Tesco staff member verbally abusing my step daughter

mrSteely · 21/07/2018 18:03

My 13 year-old step-daughter was verbally abused and threatened by a tesco staff member. They even chased her through the store. Tescos then told my step-daughter when she informed the duty manager, that they would have a word with the staff member,

I then spent 4 days calling and emailing to complain, finally getting hold of the store manager 5 days later at 7 in the evening (I had to chase them up on it)

The result of a staff member threatening a child in the store? £15 in tescos coupons and a letter apologising for the alleged abuse (it was caught on CCTV, which I requested but still haven't received, and probably never will)
the staff member is still working in the store and still makes my step-daughter uncomfortable when entering the store.

Do you think I'm being unreasonable in wanting the staff member fired? Considering I really should have involved the police?

And yes, if it happened then the op needs to go to the police and I don't really know why he/she hasn't done this.

Birdsgottafly · 21/07/2018 20:00

An ex ST Helen's Rugby player close to my City has just knocked a Teen unconscious, then when he came round carried on punching him. He could have easily killed him, but he has walked free from Court. He claimed that the Teen was bullying his Son, so don't expect the law to come down on your side, OP.

I would be questioning my Teen more, if there is any bullying going on, from either side, I would want to get to the bottom of it. Just don't make your Teen think that she is untouchable, because in the real world, outside of school, that isn't the case.

Birdsgottafly · 21/07/2018 20:02

""Sorry but bollox, bollox and more bollox. DS worked for Tesco for three years, if this had happened like the OP said it did, absolutely no way would this person still be working here.""

The Tesco by mine is rough. They struggle to keep Staff. This and worse, would get overlooked.

It's appalling what the Security Guard in my local Lidl gets away with, but they also take a lot of shit, as well.

HoleyCoMoley · 21/07/2018 20:09

Was she chased out the store or walked out with someone following her, it all sounds very unpleasant.

Lizzie48 · 21/07/2018 20:22

It's noticeable that there is the automatic assumption on here that the OP's 13 year old DSD must have done something to provoke this. Of course it's possible that there has been bad feeling between her and the shop assistant's younger sister, teenage girls do fall out as we all know. She may even be a bully, we just don't know.

But the shop assistant was totally out of order to threaten her, I would have thought some disciplinary action from Tescos would be appropriate.

yaffingale · 21/07/2018 20:24

Call the police, if she was abused like she said she was then it will be dealt with appropriately. Or it will highlight that your SD has been flexible with the truth, and hopefully think twice next time before fabricating such a story

ElevenSmiles · 21/07/2018 20:27

I think you are very calm, if this had been one of mine Usain Bolt wouldn't have been able to catch me.

crikeycrumbsblimey · 21/07/2018 20:35

@Lizzie48 couldn’t agree more - what a horrible reaction.

People are sometimes shitty to each other without justification, I don’t understand why that is so surprising to some people.

Not acceptable - get the cctv and follow their complaints procedure all the way x

RunMummyRun68 · 21/07/2018 21:05

They won't release the cctv to you!!! Can't believe anyone thinks that is possible

Only the police/insurance companies are allowed access....not the public!!!

RunMummyRun68 · 21/07/2018 21:08

The cctv can show the person requesting it only.... nobody else. You won't see the shop worker

Amanduh · 21/07/2018 21:10

As if.

Notmorewashing · 21/07/2018 21:26

Even if DSD did some something wrong it wouldn’t be on

Honeyroar · 21/07/2018 21:30

Id want to follow this up. No employee should treat a customer this way, whatever has happened. I'm amazed that they did, usually there are other employees or managers around that would have seen or intervened.

But your stepdaughter isn't being honest either. Nobody would know her name/face/react like that without there being a back story.

FatSally · 21/07/2018 21:36

Your head is in the sand op.

Your sd knows exactly why this happened.

TruffleShuffles · 21/07/2018 21:38

I used to work in retail and as someone previously said if what you said had happened then there is no way the member of staff wouldn’t have been sacked.

The management in store would have looked at the cctv already and as they haven’t taken further action on the member of staff then the cctv will not back up your claim.

They would have been suspended immediately and then sacked pending further investigation. Do you think a huge company like Tesco want to risk having a member of staff who apparently goes around randomly carrying out unprovoked attacks?

MipMipMip · 21/07/2018 21:40

The thing the DSD did could be as little as "my bf looked at her". It's entirely possible this happened exactly as stated. The question is what to do now.

Personally I would contact head office and make clear you are not happy with the response. Request the cctv as stated earlier. And if it doesn't work go public.

Good luck.

notanurse2017 · 21/07/2018 21:42

If this has happened as you described, you need to get the police involved. I’m struggling to understand why you haven’t.

ThomasinaMouse · 21/07/2018 21:50

Another one saying you should involve the police with this.

Scrumptiousbears · 21/07/2018 21:51

Massive gaps in this story. Get the police involved. They will deal.

Or not Grin

Honeyroar · 21/07/2018 21:58

Before getting the police involved I'd remind dsd that she will really look silly if her story isn't true and the police wouldn't be impressed.

I'm not saying tell her you don't believe her, but tell her she needs to be certain she's giving all the facts.

Flipertygibbert · 21/07/2018 22:20

I smell shite!!!! Sorry to be so vulgar but what the hell

Flipertygibbert · 21/07/2018 22:25

Unbelievable! This op has led everyone on ot hours for hours band I'm just feeling ....lies, lies for some reason. Aaaaaaahhhhh if so bloody annoying. Curses upon you yaeejit

HoleyCoMoley · 21/07/2018 22:42

Yes I think you are right, Sad

Flipertygibbert · 21/07/2018 22:54
