to wish my name wouldn't always come up in the baby names threads?

NC for this. My name always comes up in the baby names threads. Always as 'dated' or 'common' or 'chavvy' etc etc. Sick of seeing my name slagged off and I never felt down about it until mn. To the point that I have hidden the baby names threads and never read them, even though we are currently trying to think of a name for DC1. AIBU to think that we don't think of these things when we slag off other people's names on the internet? That people actually have these names? Sad

Why are people saying Chloe?!

Age 23 - I'm going to say Lauren? Only because I can remember loving this name as a teen around the same time you were born. And I still like it!

Only slightly chavvy names I can recall from this era is Jordan - and that being prior to Jordan!

I take your point though OP it would irk me if it was incessant.

My name always seems to be the bitch character on TV so I'm clearly typecast!

AfterSchoolWorry · 23/07/2018 23:32

Just making guesses!

TheFaerieQueene · 23/07/2018 23:35

Not everyone will like your name, just as you won’t like other names. It really doesn’t matter. It is just unknown people expressing their opinions- which is what a forum like this is all about.

FlyingElbows · 23/07/2018 23:35

Maureen? Who looks at a baby and thinks "Maureen"?

haribosmarties · 23/07/2018 23:36

Mine is apparently completely ridiculous and my parents should have realised they were naming an actual child who would grow to be a woman who may never get taken seriously....

I like my name and I think people take me pretty seriously when I want them to?

Also I once stupidly put the actual name of my son on a baby names thread and got some intense insults like 'is that even a name?' 'isnt that a type of desert?'

Millybingbong · 23/07/2018 23:36

I know your name. i think
More commonly known in north America.

I didn't used to rate it but I have a friend called it too who I love so now I love the name.

Clionba · 23/07/2018 23:36

I like the name Michaela!
My dear friend from university is called Tracey and she's an absolute sweetheart. I would have been tempted to call my daughter after her, and in her honour! Shame it's got negative connotations. I met a young woman called Muriel recently, which I thought was charming.

SheGotBetteDavisEyes · 23/07/2018 23:38

My name is a very old one, very unusual and rarely heard in this country, but I have a feeling that if it ever popped up, it wouldn't be a MN winner Grin.

YerAuntFanny · 23/07/2018 23:40

My name is so ill thought of that if you search it on here there is not 1 single positive comment BUT it rarely gets mentioned because it's very dated of its time. I like to think of it as mid-80's chic as I know a few IRL and we were all born over 86/87!

My DH name is mentioned all the time with mixed reception, DS has a common "naughty" name and Dd's name isn't mentioned much but when it is it's mostly positive.

Anyway, what I'm saying is don't pay any attention. It's just a word you were given to identify you, it means nothing really!

PhilomenaFogg · 23/07/2018 23:40

Whatever you name yr child OP someone won't like it! Just be sure that you do and the initials are ok together.

IhopeyoulikeNavantoo · 23/07/2018 23:40

Someone called my name boring on a thread. I don't care - I have realised that some people on mn think Serafina and Persephone are sensible, non - pretentious names, so obviously I am on another planet. I will take boring any day!

PhilomenaFogg · 23/07/2018 23:41

I know that wasn't the idea behind the thread but as you just mentioned it seems a bit more relevant for you.

pigeondujour · 23/07/2018 23:42

There's some really horrible snobbishness and racism/anti-Irish sentiment re baby names on here. Viciously slagging off names like Tracy and Sharon while getting excited over Ophelia and Seraphina instead is just embarrassing - it always makes me think who are you, fucking Hans Christian Andersen?

BlackCloudofGloom · 23/07/2018 23:42

YABU in expecting people to be polite about names which are under discussion on a 'baby names' thread, because the whole point of these is to ask opinions. But YANBU to hide them if they annoy you. My name (Emily) was unusual and old-fashioned when I was at school - almost like being called Bertha or Edna. Now it's popular and classy. Maybe your name is due for a revival, too?

Spellitforme · 23/07/2018 23:50

Nc for this! Someone I know has shortened their dcs names to Tilly and Tabby-now if that doesn't sound like a pair of cats then whose does?! Who cares-their choice. Once people have been introduced they are judged on their personality rather than name.

NoMudNoLotus · 23/07/2018 23:52

Its definitely Balonz .

arethereanyleftatall · 23/07/2018 23:54

Is it Chardonnay?

As an aside, I don't think Tracy is 'bad' anymore. Sure it was in the 90s, but that's all kind of forgotten now, imo.

WhenTheSharkBites · 23/07/2018 23:56

@Clionba you and my parents makes three!

FuckMePinkAndCallMeCedric · 23/07/2018 23:59

Meh. My daughter’s name is often used as an example of a common name and sometimes as chavvy. Interestingly she is the only one in her entire school despite the name featuring in the top 10 girls names for the last decade or so.

I couldn’t give a fuck. I chose the name because I like it and as it goes so does she. I wouldn’t use MN baby name threads as an example of balanced opinions. Have you seen what some people suggest?! Confused Grin

mrjoepike · 24/07/2018 00:02

i am batmans sidekick,a bird with a red breast and a boys knickname.got teased all thru school.
don't give your name a thought, next year it will be in the"oh thats a lovely name"catagory.what other people think is not important.
my name was a well thought out one from mom who wanted to name me after my dad and gf but didn't want to name me roberta(apologies to any robertas)because she said she just knew my 6 uncles would call me bert[grin}i really hated my name til i was about 25 then realized there aren't many of us around.
dc friends called me bigbird(5'11)
do not stress over this
girl with a perfect name.

PinguDance · 24/07/2018 00:02

If it makes you feel any better I find the baby names part of mumsnet unintentionally hilarious - it’s fascinating what people come up with on there.

Soubriquet · 24/07/2018 00:04

Woah....I just saw my name on this thread. Spelt differently but still

No one ever says it Grin

But yeah why bother NC if you aren't going to disclose the name?

mrjoepike · 24/07/2018 00:04

oh and i was named this in the 50's/not as a new age or hippy name.altho i do know 2 sunshines, and a rainbow.known as sunny and rain!

Mamabear2181 · 24/07/2018 00:05
