 26/07/2018 14:09

ShackUp
Funny how it's Leavers who don't want to discuss Brexit because it's going tits up as predicted

Yup, absolutely nothing to do with the regurgitated name calling that it inevitably descends in to.

runningkeenster · 26/07/2018 14:10

Well ultimately I could go through every single post in AIBU and say it should be somewhere else on this board.

And Brexit IS hidden, it took me ages to find it, it's not on the list on the homepage).

As for hearing it over and over again I find the constant P&C space posts and wheelchair versus buggy posts tedious, not to mention the variations on am I BU to have only one child.

I also find it annoying that so many threads are deleted. Lots of people have moaned about that, and it still happens far too often, so MNHQ clearly only listen to the chosen few.

drearydeardre · 26/07/2018 14:11

born
There is no one and no organisation in the UK that won't be adversely affected by Brexit. The adverse effects are already evident - we are all worse off already than we would have been if there had been no Referendum, as our economy is the slowest growing in Europe.
Anyone who is already struggling financially or has health difficulties should at this point be very very worried. Jobs are at risk and though (reportedly) the Government is stockpiling medications, there may well be a shortage of the essential medicines you need, as well as all but basic foodstuffs.
YABVU - as this is in AIBU - this is why Brexit has its own topic (as well as petitions)
You are scare-mongering and causing anxiety to readers as you provide no actual authenticated source for these assertions.

BoneyBackJefferson · 26/07/2018 14:11

Quietrebel

It got its own section because of the massive bunfight that happened every time it was mentioned.

Not to mention that any time Brexiters where "invited to debate" it was almost exactly the opposite that happened.

LoveInTokyo · 26/07/2018 14:13

MNHQ are clearly pro Brexit and will only permit it to be discussed on the Brexit board which only a handful of people actually look at.

This has been patently obvious for over two years.

They also let paid trolls leavers post whatever goady bollocks they like, but will delete/censor remainers at the drop of a hat.

GerdaLovesLili · 26/07/2018 14:15

Not patronising either ? Not nearly as patronising as suggesting the poor uneducated readers of Mumsnet need the mighty politically active posters of MN to guide them out of the darkness.

Lol - it’s as easy to find as any other board.
