... on the assumption that you are! This isn't the thread for negativity! Mine are:

  • knowing what clothes to wear each day
  • sitting out in the evening and talking with DP instead of watching TV/doing admin
  • actually drinking Pimms rather than having a bottle going fusty at the back of the cupboard
  • being able to confidently plan outings/outdoor social events

Picnics in the Park
drinks on the rooftop bar
visiting the lido on the weekend
beautiful bike rides
summer dresses and sandals

PestoSurfissimos · 24/07/2018 22:30

I like having the windows open and smelling the countryside.
Being able to live in swimmers & shorts.
Not having to worry about taking a coat or a jumper.
Making the most of my pool or the beach.
Going for walks in the evening when it is still light and not being cold.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 24/07/2018 22:31

The most I’m enjoying is not having to take a jacket or jumper anywhere, I hate wearing them and defo hate carrying them around. Although this is far too hot for me, my perfect temp would be 21, I’m always hot in winter so th8s is a struggle especially being where I live we’ve had the heatwave for 8 weeks 🤒

maitaimojito · 24/07/2018 22:36

Being able to leave the house without thinking ‘have I got a coat/umbrella/jumper’.

Driving to and from work in the sunshine.

BBQs every weekend.

Being able to sit outside on an evening.

Having a tan without being aboard.

Being able to work outside without having to shield my clipboard from the rain.

Stepping out of the air conditioned office to feel the warmth of the sun.

It’s this type of weather that makes me think I’d like to live abroad where I don’t have the cold, dark winters to deal with. I feel so much happier with more energy when the sun is shining.

Bexta147 · 24/07/2018 22:39

The fact that I no longer look like I’ve crawled out of a coffin.

My hair is getting lighter which will save me dying it for a while,

Everyone is much happier in general.

Sophisticatedsarcasm · 24/07/2018 22:44

My son is so tanned he looks like a little Mediterranean boy 😊 he tans so easily, thankfully has my genes not his dad who burns like a bitch the minute he walks in the sun 🤣🤣

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 24/07/2018 22:47

Getting swetty bedsheets washed on a morning and being able to get all 5 beds done in 2 loads and on the line before half 9, freshly flapping without much fuss.

My boys sleeping so well, think its the noise of the fan in their room- youngest has adhd (and a few other probs) and will usually not settle until very late after much mucking on (looking for white noise machine on amazon).

Being able to take kids out without worrying about wet wheelchair and leg due to oldest son having an external fixator frame for a very nasty break (12 weeks left and counting).

Have not been loving the heat to be honest, but its quite refreshing to be finding good things about it rather than my usual moaning.

Oh- and i have been able to clean the carpets without worrying about them being damp in the morning still!

The flip side is more bed changing though. I know this is meant to be a positive thread, but surely I'm not alone in hating changing bedding (whilst loving the fresh bedding smell and feeling)

Heaviestdirtyestsoul · 24/07/2018 23:06

Hmmm... you have a point... other stuff still stands though 😁

kitnkaboodle · 24/07/2018 23:08

thanks all! Clothing is a big factor, obviously! I love seeing people in bright, floaty clothes. Other ones I've thought of ... watermelon .... stargazing on nights like this. Never realised there was so much going on up there (ISS and other satellites, etc) then realising you've been outside til bedtime. The forecast I've looked at says no let up in sight right into August. Its astonishing - and definitely exceptional for an English summer. 27/28 degrees where I live pretty much consistently ..

Hate the heat but love the fact that there is so little laundry to do we are wearing less and I haven't washed and ironed a duvet cover since I don't know when because we are just sleeping under a sheet. Also I enjoy salad food so that is nice .... but sorry will be glad when it ends!

AstonMartini · 24/07/2018 23:11

Absolutely everything. I love it, love it, love it. End of story.

AstonMartini · 24/07/2018 23:13

And again: I love it. There isn't anything about it I don't like. I want it to stay like this forever, even if I have to wash my bedding every day and buy fans so I have a couple of hours kip. I hope I have made this clear. I love it. I have been waiting for this since 197sodding4.

MistressDeeCee · 24/07/2018 23:14

-Brighter days, people in a better mood
-Strolling over Waterloo Bridge after midnight last week in a sleeveless dress

  • Lower heating bill
  • Relaxing in garden in the evening with OH & a nice bottle of wine (sometimes!)
-Planning a day at the coast next week, on beach all day with a good book
AstonMartini · 24/07/2018 23:14

And in case I didn't make myself quite clear enough: I love it.

GingerLDN · 24/07/2018 23:15

I hate summer. Looking on the bright side though fruit tastes better and there’s nothing more refreshing than a freezing cold coke on a hot day.

Bluelady · 24/07/2018 23:21

The sky is so clear tonight, the stars are amazing.

Mrsharrison · 24/07/2018 23:25

The blue sky
Walking around barefoot
Glowy skin
Arm hairs turned blond
Eating salad
Never ever feeling cold

kitnkaboodle · 24/07/2018 23:40

Aston - you might find that was 1976 ... I remember it well ... a long time to wait- but it feels very similar.

All of it

Not doing that iPhone thing we’re great weather is a few days away and never arrives

And luckily not being at work, which would make stare out the window longingly

SleightOfMind · 24/07/2018 23:49

Lovely, lovely, long summer evenings.
We don’t get these in the tropics. It’s a special end of the hemisphere thing.
It might be ‘summer all day long’ but come evening, the sun sets like a a stone.

MarcieBlue · 24/07/2018 23:55

Summer clothes

Not having to wear socks

Vitamin d

Not being cold! I hate getting into the shower in the cold.

LellyMcKelly · 24/07/2018 23:55

Driving down to my boyfriend’s flat near the sea after a hard day at work, grabbing a disposable barbecue, a packet of sausages and a few cold beers, and heading to the beach. It’s not Brighton or a fancy tourist destination, but it’s perfect. We just sit for ages, watching the sun go down, and container ships and ferries going by in the distance, and paddle about in the water to cool down no and again.

LoniceraJaponica · 24/07/2018 23:59

The heat
Not having to use my tumble dryer
Making £££ from our solar panels
Being able to wear my lovely summer dresses and maxi dresses
Not wearing socks
Being able to see properly – I am very short sighted and don’t see well in dim light
Going on holiday with a sun tan already acquired at home
Beautiful sunsets

“I have been waiting for this since 197sodding4.”

1976 and 1995 were notably long, hot and dry summers.

“at least people who live on the streets or in houses they can't afford to heat are having some warm nights.”

I’m with you on this Mogle

BUT our reservoirs are dangerously low, and we desperately need rain.
