Tesco staff member verbally abusing my step daughter

mrSteely · 21/07/2018 18:03

My 13 year-old step-daughter was verbally abused and threatened by a tesco staff member. They even chased her through the store. Tescos then told my step-daughter when she informed the duty manager, that they would have a word with the staff member,

I then spent 4 days calling and emailing to complain, finally getting hold of the store manager 5 days later at 7 in the evening (I had to chase them up on it)

The result of a staff member threatening a child in the store? £15 in tescos coupons and a letter apologising for the alleged abuse (it was caught on CCTV, which I requested but still haven't received, and probably never will)
the staff member is still working in the store and still makes my step-daughter uncomfortable when entering the store.

Do you think I'm being unreasonable in wanting the staff member fired? Considering I really should have involved the police?

What was your daughter doing to be threatened by the member of staff?
What outcome would you have wanted? Them to have lost their job?

Walkerbean16 · 21/07/2018 18:06

why was she threatening and abusing your step daughter?

yawning801 · 21/07/2018 18:07

Bit of context needed here, as PPs have said.

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/07/2018 18:07

What's the story behind the member of staff verbally abusing and chasing her?

mrSteely · 21/07/2018 18:08

she was buying something for her lunch on the way to school.

I dont think that firing the person would be unreasonable would it? An adult bullying a 13 year old is bad enough but for them not to lose their job seems to me like tescos dont care about it.

Maybe I should have gone to the police instead

What did they actually say / do and why did they choose your SD?

arethereanyleftatall · 21/07/2018 18:08

There isn't enough info there to comment on. Why was she being chased and threatened through the store?

GertrudeCB · 21/07/2018 18:08

I can't give an opinion without knowing the circumstances.

ginandnappies · 21/07/2018 18:08

I'm struggling to see why a member of staff would do that if she was just simply buying her lunch?

Pengggwn · 21/07/2018 18:08

Come on, OP. Give the context. If a staff member at Tesco, for no reason at all, gave your SD a mouthful of abuse and scared her, then obviously YANBU. But is that what happened?

DearMrDilkington · 21/07/2018 18:09

Supermarket employees don't start randomly harrassing teenagers instore for fun.

C'mon what did she really do?

GreatDuckCookery6211 · 21/07/2018 18:09

she was buying something for her lunch on the way to school

Right, but where's the context? Why did she get chased and verbally abused?

HildaZelda · 21/07/2018 18:10

Why did a staff member 'chase her through the store'? Confused

InfiniteSheldon · 21/07/2018 18:10

Is trust the staff member over a 13 year old and tell her not to do whatever she did again

Allthewaves · 21/07/2018 18:10

What's the back story?

LoniceraJaponica · 21/07/2018 18:10

I very much doubt that a memeber of staff would have verbally abused a 13 year old without provocation. I think you need to find out eaxctly what happened. 13 year olds are very good at embroidering the truth. I'm sure there will be some CCTV footage that shows what happened.

Fitzsimmons · 21/07/2018 18:10

There's a lot to this story missing I think.

arethereanyleftatall · 21/07/2018 18:11

So, dd was innocently buying her lunch, when a random employee started abusing her and threatening her out of nowhere?
Seems unusual.

Walkerbean16 · 21/07/2018 18:11

but why would they randomly abuse your SD?

I'd be going in and asking to see the CCTV.

TrudeauGirl · 21/07/2018 18:12

How did the conversation or incident start? What was said/done by both of them?

Sammyham88 · 21/07/2018 18:12

Stop drip feeding OP

VladmirsPoutine · 21/07/2018 18:13

There seems to be a chunk the size of China missing from this story Confused

StripySocksAndDocs · 21/07/2018 18:14

Totally unprovoked attack? With an adult threatening and chasing a child ouldn't you have spoken to security or even the police?

mrSteely · 21/07/2018 18:14

My SD knows the shop assistants sister at school.

She was in the shop when the staff member said "is your name XXX" my SD said yes and then the staff member started threatening her, calling her a bitch and shouting at her in the middle of the shop backing my SD into the shelving, My SD walked away and the shop assistant followed her still shouting until they were almost at the customer service desk. The staff member shouted 'yeah thats it walk away you bitch"

My SD barely know the sister of the staff member and cant think of any reason for it happening. Although I cant see how this could be justified by any means. Even if my SD and this staff memebers sister were enemies its no excuse for an adult to verbally bully a child
