to wish my name wouldn't always come up in the baby names threads?

NC for this. My name always comes up in the baby names threads. Always as 'dated' or 'common' or 'chavvy' etc etc. Sick of seeing my name slagged off and I never felt down about it until mn. To the point that I have hidden the baby names threads and never read them, even though we are currently trying to think of a name for DC1. AIBU to think that we don't think of these things when we slag off other people's names on the internet? That people actually have these names? Sad

@mrjoepike that's my daughters middle name and I absolutely adore it. If she'd been a boy it would still have been the middle name

Nannamia · 24/07/2018 00:12

FlyingElbows Thanks for the laugh. My grandmother looked at my Mum and thought "Maureen". Mum's about to turn 86 and still hates it!

mrjoepike · 24/07/2018 00:14

my sons are hunter and martin/twins.people would ask me why i gave one a storng name and the other a wimpy name.!had to point out that martin means warrior(mars god of war)they go by marty and hunt .

WhenTheSharkBites · 24/07/2018 00:17

Ihatemycar · 24/07/2018 00:17

Runningbutnotscared · 24/07/2018 00:21

I’m really coming around to Balonz

NotUmbongoUnchained · 24/07/2018 00:25

I love Balonz!

madamginger · 24/07/2018 00:28

My DD has an unusual name that’s always slagged off on here but a don’t give a fuck, I love it as does dh and DD. She’s named after my dad and it means a lot to me.

CookPassBabtridge · 24/07/2018 00:36

Just ignore them, all names are hated by some people. My sons name is always mentioned as a nickname and that he should have the full name on birth certificate (he doesn't) but I don't care. That opinion will die out.

shinyredbus · 24/07/2018 00:40

Ha ha I’ve seen my sons name on here and I’m mildly offended the poster said his name is usually associated with a naughty child - he is the best child in the world! Hahahahaha. Kidding - he’s insanely mischievous and I love him!

—Chloe— OP - stop being so silly - who cares what a bunch of people think? Are you a good person? Are you well liked? Yes?? Then your all good.

TheClaws · 24/07/2018 00:50

Cindy?

Slapdasherie · 24/07/2018 00:53

Either Charlene or Crystal, I'm betting.

But who cares? I love names like Persephone (and also dislike Tracy and Sharon) and apparently that makes me a racist snob. Shrug.

My name is never mentioned anywhere, it is so horrendously boring, it's doesn't even register any hate.

My DD's name on the other hand has been described as ugly and harsh. Still love it.

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 24/07/2018 00:56

Ffs are we still guessing?

Aintnothingbutaheartache · 24/07/2018 01:00

Has no one actually caught on to the fact that you don’t ever ask people their opinion on names!
We choose names for our babies for reasons, everyone has a different opinion, and then we get offended if others don’t agree.
I for one couldn’t give a shiny shite what OP’s name is

GinIsIn · 24/07/2018 01:03

Oh. So Kayleigh or Madison then.

Look OP, if you like your name then what on Earth does it matter what random women off the Internet think?

Zoflorabore · 24/07/2018 01:14

I'm thinking Ashley?

Whatever it is op it can't be as bad as mineGrin

A 40 year old Elaine. And I've not bothered to name change either.

AhoyDelBoy · 24/07/2018 01:27

What’s wrong with the name Elaine? Yes I second Crystal Grin

80sMum · 24/07/2018 01:29

Some names do go out of date quite quickly and are very much of their time. I guarantee that if you gathered a random group of 30 English women aged between 50 and 70, at least 3 will be called Sue! You'll also be bound to have a Pat amongst them, a Val, a Linda, an Amanda a Jacqueline, a couple of Carols and a pair of Jans!
Older women, aged 80 to 95 will be a different set of names. In that group you will likely find Dorothy, Barbara, Sheila, Marjorie, Rita, Jean, Gladys, Pauline, Rosemary, Shirley etc.
Eventually, most names regain popularity. What goes around, comes around. My DD's name was deeply unpopular, outside the top 200, when she was born in the early 80s. By the time she was mid 20s, it had risen to the top 5 and in one year it was the most frequently given girls' name!

Zoflorabore · 24/07/2018 01:35

There was a thread on here a couple of months ago about Elaine as a baby name and most people said it's an old person name Blush so I hate it even more now!

Greenyogagirl · 24/07/2018 01:36

I hate my name, I’ve never met another yogagirl and it’s never on the threads at all it’s that crap!
Ds name is common now apparently and his full name (first-hyphenated) is becoming more mainstream.
Also was a thread about names a while back and it was about if a name was dated, it’s my mums name and my middle name and the comments were hilarious about how bad it would be.
Could you use a nick name?

timshortfforthalia · 24/07/2018 01:40

Did you know Balonz is/was the name of a prolific poster on the music forum drowned in sound? Best trolling ever

MrsFoxPlus4 · 24/07/2018 01:44

Its Balonz, Fabio or Kevin

Semster · 24/07/2018 01:56

Look on the bright side OP, you're not called Sunshine.

Confuzzlediddled · 24/07/2018 02:05

It could be worse OP, my name is Wendy, if you're not already aware that's a name that's used on here to describe someone who alienates people and steals thier friends!
