Replacing my 'normal bras' with bralettes and sports bras.

Raven88 · 25/07/2018 17:19

I ask because I don't want to embarrass my DH/family when I am out or get in trouble at work.

I am small chested 38b and normal bras never fit me right, I always get back fat or they don't fit right and they ride up. Today I bought some different types of sports/bralettes and they look so much better. Am I breaking a rule by wearing these all the time now. I'm 30 and a size 18 5ft 8 and hold most of my weight in my middle. My style is pretty relaxed and my work dress code is basically nothing revealing but we can wear what ever we want.

OP posts:

I'm jealous. I wish I could! They are so more comfortable but they don't make them in a J cup!

But you do realise you don't HAVE to wear any type of bra at all, don't you?

NynaeveSedai · 25/07/2018 17:22

What rule? How would you embarrass your DH? Confused who can see your bra?

I have started wearing bralettes in this heat as they are much more comfortable but they don't provide as much support. It does make me look different in clothes but only I would notice as I don't have big breadts.

Mymouthgetsmeintrouble · 25/07/2018 17:25

Nope , comfort is the way forward i only wear a lightly padded non wired bra and im quite busty but since breastfeeding i cant stand the feeling of wires or lace or even anything too uplifting or push togethery

monkeysox · 25/07/2018 17:36

I can't stand my boobs moving round and feel much smarter in a well fitting bra. (That is also comfortable)

Sirzy · 25/07/2018 17:38

If your comfy that’s all that matters.

Personally I don’t see how a sports bra could be comfy for all day wear

fixingabrokenhesrt · 25/07/2018 17:41

I highly suggest looking at boob or bust as it sounds like you've just never found the right size

ZestyDragon · 25/07/2018 17:44

Size 20 here with 40c boobs. I wear bralets from marks and Spencer’s and they are fine. No one notices.

Sammilouwho · 25/07/2018 17:46

I recently did this! Got loads from M&S - £9.50 and they do for bigger busts too!! - ever since being pregnant last year I can’t cope with the underwires, I did keep one smart underwired bra for fancy occasions though. Nobody has said any different and DH says he hasn’t noticed the difference from a normal bra so I say go for it :)

Rednaxela · 25/07/2018 17:47

I bet you are not a 38 back.

HTH

CrystalHCarrington · 25/07/2018 18:00

I am small chested 38b and normal bras never fit me right,

You need to go for a proper bra fitting. A well fitting bra is life changing.

bitingcat · 25/07/2018 18:07

I had an operation six months ago which meant I couldn't wear a "proper" bra till I had healed. Till then I alway wore traditional (properly fitted) bras. No more! I bought some sports type bras and it was a revalation, they are soooo much more comfortable! Go for it, life is too short for uncomfortable underwear!

GladAllOver · 25/07/2018 18:10

But you do realise you don't HAVE to wear any type of bra at all, don't you?

This a thousand times! With your shape a bra is entirely optional.

QueenOfMyDomain · 25/07/2018 18:10

I wear them as I have sensory issues and can’t stand tight fitting clothes. They are brilliant, I haven’t worn a proper bra for years. Luckily I am fairly flat chested so never had a problem.

ChanklyBore · 25/07/2018 18:12

I literally just walked out of marks and spencer having tried approximately sixteen bras on with the same thought in my head.

I asked the assistant why don’t any of the bras fit....she didn’t know. I asked her why there were so few in ‘smaller’ back sizes, as I’m not small, but struggle to find things small enough. She told me I was tiny!

I’m really, really not (only a little shorter than you OP and a middling size 12)

I put all the bras back and left. Stupid boobs.

MsHippo · 25/07/2018 18:14

I've done this! I now wear bralettes from M&S or gap most days. I only wear a 'real' bra if an outfit specifically demands it. I have small boobs and I actually think a more natural, less padded look suits me, makes me look slimmer, and is 'in' at the moment, as well as them being much comfier!

monkeysox · 25/07/2018 18:15

Chankly m and s are shite for bras.
Go to bravissimo or debenhams or a local independent.
If you're big of natural boob try fantasise.
Anne summers fit nicely if you've been enhanced.

Clionba · 25/07/2018 18:19

I wear sports bras often. They're comfy and give fantastic support without wiring. Great in the heat as well!

Purplestorm83 · 25/07/2018 18:24

Sounds like some of you need to look here:

www.molke.co.uk

OneStepSideways · 25/07/2018 18:33

I always wear bralettes! I don't see the point of a bra with underwiring and separate cups unless you need the support. Bralettes are stretchy and more comfortable, and I don't have to worry about flashing cleavage at work as they look like a vest top under clothes.

CountArthursgroupie · 25/07/2018 18:37

Me too, they're so comfy and come in lovely colours!

ChanklyBore · 25/07/2018 18:38

I know m and s are shite. But I wasn’t asking them to fit me, just ranting at them about why an average sized woman cannot get a bra to fit in their shop. I figured I’d fit myself - clearly that didn’t work but mainly because apparently they don’t have the range.

I am not an odd shape, nor am I petite. Fuck knows what people who are actually do. If they can’t find a bra to fit around a 5 and a half foot size 12 woman how the hell will they manage to fit my pre-teen DD at under 5 foot and struggling to fill an adult size 6?

likeacrow · 25/07/2018 18:42

I like a bralette for at home. Prefer a proper bra for out & about to give the illusion of some kind of shape. (I'm a 34A.)

NorthenderNamechanger · 25/07/2018 18:44

There are no rules about bras, as long as youre wearing a top over it at work.

If the Molke ones aren't your thing (they arent mine - only boring colours in my size), then Freya do a big range of bralettes which are more "sexy" and lacy.

Im also partial to a supermarket "bag bra" you know the full cup cotton ones with no underwiring or padding that arent showy enough for a hanger. They make my boobs look great under anything just wish more places made them in a 30 or 32 back. 😔

CardsforKittens · 25/07/2018 18:51

OP, my friend is about the same size as you and complained of her 38B bras riding up. She's now wearing 34D/E instead, which fixed the problem. But if you prefer bralets, wear them! (I would wear them if I could but no one makes them big enough, sob.)

StoatOfManyColours · 25/07/2018 18:53

No reason why OP couldn’t be a 38 back, she’s a size 18. I’m a size 16-18 and wear a 38.
